Oum Ruk - my new lakorn

I've been craving a lakorn for a while. My choice - Oum Ruk, starring the legendary pairing of Ken and Anne.

They play a fashion photographer and a model respectively. They dislike each other intensely but end up in a drunken one-night stand anyway. All well and good, and both would prefer forgetting it ever happened, only she is pregnant! And the story goes from there.




I really loved Ken and Anne's chemistry in Sawan Biang (which was a drama which made me come closest to being OK with the insane 'fall for your rapist' trope many a lakorn seems to love. They just were so dysfunctional, I felt I could almost explain it away. Plus the chemistry and the fact that this was the sole lakorn which actually pointed out this was bad and made heroine put the dude through hell before she decided to trust him again. Not that it made it right or anything but I was almost sold. OK, I can't believe I just typed that - I feel dirty now. Maybe it was just not too bad in comparison to JLR which traumatized me forever and made anything else seem decent in comparison).

And this looks light and fun and rape-free. Plus, Anne is good at playing strong women and Ken is so ridiculously hot.

Thai lakorns can sometimes get crazier than Yu Zheng's craziest dramas. With that said, some of them are quite good. My first lakorn was Kaew Tah Pee, and I loved it! Have you seen Gae Roy Rak? http://www.youtube.com/user/wishboniko#g/c/6DC00627616F54D4. Very cute and surprisingly very funny! Made me fall in love with the RTeam (Rita & Rome), especially with Rita. I thought a talking dog sounded like a bad idea and the girl-pretending-to-be-a-boy plot was so cliche, but it's actually very funny and I ended up loving it.

Yay! Oum Ruk!

I love this lakorn! It has a great mixture of sadness, humor and touching scenes. Ken's character puts up with a lot of crap from the female lead, but his loyalty to her never wavers. His character is very admirable here.

Can't wait to see your journal entries for this drama. It's one of the "better" lakorns out there IMO.

The only thing Oum Ruk and Fated to Love You have in common is the drunken one-night stand pregnancy set-up.

That part is the same, but thankfully heroine is spunky and hero is nice so not like FTLY after all...

I can't believe you typed this too. Sorry I think SB is more insane than JLR. At least the lead hero there had somewhat a reason.

Anyway my fav lakorn remains Bootan Gleep Sudtai which is rape free.

I skipped all the rape bits in SB and only watched second half but I think it worked for me more because heroine actually made him work for it.

I love Oum Rak. You'll laugh and cry with Chen and Napat as they journey through her pregnancy. Napat gets on my nerves sometimes when she gets so unbelievably stubborn but well, we would get a 5 episode larkon if there weren't more conflicts. heeh. And Chen, he's such an adorkable man-child who can't be more different than Kawee in SB and Ken proved his acting chops by nailing both roles. :)
