The trailer is out (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] vierran45) for the upcoming twdrama adaptation of Skip Beat starring Ivy Chen, Choi Siwon and Donghae.

And it's a miracle - I love it! Despite being thoroughly bored by the manga. I liked the concept - strong heroine, the fact that she ends up with a good guy and not the jerk who reforms (which a trope that needs to die), her pursuit of career and excellence etc - but the execution was very lacking. But the drama looks like it kept everything I liked but actually made it work!

How come? The jerk that reforms is more likely to revert back to his old bad ways, but the good guy's always been good. Also, in Skip Beat the other dude, played by Donghae, doesn't ever reform - I think that was the point...

LOL, I meant it's a good thing she ends with a good guy and not a jerk. The trope where girls end up with latter needs to die :p

Yes, totally agree. I hate the whole bad boy who reforms as the guy who ends up with the girl. I actually enjoyed the manga though but I think this drama will be a nice adaptation. TWDramas tend to be surprisingly good about adapting mangas.

oh my word!!! totally agree it actually looks like it translated well =D and the korean-mandarin-korean accented mandarin thing actually was pretty okay, and they look good with the taiwanese actress =)

Wow, looks awesome! Can't wait!!

I wonder what they're doing with the language barriers though... are they going to dub over the Korean, or just keep both languages intact, and rely on subtitles...? If it is the latter, I'm surprised, but pleased. ^_^

Ooh, looks pretty good! I actually love the manga, and twdramas usually do a pretty good job of adapting them. I'll be watching out for this one :-).

I'm in the middle of the anime right now... and it's very hit and miss. I hate the character design of the males (they have jaws so narrow I just can't find that attractive) and the animation is unimpressive for something that has only 26 eps. The plot is quite interesting and surprised me at several points (like when she joins the agency it doesn't magically turn out that she was secretly a great singer or sth like that... but has to use other skills :D). The comedy would be funny but sometimes they really draw out a joke for too long. Probably that's less of a problem in the manga, where her visions and what not are just a few panels long (though I haven't read it, I only suspect it's so).

I hate that trope to bits as well. Good that it doesn't happen here.

I know! I nearly didn't pick up the manga because I thought that it was going to follow that trope. I'm so glad I decided to glance through it anyway!

The pacing can be very, very slow even for me... and I read Kimi Ni Todoke! But I do like that the slow pace is because the story is showing it's work. Kyoko is clearly going to be one of the greatest actors of her generation, but we've seen how this will be achievable so it doesn't seem unreasonable (and a manga trope) that a newbie actress has that ability. The mangaka doesn't shorthand things. It's almost like she's writing a novel instead of a manga.

I can't wait for the live action adaptation! It looks like they've captured the spirit of the manga. I've been wanting to see these characters brought to live for so lone. (I found the anime disappointing. So, I don't even have that.)

I am excited too. I don't think manga was slow paced. It had NO pace :)

The trailer looks better than I thought it would.

I haven't read any of the manga, but the storyline sounds really interesting.

I'm looking forward to the live action a lot more now (that I've seen the trailer).

Let's cross our fingers and hope that the drama gives AN ENDING to this story.

I tried the manga... was intrigued... ended up obsessively reading 20 volumes or so... and then I was so pissed off that I'd lost countless hours reading a story that was going NOWHERE. Sure, it's funny and entertaining, but going round and round and not really advancing the plot gets on my nerves.

Anywaaaaaaaaays... I'm confused they're speaking Korean AND Mandarin in the preview. They'll probably dub the Korean parts when the drama is out.

I am sure they will dub.

Yeah, the story had a snail's pace.
