That line from song in closing credits of ep 4 made me gleeful so there we go.

To nobody's surprise, I am sure, I adored ep 4 to bits!

This episode really brings to bear that even though he can manipulate him, Undaddy cannot really control Yoon Sung, which is a very good thing as Undaddy is a full-blown psycho, with little compunction in offing families and innocent bystanders to get to his target. YS, otoh, has a remarkably sane view that he does not want to kill anyone as part of revenge because once this is over, he wants to live a normal life and if he starts killing, the cycle of vengeance will just go on forever as families of the targets will come after him etcetcetc. I don't know where he learned sanity, it clearly wasn't from Undaddy. Of course, they are clearly setting up a conflict between YS and Undaddy as Undaddy views YS as disposable - look how quickly he found a willing flunkie when YS won't jump. And look how he had no problem ramming YS' car when he got in the way - for YS that scene was much more about testing whether Undaddy cares for him at all, than about seeing his way of justice/saving prisoner dude. Stop testing your ideals and relationships with your body, YS! What are you, main character in Vigilantes in Masks?

If YS continues to go against Undaddy, I won't give much for Undaddy letting him be.

When you add in the fact that YS is bound to learn Undaddy stole him from his mother - eeeek. I adore YS, but he's not the sanest fish in the pond...(I do love that for once, hero has mother issues, not father issues).

You know how I like Secondary Girl in Lie to Me, think it's unreasonable for people to hate her etc etc. Well, clearly my sanity only extends this far because the second we saw her have the most innocuous interaction with YS, I was getting growly. "Back off, b****, YS is Nana's!!" I need help. She can hook up with Commissioner Gordon Sexy Prosecutor.

This was one of my favorite scenes in the ep, and not just because I decided to alterna-ship YS with Sexy Prosecutor (hey, Nana can get in the middle of that sandwich anytime, I am sure!) There are just so many things going on there - YS' trying to process meeting his mother, the whole conversation Sexy Prosecutor has about catching City Hunter with YS overhearing, Nana appearing, oblivious to the undercurrent, with her crush on Sexy Prosecutor for catching bad guys (ahhh, the Batman/Superman dilemma :P), and making YS jealous. The fact that whenever he feels low he always wants her there, with an almost childlike fixation...Just everything. And then of course her scolding him and saying he must be the way he is because of being spoiled rotten by his parents and asking if he talks to his mother as rudely as he does to her, and him snapping that he has no mother, so he has no idea how to talk (he really can't control emotionally opening up around her, can he?) and the lovely, silently comforting scene that follows - she isn't one of those angelic heroines from 1990s kdramas, but she is so sane and kind, and very much what he craves. I love, how during the scene on the overpass, he keeps sneaking looks at her all the time, hastily averting his eyes every time she looks back. Those two are just beyond amazing.

Oh, and little thing that got me for some reason - the way he is nervously picking his nails. He's so controlled a lot of the time, this small unconscious gesture really got me for some reason.

Of course, this all gets spectacularly screwed up - her house is getting foreclosed and he wants to cheer her up (or just to see her because she's in distress and he can't leave her alone) but of course he has no idea how to express himself and it all snowballs and she basically tells him he's a bastard and she never wants to interact with him again and just - I guess telling her "I was brought up by a psycho in the jungle and have no idea how to interact emotionally" might fix things, but also blow his cover. Ohhhh, the insane angsty chemistry btw!!!! My God. If they ever actually make out, I just might combust.

And then this scene is right after, where he follows her, just watching. Oh, who could have thought it would be the action/revenge drama with horrible trailers that would give me one of my favorite love stories of the year?

So yeah, the freeze will take a while to thaw...

So yes, I am beyond obsessed with this drama. It doesn't hurt that whoever shoots this, knows how to shoot LMH to look utterly and incredibly gorgeous.

This was hilarious. both of them bought her a wallet (and of course YS' got rejected, albeit unknowingly because Sexy Prosecutor got there first).

That's OK, YS, saving her life is a better present anyway (if anything proves what a psycho Undaddy is, this scene does - he can't get to his target because of the dark, so why not mow down an innocent bodyguard? WTF!!! Freak!)

Preview promises me this, which please please please should mean they made up. I can't take it otherwise.

Kinda OT: I really wish people would just let go of the whole "it's inferior to the manga/too different/blahblahblah". I have never read the manga and never will because most manga style prior to 2000 does not work for me and the story doesn't sound like my thing. So I just don't care about it. And honestly, by now everyone knows the only thing is has in common with the manga is just the name. Time to let go! If the drama doesn't work for you, just don't watch it. (See me and Best Love or Gumiho Girlfriend). Thankfully, fandom seems to be settling down about this, for a while this was all I could find.

Oh man, THESE TWO. I'm ridiculously obsessed with this drama and this OTP. I keep trying to write a post about it but all that comes out is just bursts of enthusiastic keyboard smashes.

Apart from the shippy scenes, the part where Undaddy nearly ran over YS was definitely my favorite. I just loved the way YS just stood there for a second afterwards. It kinda broke my heart because I do think he honestly thought Undaddy loved him enough to stop.

Yes - you could see YS was hoping...

Undaddy is just awful - it has long ceased being anything proportional and sane. He needs to be put down more than the Council of Five does.

Undaddy is just awful

I don't get how this guy thinks that what he's doing to his partner's son is in any way something he'd have wanted.

Well, he also seems to think it's OK to shoot innocent bystanders, so he's clearly a few fries short of a happy meal.

These two are pretty much my OTP of this k-drama year thus far ♥ The angst is gonna be soooo good, but I still cling on to the slim hope for a happy ending XD;

AHAHAHAH This was exactly my reaction when I was skimming the raws of ep 4. I don't mind the secondary girl in LtM either, but I think that's cos I'm not too invested in the OTP there (though I still think they're very very very pretty together). But YS/Nana? I've been aboard this ship ever since the end of ep 1, so I get defensive quick! XD

As for the comparison to the manga; I personally think if I wanted to know the manga's plot I'd just go and read it. I don't usually like pure manga adaptations, tbh, because nothing can surprise me if I've read it before - and part of the joy of following an airing drama is not being able to predict what's next. I love this series the way it is.

*goes back to finishing up ep 4*

I don't know, maybe I am being a deluded optimist, but I don't get a 'doomed' ending from this so far.

Sometimes I love faithful manga adaptations, but I've certainly enjoyed plenty that only had a passing resemblance to the source (see Sapuri).

If only PMY was Jandi...

coz seeing her & LMH together is such a treat! Finally, a lead lady who actually act & look perfect with LMH!

Oh God, that would have been so awesome. They actually would have had great chemistry and there would have been no mugging.

My addiction to this drama keeps growing: I've started watching the livestream when the drama airs in Korea and I've downloaded the episodes in 720p. I haven't been this addicted since Chuno!

YS, otoh, has a remarkably sane view that he does not want to kill anyone as part of revenge because once this is over, he wants to live a normal life and if he starts killing, the cycle of vengeance will just go on forever as families of the targets will come after him etcetcetc.

This is actually making me fear for YS. He's so rational and sane about this that something *has* to happen to make him kill someone. This is a K-drama after all. I hope I'm wrong and that'll he'll be able to live a happy life with NaNa after all this. I remember reading somewhere that LMH said we should be looking at CH as a kind of prequel for the manga. If it's true, doesn't that mean that it's impossible for him to die at the end of the drama? *clutching at straws* If he stays alive, I do hope NaNa won't be sacrificed instead. I want my OTP of the year to be happy.

Re-secondary girl, I don't know how she's supposed to fit in. She's Sexy Prosecutor's ex, ok. And she also seems to know NaNa. But what can she be to YS? Will he use her in one way or another? A front to protect NaNa from Undaddy or something? At this point of the drama he's already deeply in love with NaNa (without knowing/admitting it). If the writers make him seem truly interested in Vet Girl I'll be seriously pissed off. And she seems to be on the side-lines, her only real connection to the rest of the plot being that she looks after the Blue House's animals apparently. It didn't help that we saw only 2 glimpses of her and that only in eps 3 and 4. We saw much more of The Brat (the president's daughter) who's not supposed to be a main character/love interest. I'm not at all invested/interested in her character so far.

I'm going to go ahead and trust the writers for now because they haven't made a single mistake so far. We'll see how everything plays out.

And I love that for once I'm not only invested in the love story but also in what happens around it: YS and his conflicted retlationship with Undaddy, YS and his mom, The Brat (so funny), the co-workers (again, so funny), even the Council of 5 stuff isn't too pompous and boring, etc...

That is impressive :)

Do you think he'll be forced to kill someone? I wonder. I can see that, but I wonder how that would come to pass? Manipulations by Undaddy? Threats to Nana? I have no idea, but clearly this drama might go a lot darker before it's through (I naively hope not though). I really don't get a 'tragic ending' vibe though - I mean, Dog/Wolf ended well and I never thought it would.

I don't hate vet lady (at least my rational side doesn't) but I have no interest in her and so far she's barely a cameo.

How do you think ahjusshi is connected to Nana? I am wondering if he's the one who caused the accident that killed her mom/put her dad in a coma.

Also, I wonder why Undaddy is only interested in hunting ringleaders and not, e.g. the sniper who carried the orders.

Hmm, I don't know how that would come to pass either. I was thinking maybe blackmail? Or in the heat of action something goes wrong etc...If Undaddy was the one blackmailing him though I think the writers would have YS finding a way to save both Nana and the intended target (a bit like Peter Parker saved both MJ and the people in the cable car in the first Spiderman movie). Easy way out sure, but I don't feel we're supposed to hate Undaddy that much, at least not yet.

I think we can have some satisfying conflict without the "kill" card being laid on the table though. It's just that YS's little speech seemed so reasonable and sane that he's like a sitting duck waiting for bad things to happen to him, poor baby.

I don't get the tragic vibe either but I won't get fooled by a Kdrama ever again. I've seen/heard of too many supposedly not tragic dramas that end pretty badly for the main protagonists. In CH I can almost taste the HEA: the relationship they will have, how they'll behave with their kids etc...so I'll be doubly hit if that doesn't come to pass.

Re-Undaddy, I wonder that as well. Maybe he feels they were just tools and maybe didn't even know they were firing on their own countrymen? They might have been told North Korean soldiers were trying to infiltrate the submarine.

Re-ahjusshi, that was my guess as well: that he's somehow connected to the accident and feels responsible for Nana's happiness. Or maybe he's her real father and she was adopted?

I'm also interested in the Sexy Prosecutor's relationship to Nana. Looks like the lady working with him might be Nana's aunt. Her surname is Kim IIRC. And it also looks like he met Nana at least once before but she doesn't seem to remember.

Can't wait for this week's episodes to find out a bit more about everyone.

Loving your posts on this drama since I feel the same way about everything except the fake dad whom I sympathize with a bit for now. Anyway, how do you make so many screencaps? Do you use a program?

I manually cap through GOMPlayer and then narrow down the caps. If I did auto, it would be too many caps to sort through.

City hunter is awesome. It's like Smallville if it were to tell the story of Bruce Wayne. It's basically a superhero show but without him having superpowers.
