I love how he was progressively freaking out more and more because he couldn't find her - she quit her job, her phone has been disconnected, she doesn't live at home any more, and then stepsis dropped the bombshell and he totally lost it.
Yeah, sure, she's your little sis. Yeah.
Yes, I realize you are all most likely sick of my Gisaeng posts but I am obsessed - when I started yesterday evening with this little marathon, I've only seen 15 eps. Now I am on ep 22. Guuuuuh, so good. I do plan a proper post or dozen but for now it will interfere with my marathonning.
You guys, it is so goooooooooooooooooooooood.
Also, how awesome that it wasn't heartbreak that pushed Saran into becoming a gisaeng, but economic issues + major family trauma. Though heartbreak didn't help (I loved that scene where she asked Damo to buy her a hairpin and walked away, thinking "every time I wear this, I'll remember how despicable men are and won't fall in love." You go!).
But honestly, Saran, WTF - I know your life sucks but a gisaeng = high-priced hooker. WTF? Not to mention, in a conservative society like Korea, no respectable man will ever want to marry you. I am not even talking about aristo families like Damo's, I mean your average white-collar/middle class person. Talk about wrecking your life. Also - entertaining drunk horny men for money? Ugh ugh ugh sick. (Even if sex won't be involved and, let's be realistic, it most likely will be if you work there for over a month or something). Blech.
Ugh, I hate her awful stepparents. I hope when she finds out she's the daughter of that rich family and/or when she marries Damo, she won't give them even a single cent. Ugh. (But I love her awesome stepsis - she should lavish stuff on her).
ETA: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He just broke into the gisaeng house looking for her and is running around like a lunatic, yelling her name. This is going to end well. And by 'well' I mean "this is made by Mousie's id, I swear."

ETA2: And now he's trying to drag her away from there. Oh, for eff's sake, go with him, woman! I know he's been a jerk to you (though not as much as you think) and broke your heart but he's trying to rescue you from what basically amounts to a fancy-theme brothel. I don't care if he was the biggest loser in Seoul, you should still go with him.

I mean, even his insane idea of adopted siblings is STILL better than hookerdom. Hell, even if he offered you to be his mistress (not that he has but a hypo), it would still be better - at least you'd have only one client and nobody has to know so it won't be socially ruinous to the degree being a gisaeng would be. Grr, Saran, have you lost your ever-loving mind?

Date: 2011-04-24 08:17 pm (UTC)Am I sick btw to want Damo to have a total break-down? I mean, he's been teary-eyed and all but I want a real and utter losing it because he's normally so reserved and it would be delicious.

Date: 2011-04-24 12:38 am (UTC)None of the dramas this season interest me at all. I've been craving something very intense and dark like A Love to Kill and What Happened in Bali where people are almost pushed to the brink. But so far, I don't think any of the recent dramas have that. I really don't know if there will be another drama that intense in the future. Kind of disappointing.

Date: 2011-04-24 08:21 pm (UTC)The rest of Gisaeng's storylines I skip entirely but I love Damo and Saran so much I don't mind watching just for them.

Date: 2011-04-24 04:21 am (UTC)But I disagree with your thought on gisaengs. I don't think they're high-end prostitutes b/c the director-lady went apeshit on one girl who met in secret with a client... I really think they just entertain rich ppl. Like if you hired musicians to a party to play for you, only gisaengs are associated with prostitution b/c of its history, even if the modern role is nothing like the past

Date: 2011-04-24 08:13 pm (UTC)Re: gisaengs. Maybe not prostitutes exactly, but like hostesses or bargirls - barely a couple of steps up (better than a stripper but that is about it). I mean, I don't even blame Damo's family for the giant fit they will undoubtedly throe when he tells them who he wants to marry.
Also, Saran may never want to marry, fine. Bu gisaeng is a dead-end career, so what does she plan to do when she's 50? A dancer can teach or run a troupe. A gisaeng, what?
