OK, I just saw this (edited) clip from Rebirth - Next and holy frell!!!! I must have this in my grubby hands now now now now now. (Warning, spoils for the ending of one of the four reincarnation storylines):

From what I can gather they are an OTP but he's the enemy of her country or something, so he's doing this to protect her so she can survive and not be thought in cahoots.

I actually thought of you the whole time I was watching that arc way back when.

IIRC, I liked the past life stories in this series, but ended up not liking the framing story as much, and not caring for the ending.
