Kdrama Central - 49 Days

After 4 eps of 49 Days it's official. I don't care if Han Kang gets together with Ji Hyun in her own body or Ji Hyun in Yi Kyung's body, but get together they must. I ship them more than rabidly.



How are they so wonderful?










I like Jung Il Woo's scheduler, but he's not human enough for me to ship with anyone. Yet, at least.

I don't really get all the bashing of Nam Gyuri. I think she's doing a fine job - I like her character, sympathize with her, etc (and no, no just when she's in Yi Kyung's body, played by Lee Yo Won). Is LYW a better actress? Yes. Does that mean NGR is doing a bad job? Not at all.

Other thing I don't get it people shipping Han Kang with Yi Kyung herself. People are obviously entitled to ship however and whoever they like, I just don't get it, since not only did HK/YK had zero interactions, we know very little of YK or her personality or what she is like - she's been barely seen and even then as a walking zombie. Once we learn more of her, perhaps, but for now it seems odd.

I am trying to figure out which of the rules that Scheduler gave JH will cause danger/get broken:

* She needs three pure tears from three unrelated people. Without those people knowing she is JH who needs them, which is pretty tricky. I mean, I am sure Han Kang's tears, if he cried, would be the pure tears she needs, but why would he suddenly start bawling e.g. on day 45? I wonder who'd provide them, actually. Her scumbag fiance and best friend surely don' qualify. Han Kang is one person. Her other friend? Yi Kyung herself, somehow? Maybe even the Scheduler? Hmmm.

* She can't reveal to anyone who she is, or else that amulet around her neck breaks and she dies. But what if someone figures it out? That would be delicious, her having to deny it. Hmmmm. Who knows if it will happen, but I like contemplating the possibility.

* This is the biggie. Assuming she gets her 3 tears and doesn't die but comes back into her body - will she remember anything of these 49 days wondering as a spirit/in YK's body? I can't see he divine being in charge allowing people to wonder around with detailed knowledge of the afterlife. But then - if she doesn't remember anything, how would it go on? Fine, fiance and best friend would probably be out of the picture due to plot developments prior, but she wouldn't recognize the human version of Scheduler (provided that hint about him becoming human was just that) and all her time with/experience with Han Kang and possibly seeing him differently wouldn't happen. So what then...

Regarding Nam Gyu Ri... well, I made my opinions known in one of your posts :)

About your shipping preferences, I'm wholeheartedly on board with you. I don't get the whole Han Kang-Yi Kyung ship. The two of them have never even interacted before. Of course, this is all susceptible to change as the drama progresses.

I also agree with your thoughts that the Scheduler is a little not human for you to ship him with anyone so until he mysteriously becomes human, any ships that will make me happy are stalling somewhere in the middle of the ocean.

Hopefully, this isn't a spoiler but what do you think about a Min Ho-Ji Hyun ship?

I dislike Min Ho. Tbh, in another, much darker drama, this could be interesting, but seeing her hating him now, unlikely.

I think some of the Nam Gyuri bashing is due to her withdrawal from See Ya. I don't know much about it, but apparently she was a real bitch when she withdrew. Maybe the hatred is carrying on from there to here. Or maybe Nam Gyuri's eyes are so big and her skin is so flawless that everyone's jealous, I dunno, LOL.

I'm mostly concerned with how Ji Hyun's going to collect the tears. Will she just walk up to the person's face and collect it just like that? Or will the tears appear in her necklace magically? So many unanswered questions!

Re: tears. Probably if someone cries a pure tear, it will just appear in her vial - otherwise what is she going to do if someone weeps in the shower?

See Ya was a girl group that sang ballads. They broke up recently, which is a shame because they had a lot of talent. I bet we'll see Nam Gyuri sing somewhere in the drama. Dramas love to capitalize on their actors' vocals.

I think they're hinting that becoming a Scheduler has something to do with not being fated to die, (yay JIW backstory!) so JH may end up as a scheduler, in order to keep her memories - this is all in case she doesn't get the required tears, of course - and has the added benefit of a built-in time skip, so dear to the heart of kdrama writers everywhere.

I wonder at that third point you raised too; the whole point of her developing relationship with Han Kang was that she sees a different side to him (helped by the fact that she has her bastard fiance as comparison). I'm pretty sure they'll come up with some rule for her to get around it if she does get revived, though - look at the Scheduler creating rules out of the blue, LOL.

Re: Yi Kyung/Han Kang, ditto. Firstly, I rather despise Yi Kyung, based on what we've seen so far, so unlike most people I'm not even interested in getting to know her further. Secondly, I don't see Kang ever falling for Yi Kyung fully, because he's clearly after a Ji Hyun-type and he's still hung up over her. The whole reason why he's interested in YK in the first place is because she's exactly like Ji Hyun. Even if these feelings carry over when Yi Kyung's just herself and no longer possessed, it'll never be truly YK who he likes, because his understanding of who she is so far is a lie.

And Nam Gyu Ri's acting is pretty OTT, but it's not so bad that I see the need to constantly refer to it. I've seen worse, and I like her character so much that I can overlook whatever flaws there are.

I really do not get the rabid YK love I see on soompi - the woman was selfish enough to not care her suicide stunt would (a) make someone live with a guilt of killing her and (b) caused a pile-up which fatally injured someone and caused a ton of property damage. She cares so little for everyone except herself - ugh.

And your point about not truly loving YK, so true. Clearly HK likes bubbly extraverts.

That's EXACTLY it. I hate people who're so self-absorbed that they'd allow themselves to wallow in grief and self-pity. Get over it, woman! I know one never truly forgets the death of a love one, but carrying it with you is different from letting it take over your life. Her attempted suicide frankly disgusted me. It's a bit harsh, but as one of the train drivers here said over the announcement at one point, if you want to kill yourself, please resist from throwing yourself off the train and causing the whole of northern Sydney to be held up while they picked up your pieces.

I find it really hard (impossible, really) to love someone who doesn't even love themselves. Both Kang or Scheduler would be totally wasted on YK. She's so depressing that she'd probably make the people around her want to die as well. Oh, and I don't see how Kang and YK would ever match up anyway - zero compatibility, people! Kang is already a stuffy introvert; can you imagine him paired up with depressed, suicidal YK? She'd have to do a personality 180 for it to ever work.

And yes, she'd be such a drain. Ugh.
