In which I go rabid for 49 Days
Mar. 31st, 2011 11:50 pm
With ep 2, my liking for 49 Days turned into a full-blown obsession. It's whimsical and unpredictable and funny and a bit sad. It's perfect. So far, this writer is three-for-three in creating dramas I adore.
You know another thing I adore? Han Kang. I have such a mad crush on him, it's not even funny. He's - ah - he's - now I am going to gibber like a fangirl. I really really want him to get Ji Hyun. He's kind and a little odd and he genuinely loves her, unlike her scumbag fiance. The scene where he was banging his head on the bar because he woke up dreaming of her, made me into mush.

Plus, he's wicked hot.

And now Ji Hyun (in Yu Kyung's body) is going to work for him. How much did I love that he hired her because of her mannerisms, which were (of course) exactly like Ji Hyun's.

Oh, please please please let them end up together. I don't want him with the real Yu Kyung, I don't want Ji Hyun with the Scheduler (awesome as he is) or anyone else. I want them as an OTP so badly. Pleaaaaase, writer, please.
So, poll

Date: 2011-04-01 04:17 am (UTC)and certainly don't be so selfish as to walk into traffic to make some innocent person live with the guilt of accidentally killing you for the rest of his life
This, to me, makes her completely unsympathetic and not very likable. She actually partly caused the accident that put JH in a coma, as well. I can't take YK has one of the main characters, that I'm meant to root for. As of now (or rather ep 6), I still don't like her.

Date: 2011-04-01 04:19 am (UTC)I don't even blame her for the suicide impulse that much because fine, impulse. But afterwards - she didn't wonder about the driver or the multiple car pile-up or whether anyone got hurt. That is beyond self-absorbed. Ugh.

Date: 2011-04-01 05:01 am (UTC)I agree. I also didn't like that she was willing, as you said, to leave someone with guilt. Having an impulse to commit suicide is fine. But, walking in front of a car - I hate when characters do that - is beyond selfish. You're leaving the driver with guilt and possibly even jail time. And, she doesn't seem to care or wonder about any of it: the driver, the people who were in the pileup, anything. It makes her seem self-absorbed and even slightly cruel. Like, she's a zombie, but no one else is important either. I've seen K-drama characters who were like zombies and suicidal, but they still cared. She doesn't. She's just walking around.

Date: 2011-04-01 06:38 am (UTC)and i think it's going to be hk/jh: From some of the discussion i read from dramabeans apparently in korean jihyun's mom referred to her as their 'remaining child', which seems to suggest that they had lost another child, and given that jihyun doesn't seem to be aware of this, or at least hasn't let on/made a fuss at all which would be unusual for a kdrama, some of the readers there were saying that it was probably a separated-at-birth thing. They were arguing for the lost sibling to be YK, because she also had a whistle with her (and that could also explain jh's need to have her whistle with her, cos if YK was lost before her parents could have impressed it upon JH to keep a whistle for safety reasons), and because the scheduler started scheduling (lol) apparently only five years ago.
I.e. the relation that the scheduler is likely to have would likely be with YK. Someone also mentioned that YK grew up in an orphanage (although I don't recall this), so perhaps the scheduler was like her brother/boyfriend/best friend from her orphanage?

Date: 2011-04-01 07:55 am (UTC)Btw. where are you with Gisaeng? Surprisingly I'm now up to date with it and it's actually getting better! *is baffled* So many dramas recently have gone the opposite way.

Date: 2011-04-02 08:18 am (UTC)I don't know if you are interested but Zealioner writes great recaps of Gisaeng with interesting insights into Damo and Damo/Saran. Her follow-up posts are especially worth a while. In case you feel like checking out the latest episodes without actually having to watch them.

Date: 2011-04-02 07:57 am (UTC)I want Lee Yo Won as Ji Hyun with all the boys. Han Kang and the Scheduler. Teehee. Actually, if I really had to choose, I want Lee Yo Won/Yi Kyung as Ji Hyun with Han Kang and the Scheduler with Yi Kyung's spirit in their hood.
