Seriously, just how many hot men are in Three Kingdoms? According to this drama, it was a requirement back then to be hot in order to be involved in politics.

Not that I am complaining because that means that even though my beloved Lu Bu is dead, I still have plenty of eye candy to look at, in between the politics and battles and backstabbing. I might as well be compensated because with Diaochan's death, there is currently zero female characters with speaking roles. No wonder this drama has a legion of slashers.

You're trying to tempt me to watch this, aren't you?

According to this drama, it was a requirement back then to be hot in order to be involved in politics.

Say, why don't they have this rule in place these days? We should be developing forwards, not backwards. I'd pay a lot more attention to who I'm voting for during elections if the candidates were hot!

...I'M IN.

You know, despite my love for... well, hot men, dramas that are so male-oriented don't usually manage to keep my interest because one of my main requirements = a good OTP. But I think I will make an exception here. >D

Well, so far they had one OTP only but it was pretty epic.

Lu Bu/Diao Chan?

I'm not going to consider them an OTP or get emotionally invested in them for my own sanity. :P I still remember going "NOOO" back when I read Romance of the Three Kingdoms and they met their rather nasty end.

LOL. I knew the ending too and I still managed to get invested to the detriment of my vocal chords and tear ducts.

OTOH, it's fun to watch them get there.

The fact that Peter Ho played Lu Bu doesn't help. He's one of those actors that I used to think is butt ugly, but once I see them in motion/in a good role, I'm like HOTTTT forever after.

True, I didn't get the thing about him at all and then I saw him in a drama and was goooone.

That did a pretty good job of killing my interest in trying this again.

Well, later they do have more interesting and powerful women appear but yes, this drama is prett thin on female characters - unsurprising, seeing that it's based on Chinese equivalent of a medieval chronicle (and apparently, the drama version beefed up female presense and roles, as compared to the original, as is). So yeah, probably not your thing.

Hmm, Emperor Xian is quite hot indeed, when he's not all weeping because he's being bullied by The Man Cao Cao. (And no because he's not a swordsman he doesn't count. :P )

How far are you now?

I am laughing imagining emp Xian as a hippie.

I am only on ep 20. I got sidetracked by Schemes of a Beauty which isn't even (a) a good drama (b) a drama I particularly enjoy. I am not sure why I am even watching it ahead of anything else except for the fact that the streaming site that has it is really flaky with links and I am trying to get through it before they die again. I spend most of the drama irritated though.

Zhao Yun wins my vote as the prettiest :-D Sooooo pretty :-D In one episode I just finished editing (36? 37? 38?) his prettiness shines. Lady Wu and I were even talking about it. Pretty. (hee)

Zhou Yu is pretty here, but then they decide to give him facial hair. I'm firmly in the "facial hair on Chinese men who aren't super old and therefore have a long white beard they can stroke is horrible" camp.

After editing 4 episodes in a row very early on with whiny Emperor dude, yeah, I can't see the hotness. I just want to stab him.

I find facial hair unappealing on men of any ethnicity so yeah, I am out of luck here.

@ji_xiang: Ep 36 is the Zhao Yun shrine (and that's where dangermousie's Zhao Yun picture is from). I just watched it again yesterday and omg. It's a Zhao Yun fangirl's dream come true.

I think Zhou Yu with 'stache is somewhat tolerable (though he does lose a few points because of it):

@mousie: Ep 20! The infamous toilet ep! Apparently the actor for Emp. Xian is in SoaB as well. The first 30 eps are basically a huge Cao Cao love-fest. With some Lu Bu/Diaochan thrown in.

I am all for Cao Cao love fest. And Zhou Yu doesn't look bad with a mustache at all.

I still think "porn-stache" :-( In editing 39 right now, and it's just like, right there in front of me and I want to rip it off.

Also, hee, watching Yang Warriors, eh? Now I know why you don't mind me taking so long on the editing :-p

I put Young Yang Warriors on hold now until I can afford the DVD set. I do intend to bite my lip and plough through to the bitter end eventually. I wasn't pushing for episodes to QC mostly because I can't stand Zhuge Liang...

But keep them coming. The sooner we get rid of the Red Cliff episodes the sooner we get to delicious Wu action.

39 up and I'll finish 40 tomorrow or Tuesday.

Hm... did you want me to ask my dad to get the DVD set in China? It's so cheap there and we can ship it to you.

Maybe I just want to find more things for him to buy for me - I'm annoyed he's been making us run around for him before he leaves ;)

hehehe! I would have been all over it as some glue, but unfortunately I can't watch those files on TV. Lots of yummy men. It is unfortunate that they don'y have any ladies, though - I am sure that there must have been some interesting ladies in that period too!

They beefed up the women's roles a lot as is (it is based on a medieval work) but this seems pretty much a man's world - women are supposed to be not seen and not heard :(

I use a $60 Western Digital media player with a USB stick/external hard drive and watch 3 Kingdoms on my 46" LCD. Just wanted to point out that it's totally possible :-D (And the Jianghu vid quality is great! Not to sell our group anymore, of course :-D)

Yes! I know I can get one of those! But 60 pounds! ** whines ** My Hi-Def TV shows .avi files just fine; and some of .mp4 files are fine as well (I watched Nnagareboshi and Moon Lovers in mp4 format on TV), but Three Kingdoms has no sound. However, I had this problem before with some of .mp4 anime files and when I investigated the issue it appears that my TV (LG) does not support some of .mp4 formats. I normally try to find everything in .avi format which seems to be supported by the majority of current TV . :D

PS: BTW, from what I have seen on my PC, the files are indeed excellent quality with wonderful subs!!!!!

Awww, that sucks.

Yeah, I can't watch anything on my computer, and for awhile my dvd player (which has a USB port) was playing .avi files okay, but the .mp4 ones were no go. It sucks that the 3 Kingdom .mp4 files won't play :-/ Unfortunately, we're limited in what we release (I think) by what source files we can obtain (can you tell I don't do the encoding? :-))

I know! I must say - I want to watch "Three kingdoms" so much that I am seriously thinking about getting a media player for the TV. My computer (I use zplayer) will play anything and everything, but the screen is not as big as I would like it to be.
