Because that's who Consort De wants and I hate her hate her hate her haaaaaate her.

I hope she gets to live just long enough to see Four become emperor instead of her precious Fourteen and learn that all her evilness and scheming was for naught. Bwaahahahahha! And then die a hideous death. Too bad Four is just fratricidal instead of matricidal. Ish, kick up your game a notch, Four!
Honestly, she and Xiao Chun are the only characters in this I truly hate. I am not fond of awful awful Kang Xi but at least he amuses me and the same is true for Concubine Xi. And Su Yan goes psycho but I sort of feel sorry for her. But these two are just a waste of space. Even someone as ambitious and ruthless as Concubine Xi has the decency not to hide her nature.
I won't put anything past Concubine De. For all I know, she actually manipulated Four's upbringing so he'd grow up to be ruthless and screwed-up so she could further her plan. She's capable of it.
Anyway, I have to get up in four hours and be incommunicado for most of the day tomorrow, so good night.

At least whenever Four does bad things, he feels bad and is remarkably clear-eyed about the morals of what he's doing. And he doesn't really really lead those close to him on (come on, the stuff with SY - only someone as willfully self-deluding as she is would see it as anything but goal-oriented shpiel). But she just puts on that act for everyone, herself included.
It's gotten so bad that every time she opens her mouth, I just literally start yelling at my screen "shut up shut up shut up". When she had the nerve to tell Four she doesn't want him to be emperor because it's such a heavy job and tries to do a "mommy love you" manip, I think I might have damaged my keyboard.
Yup, I used to think she was so sweet and good. Hah!

I realized that she favored 14 more than 4, but didn't realize that she was so manipulative since she's always so saint-like ^^;;
