You know JPLH the movie sequel to JPLH the drama?

Apparently Yu Zheng has lost his marbles entirely and cast Ming Dao as the main male role. Ming Dao. As the main male role. Anyone remember Ming Dao in the drama? I didn't think so.

No, he is not playing Eight as FSF is still in this but had his role drastically reduced (no idea why and, honestly, don't care why, just care about the outcome). Ming Dao, who is hands down my least favorite tw/cdrama actor and this close to making it on my "won't watch if he's in it no matter what else is going on" list, is playing an 18th century general (replacing the drama actor who played Xiao Chun who became that general).

Bwahahahaha.

Oh no you didn't. FengMi were JPLH's biggest selling point and you just threw it away. Are you sure you thought this through?

The plot of the movie sounded iffy from the get-go (something about Eight not hacking it in the modern world, disappearing, QC tracking him down and finding the source of Eight and Four's 'eternal battle' (wtf - I don't think she needed to look for anything special - they bth want the throne and the girl, not that complex)) but I was still going to watch this for FSF/Yang Mi's chemistry.

Instead, this is going to have barely any scenes with them, throw in love rivals who get the lion's share of the screen-time (honestly, by the end, haven't QC/Eight moved past any stage where a love rival is even feasible?), and possibly screw the ship over and "compensate" me by making me look at Ming Dao for two hours straight, a Ming Dao who might be making out with Yang Mi for all I know?

That's like the perfect anti-movie for me. No thanks. It's not as if JPLH has an open ending so I need to see the movie.

Clearly, JPLH joins the long list of dramas I adored that ended up having second seasons or sequel movies I wouldn't touch with a ten-foot pole - Meteor Garden 2, Black and White movie, IRIS the movie (and Athena). The sole time a drama I loved had a sequel I adored was Hana Yori Dango s2.

Buh-bye, movie. There's still two dramas they are doing together to compensate me, so I am not feeling too bad.

Just edited my post because I found some new articles. Go check it out, apparently Qing Chuan might not even be Qing Chuan anymore, LOLOL. At first I was disappointed, but now it's just amusing. It's like watching a trainwreck.

Just read. Lololol. Clearly Meteor Garden 2 laurels do not give YZ any peace.

On the plus side, that means QC/Eight are going to be left alone so that's good.

Also, why does Ming Dao get to get a QC lookalike? Shouldn't Four have first dibs?

From: [identity profile] hanjae.livejournal.com
Definitely, at this point I would actually prefer it if the story's about someone new and not QC. That way Eight won't be saddened, because a sad Eight = heartbreak for me.

LOL interesting you should say that. Historically Nian Geng Yao and Yongzheng were the best of buds but then had a falling out for one reason or another. I bet they were just fighting over QC lookalike, and Four couldn't take being rejected by QC for a second time.

Well, I don't blame Four - that's the third QC/QC-lookalike he didn't get. Bound to make a man a bit testy.

Also, honestly, Eight/QC story is done. Not to say you couldn't make a movie with stuff but it's not necessary. And nobody will convince me that after all the hell they went through and how much he places being with her above everything, that modern world would cause a rift enough to become an issue. Especially, as you put it, her business is conveniently antiquing so he could be super-useful and not just sit around all day.

Date: 2011-03-23 02:27 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hanjae.livejournal.com
OH YEAH. It's the third, eh? I totally forgot about Hua Ying/evil QC. Actually, it's too bad for him that Hua Ying didn't find him her cup of tea either, because they could've totally matched; her evil scheming brain + his evil scheming brain, coupled with their combined ambitions to become Emperor/Empress. If Four had Hua Ying instead of Su Yan and his useless flea-brained wife, he probably would've ascended the throne in half the time and the drama would only be about 20 episodes instead of 39.

Which is why the idea of introducing a female love rival is also ridiculous. Remember the lolarious way he bitchslapped QC's evil maid frenemy out of the way? He also sensed right away that Hua Ying wasn't the real QC, so obviously the guy's got QC on the brain and he's just not interested. Sif freaking out about technology/inability to adjust would cause him to hightail it out of there; he's only (almost) sacrificed his life for her a dozen times.

Yeah, I can just see that "sorry, honey, I know I willingly almost died for you repeatedly, including stabbing self, but this place has computers and electricity so ciao!" Yeah. Reminds me of the whole Buffy/Angel thing where their lovew apparently could survive hell but not a 2-hr drive to LA :)

Evil QC would have been a perfect match for Four. She so should have gone for him.

Oh, and a love rival for Eight's affections? As if. Even in MG2 they had the decency to give DMS amnesia first.

I am glad the story is now so changed as not to involve 8/QC at all - I have no interest in new story but at least it leaves the otp alone.

Ugh, don't even remind me of Buffy/Angel. It was an obvious case of "oh god we have another season and I've run out of ways to make this pairing interesting... OH I KNOW, let's scrap them and do something else!"

LOL you never know, perhaps he gets electrified while attempting to make QC breakfast in bed or something, and... you know it, amnesia! I wouldn't put it past Mr. Copycat YZ to do it, actually. He's only lifted the rest of Hanadan so far. Baffles me why he'd cast Ming Dao as Nian Geng Yao, though. Wouldn't it at least make more sense to make him Lin Fei Fan i.e. Rejected Fiancé? Then this movie could be Lin Fei Fan Strikes Back.

I used to be a big B/A shipper back then so yeah...

Baffles me why he'd cast Ming Dao as Nian Geng Yao, though.

Probably because if he set it in modern day, he couldn't have cool costumes.

I am so staying away from this trainwreck.

Ming Dao!? him!? Ewwwwwwww! I have hated him in everything i've ever seen him in! The only thing that was mildly bearable was The Magicians of Love, but that's only cos I was just agog with everything else going on in that drama that he kinda faded into the background for me.

I thought the sequel was going to be more Eight/QC, only in the modern world!

Yep, Yu Zheng is officially nuts. Or he's been paid a crazy amount of money to do this. The only thing I can do is laugh, laugh and laugh somemore! Like you said, it's not as if JPLH really needs a sequel, I thought the ending was fine as it is.

Ah, yes, The Magicians of Love - the most insane drama I've ever seen. The manly mobster hairdressers. LOL.

I am just washing my hands of this.

This is a horrible piece of news.

Right after the happiness last night.
=.=

MING DAO.

Do you mean the Ming Dao from taiwan?

GOSH. I used to like him, but even that is not going to make me watch the movie if it turns out that way. No thanks, my 8QC can have their happy ending from the drama.

Nian Geng Yao (the imposter) will never never never fit my view of a lead.

He's scheming, making use of Qing Chuan to get his revenge on the 8th Prince. Even though he never harmed her, the plan itself was devious enough.

He's lustful. Although he got 'raped' by Concubine Xi, he gradually fell into the sexual relationship and was just enjoying each meeting! And he dared to speak of his love for Qing Chuan right after he got ditched by Concubine Xi!!!

He's greedy for power. He helped the 4th Prince to (try) usurp the throne, on many occasions!

I can't stand him. Weakling. Even Concubine Xi made me feel some pity for her...

Well, look on the bright side - FSF just got cast in that modern drama as Yang Mi's leading man. So we traded in a movie for a drama? Not a bad deal.

I need to stop getting my hopes up about second seasons, SPs, and movies. Because, beyond the second season of HYD they are ALWAYS a disappointment.

Yes, I don't get his popularity at all.

Sigh.. You'd think they'd understand there's a reason this drama works, and that you shouldn't mess with that. (I don't know the ratings or anything but it seems pretty popular)

Date: 2011-03-24 01:06 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
It was a huge hit - being n1 in ratings for the entire 3 weeks it ran.

And yeah, the couple were the main draw. Apparently FSF just got cast as the male lead in a drama that long had Yang Mi attached to it because the fans flooded the station with emails, letters etc begging for it.

So to not capitalize on their current popularity in the movie seems kinda insane.

Ming Dao is one of the most unattractive actors I've ever seen. I don't understand his popularity at all. There are a lot of actors who I don't find attractive but I could still see why others might but him? NOPE.

Yes. This. He's not good-looking but neither is e.g. Kim Gab Soo, but I can see the appeal with the latter. With Ming Dao there is no charisma or sex appeal or acting chops to compensate.
