1. Have some angsty Playboy from Four Women Conflict.

I have a thing for tear wiping:

Playboy declaring he killed Lanyan's husband.

In jail, telling her he won't live without her.

Pretty pretty pretty:

OTP!

He's been made to believe she died (she needs to pretend to be dead to catch whoever is trying to kill her - i.e. puppy killer). Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh.

He sort of is going photogenically insane and telling her he will marry her even though she's a corpse and that he's now just a body without a soul etc. These pics seem very relevant to the "crying men - hot, wussy, or lickable" poll question. Your verdict?

At her tomb. Puppy Killer is all "but whyyyyy don't you love me? She's dead." Seriously, someone buy this lady a clue.

2. [livejournal.com profile] ockoala just informed me that FSF and Yang Mi are going to play the OTP of contemporary cdrama Destiny's Concerto. Normally, modern-day cdramas are rarely my thing but I am going to give it a try just for them. Together with JPLH, its movie sequel and Legend of Tiger Amulet, that's four times they have been paired in one year (!!!!). I've seen some griping on spcnet about it (why?) but I am doing an ecstatic jig because they sort of my became my favorite drama pairing and I am so very happy to see them together again.

3. I wasn't particularly interested in Schemes of Beauty before but it's made by the same guy who made FWC and JPLH, it has FSF and Yang Mi (not as an OTP, but that is even more fun. Yang Mi's OTP in this is Four, a.k.a. Mikey He, and FSF's otp is Myolie Wu). Must check this out now - I believe viki has it. Have these two MVs for the two OTPs

Yang Mi/Mikey (thanks for finding it, [livejournal.com profile] hanjae:

FSF/Myolie:

4. And speaking of Yang Mi/Mikey He - I am on ep 16 of JPLH and I do believe Four might be developing feelings for our intrepid heroine. How do I know? Well, he hesitates to slit her throat while she's lying there unconscious after having taken a sword stab to save his life. He decides not to kill her (on the off chance she's somehow implicated in something against him - hello, paranoia!) despite being really tempted.

Now we know that with Four this is as good as shouting from the rooftops that it's LOVE!

5. Thanks for the heads-up, [livejournal.com profile] hanjae. Trailer for FSF/Yang Mi Warring States awesomesauce collab Legend of Tiger Amulet is out:

I want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After being brainwashed by the adorable Eight in Gong, I keep forgetting how much cuter FSF can be with HAIR. And I pronounce his crying self in FWC v. v. lickable. That scene in the rain is just yum, and he actually has hair to keep some of it out of his eyes unlike in Gong where it was just running straight down, LOL.

The temporary Four/QC mush is a bit tedious, but I loved it once Four really fell for QC and she kicks him to the curb when she finds out from Su Yan that he tried to have her killed, several times. After getting shafted repeatedly, he ends up trying to work himself to death to forget her, and his delusional wife is all, "OMG I HATE THAT BITCH IT'S ALL HER FAULT" and sends 13th to do something about it. It's awesome fun.

I'm looking forward to Hu Fu Chuan Qi despite how depressing it looks; I mean, Yang Mi's character ends up marrying FSF's brother or something. And Spcnet (and a lot of English fandom, actually) gripes about anything Gong-related anyway; it's mainly the Yu Zheng hate that's spreading over to FengMi.

Date: 2011-03-22 04:54 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ockoala.livejournal.com
That's silly. Yu Zheng is the worst sort of hack - not an original bone in his body and shameless to boot about borrowing liberally for all his screenplays from a variety of sources. But to hate on FengMi makes no sense.

Ppl can boycott Gong on princple (also kinda silly - I watched it and didn't like it), but to transfer the dislike to the lead actors starts to feel cultish.

It's like hating on Twlight cuz Stephanie Meyer is a hack writer but then transferring the haterate on Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart for playing the characters.

And yet I've seen plenty of people do just that. Seems universal behavior.

From: [identity profile] hanjae.livejournal.com
It is, isn't it? FSF seems to have escaped more or less unscathed; it's Yang Mi who seems to have taken the brunt of it. People have gone from, "Oh, I like her/want to see more of her!" to "I cannot stand how she's shot to stardom like this! I'm sick of her!" It's a bit baffling, really.

I completely agree that Yu Zheng's a shameless copycat and totally egotistic, but I'm kind of wishing people got over it now. The way people on forums are harping on about the matter and not being able to even talk about Gong without adding some sort of disclaimer about how they hate Yu Zheng is getting ridiculous. Gong is definitely not everyone's thing - it's far from unique, is far from a critical masterpiece and if you like your history accurate you'll probably have hysterics - but really, it's a drama. If people don't enjoy it, that's fine, but repeating it all the time like it's some sort of shield = silly.

LOL at Twilight example. Nothing truer has ever been spoken.

This is going to sound bizarre but I prefer the Qing hairstyle to the FWC one. I think because I have an unhealthy crush on Eight. Either that or I've just gone blind.

So, have you been tempted to check out FWC? Such trashy goodness.

I don't mind 4/QC mush because I just know he's digging his own grave. His wife is insane btw.

Re: HFCQ looks depressing but then Warring States things always are. Or maybe I am just thinking of Three Kingdoms.

Spcnet hates Gong which is their prerogative but I adore it and FengMi to bits.

That's two completely different time periods. The Warring States is during 770-221 BC, while the Three Kingdoms is during 220-280 AD. But both periods are tormented by political unrest, massive amounts of scheming and backstabbing, so you're bound to have a load of tragic tales.

Usually I'd say you're too far gone for help if you can find the Qing style attractive (and this is from someone who grew up watching these dramas :P), but since it's Eight, it's an exception. I didn't think it was possible to adore a drama guy so much before Eight and Jae Shin in SKKS.

Your caps have been tempting me for ages! I think I might wait for Royal Harem to come out before I decide whether to try FWC though; that way I can delude myself into thinking the characters in FWC didn't totally end tragically - they just moved onto Royal Harem! /delusional thoughts

Four's wife is truly insane, yes. I keep hoping he'd stab her or something, or at least deliver an epic smackdown - seriously, he's willing to kill anyone else, I'm sure he can spare time for one more.

HFCQ = Warring States. And as for part of fandom's dislike for Gong, I can understand it as differing tastes, but I really do not care because I LOVE it. :P It might be recycled plot, but it's recycled plot executed right, and has all the elements that I like (for an example of a similar plot executed badly, see BOF). Whatever you can say about YZ, the guy has good taste in his material for "inspiration"? LOL. And he's given us FengMi, so I'd have to temper my dislike. Though his on-going love affair with Mickey He is really...

Some Destiny's Concerto news - hasn't started filming yet.

Modern C-drama, FSF plays two roles - dead first boyfriend of YM and future chaebol true love of YM. YM plays a Candy-esque heroine who goes to prison because of her evil sister's machinations, but after she gets out she manages to become a successful fashion designer.

Honestly, typical C-drama modern tripe. But at least FSF-YM have chemistry, which is always a plus.

That plot sounds very very kdramaish, circa 2002 or so. LOL. No wonder they remade Autumn Concerto, fits right in.

Sounds like it could be either entertainingly melo (love my OTT makjang) or angstily dreary. Hoping for the former.

Never really liked FSF too much, even though he's pretty good looking. Personally, his acting (or his characters so far) have all been over the top for me. He has immense screen presence, but I think he needs to learn how to control it to befit different characters.

Schemes of Beauty was pretty good most of the time (I FFed through a lot though...), sometimes veering to the cheesy side. Ruby Lin did a solid job as the lead, and her OTP to me was like warmed soymilk, a little bit on the plain side, but heartwarming and soothing. I feel like Schemes of Beauty is one of Yu Zheng's better dramas, with definitely better production value. (Sorry, never been a fan of JPLH. It belongs in the pile of over the top, overly commercialized, and dreadfully unoriginal Chinese dramas for me.)

As for the Legend of the Tiger Amulet, man, that's a solid solid supporting cast (I had no interest in the drama before the trailer. Now I'm a bit excited b/c of the supporting cast). FSF and YM are two lucky people. A lot of actors/actresses from one of my favorite Chinese dramas The Great Gate (大宅门) are in this.

Oh, I forgot to mention this. Yang Mi plays a killer spy in Schemes of Beauty, who rubs the equally kung-fu savvy general Mickey Hu the wrong ways. Great chemistry between the two, but the story dragged for a bit towards the end. Tragic ending (spoiler?) though...as to be expected from the star-crossed pairing.

FSF's OTP was really cute. For once I felt his acting fit his character here (really OTT, veering into obnoxious), and his OTP is a fish-selling poor girl with an attitude. Very cute and happily ever after. A bit on the short side though.

Never heard of Yu zheng before watching schemes of beauty. I like the drama as I thoughts is different from other palace scheme drama. I often heard in spcnet how he is a copycat. I agree to that but got to give yu zheng a credit. In each of his dramas, the clothes and scenery is so beautiful that i got entrance by it.
Yang MI and mikey he in scheme in beauty have great chemistry together, therefore i kind of disappoint that they didn't get to pair up in gong. Through i read spcnet bash on gong, they do say that the only good thing about gong is yang me and fsf.

I have tried to get my hands on Schemes of a Beauty but i cant find them anyway, and i refuse to buy DVDs just for FSF and Myolie Wu!

As for the above discussion on Yu Zheng, I really don't give two hoots about the copying. For me, i feel that if you've watched enough dramas, sooner or later, you'll come to the realisation that a lot of stuff is recycled anyway. what's more important to me is how it's handled by the director, the actors, and whether or not it is relevant to the story being told. And anyway, as i've seen quite a few YZ dramas now, i'm actually more bothered about his view on women and relationships than his copying.

As for rabid fandom, lol, i will admit that i spent most of last weekend trawling though the spcnet forums, in particular the Qing Shi Huang Fei. Iljimae and, ahem, the Wallace Huo threads. And it is crazy how some fans or anti-fans for that matter think. In Ruby Lin's QSHF, the level of love and hate is scary, although amusing! Lol, i can't for the life of me understand why she's picked Wallace Huo and then proceeded to make him look like some overgrown mountain gorilla! Lol, i suppose i'll have a look at the Gong threads for entertainment now!

Really? Are you after the raws? Because there are links everywhere, let me know if you need them. :O

And so true about how many dramas recycle plot. Honestly, the Hanadan setup's formed the basis of 90% of Asian romcoms; poor & spunky girl catches the attention of rich & spoilt jerk with a marshmallow center, who teases her and ends up falling for her. Kdrama romcoms are still using this theme. It's just that they were less obvious about the Hanadan imitation and because some people jumped into Gong already expecting YZ to copy something, that it became such a big deal.

LOL I've been surprised at the Ruby hate, actually. I'm still wonder what she's actually done to warrant it? I mean, she's used her personal connections to build a cast of hot guys! Nothing to complain about. Evil Yan Kuan's actually looking a lot more attractive than Wallace though, from the stills of QSHF that I've seen. Wallace needs to put his foot down and refuse to wear anymore dead animals around his shoulders.

Date: 2011-03-22 02:35 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kitkat-cat.livejournal.com
ooo, can u give me directions to raws?

as for the ruby hate, i think it's precisely because she's used her connections, to build a cast of attractive men around her. but surely there's nothing wrong with that! it's her first time being a producer, she's got a lot riding on this, and if it means ensuring that she's built a cast of attractive men around her to try to get audience figures, then what is wrong with it? i think fan-girls automatically assume that it's her being narcissistic! but seriously, if i was personal friends with wallace huo, i would definitely call in this favour, which is what she's rumoured to have done.

Re: copying. Yes. Original dramas of any stripe are far and few between. Most kdrama romcoms begin to all blend into into one another for me. Doesn't mean I still don't enjoy a well-made one.

I never got a hoot about copying in any format (ooooh, now I am flashing back to Cassandra Clare debacle in Harry Potter fandom ages ago). All I want is for the story to entertain me.

LOL omg Cassandra Clare debacle. You can't even mention her name without huge wankery erupting, with elitists repeating the "Plagiarism is BAD!" mantra and lecturing the mere mortals on Clare's crimes. And then everyone will proceed to post and say how much they agree with it, Clare is a total hack and should be boycotted and cursed for the rest of her lifetime, etc.

i will admit that my interest in the drama was at its peak when it was rumoured that Yuan Hong would be in it. HAHA I love you for the great pieceS of news!

Another Feng Shao x Yang Mi drama!!!!!!!! I cannot wait! I'm glad that the tv station is making full use of their popularity right now (because I think the pairing won't last too long, given how fickle tv audience are).

And that MV of the Tiger Amulet...It looks quite a serious drama, but Yang Mi looks so gorgeous inside, I'm really tempted. XP I love Gong, but I really want to see them pair up in a serious, 'I'll love you till death' kind of drama.

Oh, wait till you watch ep 19/20 of Gong. That was the time the Fourth really got to me. <3
