I have just discovered that

a. Ady An and Feng Shao Feng starred in a drama together as an OTP
b. It is a period drama set at the turn of 20th century
c. With looooooooots of angst and dramatics and makjang craziness - evil cowives! (only in a period cdrama - it's my biggest hurdle to checking this out, though I have much less problem with it in purely period context than when a modern person travels back into the past and decides to follow that sort of thing a la A Step Into the Past. I may get over it because supposedly he only loves Ady. We'll see), OTP interlopers! attempted murders! scary hairpieces!
d. He's hired to seduce her but falls for her and misery and make-outs follow
e. THERE ARE SUBS

If you know me, this is sort of like a fanfic-type dream come true. (Even cooler than my discovery that Ady played Peter Ho's OTP in a period drama which also starred Blue Lan and which has subs - someone is saving her pennies).

It's called Four Women Conflict and here is a pretty dramatic MV:

Here is another, which is a little less dramatic but still impossibly pretty:

There are both official dvds and youtube-subbed (I think) links available.

I sense an obsession about to start. If I ever finish the rest of my insane backlog that is.

In news of other potentially interesting dramas, I never realized that Vincent Jiao was one of the two protagonists in Wind and Cloud 2. I have a big crush on him. Hmmmm (it also stars Peter Ho, my current obsession, but his haircut in that one is scary so that detracts. Yes, am very shallow).

Hi mousie, I have been a silent reader of your blog for soem time.

Anyway, 4 women conflict is produced and written by Yu Zheng, who was also behind the production of (guess?)

Jade Palace Lock Heart. :)

Actually, this series made me from dislike turn to hate Yu Zheng. It's widely known that he like plagiarism (hence his nickname Copycat Yu), but to actually copy dialogue to dialogue, scene to scene AND claim as his original work is just >_<

He does better at novel adaptation like Beauty Scheme, because he can take liberties if he paid for it.

Ehhh, it's not a good thing but as long as it entertains me (see Cassandra Clare).

Ooh, this looks interesting. Would you mind putting the links for download? I can't find them anywhere, and I tend to like burning my dramas onto DVDs for later watching :)

I will if I find them :) (I was planning to buy the dvds).

LOL, wasn't Summer Desire something else? So angsty and emo and happy-endingy :)

I tried cdramas last out of all the dramas but now I really love them.

lol, i havent started on this particular Ady An and William Feng drama yet. aka Shuo Qing Qiu. I have however been watching another of their drama collaborations, aka Yun Niang, and omg, it's so old school and reminds me of Qiong Yao twdramas in the 80-ies and 90-ies, before she went all crazy and started with the Princess Pearl crap! :(

Melodrama, angst, multiple scheming intergenerational lies, wives, ex-lovers, and Michael Zhang AND William Feng. Ok, catnip!

I wanted to check out YN but sadly there are no subs so I have to comfort myself with melodrama of SQQ.

I loved Peter Ho with his OTP in Wind and Cloud 1 and heard they completely messed with them in Wind and Cloud 2, so I refuse to watch it. You should try 1 first if you can find subs, I also really liked Vincent Jiao there.

There are no subs for 1 :( (Which I think is bizarre that there are for 2).

I was going to type out my very shallow thoughts as follows:

"Angsty doesn't suit my post-Gong mood right, and I'm not a major fan of pre-modern dramas. Besides, that lead actress doesn't look very beautiful to me. So I guess I'll skip this one."

BUT

I watched the first MV and something strange happened.

I find myself very intrigued by the storyline, and more importantly, the female character. She's such an oddball, when you compare her to other drama heroines. And the plot! Very interesting indeed.

But the angst. I could feel it even from just this digest!! How am I to bear watching the whole thing unfold?

ARGH Should I watch it or not!?!?!? *goes google it up nonetheless*

Oh I see Rain Li in the cast...but....

Fine. Since the OTP isn't the main focus of the drama (?), I'm not watching it, I guess.

But Feng Shao had such a gentle gaze in that MV!

Yup, I'm not watching it...I spot a sad ending....

But wow, Mickey He has been in so many shows with Feng Shao!

I think the OTP is the main, but not exclusive focus.

I can spoil you for the ending :)

Maybe Mickey He is making a specialty of losing girls to FSF?

To convince you further to check out FWC have the opening scene:

You know, it's such a strange feeling.

I find their first meeting quite beautiful and mysterious...And Feng Shao Feng's character seems like the perfect lover.

But when I see that, I don't feel like watching on coz it'll be a big puddle of tears soon, from what I see in the opening credits.

It's like...I don't want them to go through all these!!

Am I too weird? What should I do?

You are making me weird. =P

That makes sense - you are just not in the mood for angst.

But apparently in the middle of all the drama, they'll be happy together for quite a while.
