Because this:

Be still my heart. Guy saying this in a middle of battle is definitely under the list of "things Mousie didn't know she craved until she got it."
Clearly, best way to survive being in the middle of a brutal civil war is to find the empire's top fighter and make him fall for you. I approve. Diaochan/Lu Bu ftw.
I can't even imagine the budget of this thing.

The always incredible Cao Cao. It's like he's eating up the screen.

Mousie's new crushes:

Yes, him too, despite the facial hair. He's just that badass.

Mousie's pet annoyance. Stop talking, pls.

And the cutest munchkin award goes to:

Ah, yes, the whole battle scene which made me incoherent. Ah, psycho Legolas, I have quite an unhealthy crush on you.

I need to sleep yet all I have been doing since the baby went to sleep was marathon this. Heeeeeeeeeeeeeelp!
OK, trying. Good night!

Date: 2011-02-17 04:38 pm (UTC)This ruins me for period kdramas. Except for Legend, the scope and budget and look just do not compare.

U know I've never liked Peter Ho in anything, I bet u've seen many more of his works than me.
BUT, he's at last very convincingly in love with his OTP and I connect. Thank you dramagoddess up high.

Date: 2011-02-17 04:48 pm (UTC)Re: Peter Ho. Well, Summer Desire was the makjangest makjang that ever makjanged but after watching him in this I forgive him for it :) I do like him in period dramas, but this is my favorite role of his by far.

Date: 2011-02-17 01:08 pm (UTC)It is really funny that they spray red tint on almost every GuanYu in film. In the novel he is described as red faced and having a great beard (which is widely admired) but I don't think they meant the fave being literally red :) Maybe something got lost in translation.

Date: 2011-02-17 04:46 pm (UTC)ROFL. I know you meant in battle but I can't get the image of Zhuge teaching CaoCao about the birds and the bees :)
Yeah, he's a monster, but he's such a fascinating character.

Date: 2011-02-17 04:54 pm (UTC)Thank you for the link - mp4's sometimes don't display subs on my TV, but this seems to happen mostly with anime. I will check when I get home.

Date: 2011-02-17 05:09 pm (UTC)It is actually hardsubbed anime that for some reason doesn't work on my TV (it shows well, but no sub). I investigated the issue and this seems to be just the issue with the TV's system. Dramas were fine before. ** fingers crossed**

Date: 2011-02-17 05:14 pm (UTC)I will say that though about stuff in the vid - if you want to sleep with a woman, offing her husband and letting a sword get into her vicinity right afterwards is not the smartest course of action :)

Date: 2011-02-17 05:25 pm (UTC)Well, I sort of inferred the guy was the one who ordered her husband killed - at least from first few eps, they are certainly on different sides. I suppose he could have been killed by someone else and he just found her and took her in or something, but I tend to go with the former.

Date: 2011-02-17 05:29 pm (UTC)I gather that Lu Bu, Peter's character (not to confuse with Liu Bei) killed people in buckets, so he most likely killed the guy.

Date: 2011-02-17 05:30 pm (UTC)Oh no, I meant that Cao Cao had Lu Bu killed and then decided Diaochan was hot so why not make her concubine n. 34 or whatever.

Date: 2011-02-17 05:36 pm (UTC)But honestly - you killed her husband, she may not be that keen on sexing you up, dude. It's not a hard concept.

Date: 2011-02-17 05:43 pm (UTC)You are going to love this btw - I am on ep 5 and Lu Bu just showed up by himself in front a walled city which has a whole rebel army in there and challenged them. And now the rebels are freaking out and shutting the gate just because he's outside and he killed three of their generals who challenged him. LOL. It's just one dude! I don't care how good in battle he is, it boggles my mind it doesn't occur to anyone to just shoot him from the walls as opposed to ride to meet him in hand-to-hand where he's going to off them.

I don't think the arrows at that age were precise enough to do it, it would be hard to shut a moving target even in present day times, with a sniper rifle. Plus they had that one-to-one combat culture.

Date: 2011-02-17 05:50 pm (UTC)Re: combat culture. Makes sense. Earlier they were talking how it would be a dishonor for a different enemy general to be killed by a mere archer. How very feudal. Though seeing he shot down all their banners, killed three of their generals and is now taunting them for cowards and challenging all 18 of the lords to battle at once, maybe they should make an exception. Talk about a morale problem.

no subject
Date: 2011-02-17 10:43 pm (UTC)I loved PH as Ou Chen and I love him has a ruthless warrior. He can do no wrong. My only complaint is that we've seen too little of him so far. I know nothing about chinese history and have no clue as to how this will play out. I hope he won't croak half-way into the drama. Cao Cao is charismatic but I need my dose of OTP goodness when watching a drama (and a double dose of it when watching such a long drama full of battles, blood and old foggies with aspirations to the throne). The 18 generals are boring me stiff already. A bunch of mediocre men as Cao Cao would say.
That said, I'm impressed by the quality of the whole production. Sets look gorgeous and they didn't skimp on extras. It sure looks pretty as well as gritty.

Date: 2011-02-18 02:36 am (UTC)I actually like watching 18 lords squabble. It entertains me. In general, I love reading historical nonfiction and it's like that only better as more emotionally engaging and with prettier people :)

Date: 2011-02-18 07:48 am (UTC)I love historical non-fiction as well (in fact I almost became a History teacher because I love history so much) but I have a bit of a hard time with some aspect of Asian history for some reason. Some things fascinate me but others leave me yawning.
Speaking of historicals...have you started The Duo yet? I was checking my subs timing for episode 3 yesterday and it seemed they were teenagers. Hopefully the "adults" appear in ep 4 or 5. I think I'll wait until episode 10 has aired before starting it. If it's a good drama, it'll be good to have that many episodes ready to be marathoned.

Date: 2011-02-18 01:44 pm (UTC)I've always liked Peter Ho, but I was never obsessed about him before now.
Re: The Duo. The teens are supposed to be there for first 8 eps. Yikes.

Date: 2011-02-18 02:06 pm (UTC)8 episodes with teens for The Duo? Yikes indeed. That sucks.

Date: 2011-02-19 08:13 am (UTC)But I just saw your post about what happens next re-"Undaddy wants my woman" and boy....this is going to end well....Even if he "saves" her, you can be 99.99% sure he'll find out all about the plan in a little while.

I am actually not so sure. I mean, if this drama was "The epic love of Diaochan and Lu Bu" then yes. But it's a ginormous epic with an insanely huge cast of main characters and they already spent three solid episodes just on them (it really didn't switch to other storylines at all). So I think they just might let it go and focus on other story strands. Oddly, I won't mind because I just want them to have some normal happy times before nasty stuff will start happening again.
