I like to do periodic updates of what I am watching/about to watch, so flisties would know what I am likely to be posting about for the next couple of weeks. Here's the latest, broken by country

JAPAN

Buzzer Beat - I shall get to it, I shall! Cute Yamapi as shortest basketball player ever with adoraable Kitagawa Keiko as his OTP. Didn't you feel kittens and rainbows being created just reading this?

Guilty - Rrrrrrevenge! On Tamaki Hiroshi's hairstylist.

Oishii Proposal - sounds cute and involves yummy food and I blame [livejournal.com profile] ladysaotome

Rondo - revenge and twisty lovers and I had it on my HD forever.

Tokyo Wankei - Japanese woman of Korean ancestry falls for Japanese man, angst follows. Sluuuuurp.

KOREAN

Dream High - follow as aired. But only if Sam Dong abandons his emo boat. Juuuump!

New Tales of the Gsaeng - Saran/Damo = best OTP in a long long time though I honestly don't see how Saran will ever become a gisaeng with her pure character.

TAIWAN

Eternal Love - yes, I adored it, and yes, I got side-tracked. Poor boy, rich girl, tragic family fate, happy ending, Sandrine Pinna's cuteness and Wilbur Pan's amazing smile.

Love Buffet - sometimes I need brainless fluff and college love triangle involving two members of Fareheit (sadly, not with each other) is what the doctor ordered.

CHINA/HONG KONG

A Step Into the Past - time travel to Qin. If not uber-hottie, need not apply.

Fight and Love with a Terracotta Warrior - currently downloading raws, having resigned herself to no subs being available ever.

Jade Palace Lock Heart - if you haven't realized that (a) I am obsessed about it (b) what this drama is about, you must really not be reading this LJ.

The Seventh Day - I wanted a modern HK drama and this has aaaaaaaaaaaangst and doomed ship and terminal illness. Sign me up!

The Shanghai Bund - Huang Xiaoming in suits, fedoras and with a gun. I don't need anything else.

So I'm not planning on watching Terracotta Warrior because it sounds super-long and angsty and like the type of thing I get addicted to, but then scare all my neighbors because I scream at the computer screen repeatedly, and then finally skip to the end of. However, if there's ever any ... I dunno, any particular part that is confusing because you don't understand? I can maybe help? My Chinese isn't great, but I should be able to summarize the gist of what is going on? I don't know, it always seems like you watch a lot of raws and have amazing powers of plot-guessing, so probably you don't need to help, but if you do, let me know. :)

But that sort of addiction sounds fun :)

And thank you for that offer, I just might take you up on it.

You need to continue watching My Princess! It's sooo sooo good! There is more angst now! hahaha And I like it that the leads are very upfront about their feelings and aren't afraid to express them. I hate it when you know that they obviously like each other but just refuse to admit it....

I am on epi 19 of Jade Palace Lock Heart and I want to change ships!!! hahaha
FOUR just made an swoonsome speech! Ok, no more spoilers!

URGH But he is still a heartless bastard!!! urgh!!
Okay, back on the EIGHT/QC ship I think.... hahaha

I honestly don't think you need subs at all, you have amazing powers of deduction!!!

I am just not big on romcoms. I might get back to MP when it ends though.

Re: Jade Palace re: Four. Once a psycho, always a psycho :)

My 2 cents

Hated, hated, HATED Buzzer Beat. That's 11 hours of my life that I'll never get back. Maybe because I marathoned it? Dunno. It was simply ridiculous and I thought the characters were laaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.

how'd you possibly HATE buzzer beat with the swoony ending of episode 5 and episode 7?!
and i loved how the drama lead up to those scenes...

There you go.

Look, I was the idiot who kept watching, even though I hated it, in the hopes that it would get better. Plus I had to know how it ended. Le idiot, c'est moi.

Tokyo Wankei.... oh the memories! It has angsty moments and the actors are good in their parts... Really enjoyed that one... I recall it was one of those first jdramas I watched... I was still getting used to the differences between jdramas and kdramas and I remember I thought this one was a kind of a mix. The heroine suffers for love... I also learned things I didn't know about Japanese-Koreans... so that was a plus. Happy Watching.

Very interesting list. I hadn't heard about Rondo and the plot sounds very twisty so I will have to check it out.

*Small voice* When you have time after all of those, you want to check out Atami no Sousakan. I've pimped it before but it's just that good.

Also, I recently watched the kmovie Cyrano Agency and it really impressed me. I thought it was going to be mindless fluff but it was also humorous and then it hits you with angst. The cast is great as well and it includes the actor Uhm Tae-Woong who is so excellent in this movie.

A side note but I haven't been impressed with any recent jdramas as of late. Like you've said before, when a jdrama is good it's SO good but nothing has been catching my eye lately. I think the most recent drama that was amazing was Love Shuffle and that was 2009.

I am trying to remember about AnS - is there shipping? :)

From: [identity profile] vert-gazon.livejournal.com
There is shipping. It's not very overt but it's there. The nice thing is that the OTP are always together since they live together during the series. They do have very sweet and funny interactions with each other and both rely/protect each other as well.

Guilty

Admittedly, I will watch anything and everything with Kanno Miho in it, but Guilty was really satisfying. But every time I looked at Tamaki Hiroshi's hair, I thought that we'll be seeing him with those other bad-hair boys on next year's Shisedo Fog Bar shows that jicks posts on her blog.

And I second the suggestion for Atami no Sousakan. You say you don't like detective/crime shows, but this is way more than that. One of the few I've wanted to re-watch immediately.

The writer of Dream High also wrote Get Karl! Oh Soo Jung. Oddly enough that drama also had a character that was fat but became skinny.

I tried Get Karl and it wasn't offensive but didn't grab me either.

I couldn't finish 'Tokyo Wankei' even though I liked both the leads. It was just too Kdrama-ish for my liking ... I mean, they even dressed one of the secondary characters after BYJ in 'Winter Sonata'. I enjoy angsty Kdramas but when I watch a Jdrama I expect a Jdrama you know? haah.
I did enjoy the novel that it was supposed to be based on, but the scriptwriters pretty much changed everything except their names in the drama.

I like kdrama everywhere (that's why I like Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake - it's such a kdrama) so hopefully it'll work for me but who knows.

And LOL about BYJ.

I was wondering what happened to Eternal Love, you just got me interested and then I thought it got boring and you dropped it or something. :p

I always wondered how you can find the time to watch all those dramas listed, reading lots of books & taking care of your baby....I wish I have 48hours a day... Ok what's your secret?
