dangermousieIt turned out I did have time after all.
1. Eight and Qing Chuan are now discussing pornography. I think I am going to dieeeeeeeeeeee :P Especially when she tells him she isn't phased by the porn book because she's seen better and he asks with genuine curiousity "what's better than [title of book]?" and then pauses and concludes "ah, I know, you like peeking at men in bathhouses." Ahahahahahaha.
2. I love you, QC, but you are not very smart - shouldn't you suspect those maid bitches when they give you the red dress etc etc - and realize it's another of their bullying maneuvers? (It's like the MG party scene only 10x worse because all Shan Cai faced was some embarassment, here QC can be whipped to death for this). I love that QC rescues herself with her smart words. She rocks. Side note - how stupid are the maids? They know Eight wants her for a concubine. Shouldn't they genuinely try to get on the good side of someone who might become concubine of one of the Royal Princes and thus boss them around all day if she felt like it?
3. OMG, she won over Imperial Consort De, Four's Mom, through sheer awesomeness. YEAH!
4. I actually rather like Kang Xi, even if his refusal to pick an heir is a bad bad bad thing and is leading to all the dynastic in-fighting.
5. One of the things I really love in this drama is how it doesn't shove the 'desperation of women' in your face but it's all there - all these hundreds of women, cooped in the palace, their only future through attracting one of the limited number of royal males (or keeping affections of the ones who took them for their own), scheming to win over female rivals to get attention of chosen protector/put son on top etc etc etc. It's all about the men, with other women as rivals for that sole source of not just power but survival. Take Kang Xi. Not a bad-looking guy for his age, but no way would he be able to get hundreds of gorgeous women fawning over him if he was anything but an Emperor. Or Concubine Xi, all desperate because unlike some of the other wives, she has no son and thus no future. Or maids, who all want to catch the eye of the royal princes - they know nothing of their personalities or care even if they knew the worst (hello, at least two of them think rape is fun and another one is a fratricide) because they want the security of their protection. Creeeeeepy and understandable at the same time. And that is why QC is such a rarity - she is from another time and so she cannot view it this way even if I am sure logically she can follow it. That's why she catches Eight's attention actually - because she's such an anomaly in this hot-house full of desperate schemers.
6. Four is such a creep! He's going to woo and seduce an official's daughter so official recommends him as a Crown Prince. I have no problem with political marriages, but this manipulation and lying to the girl is awful. Ugh, pig. He's very effective and charming when he wants to be and he freaks the heck out of me. I love love love his prospective wife though - she's adorable. And I can see why QC likes Four, with the information and interactions they have, but I kinda want to yell at her to run and hide far far far away.
7. ROFL. Eight's solution to QC not wanting to be his wife - "OK, I get it. I am going to ask my father and make you my first wife." LOL, he's kinda a darling - he's all confused when she refuses and tells him she is never going to like him. I mean, what more could a woman want, right? :P Side note - could he really make her his first wife? I don't doubt that he means it, but how feasible is it he could do so? I mean, she's a nobody and while I don't think anyone would care much who he took as a concubine, considering he can have dozens of those, a first wife is quite a different matter and I think his father would object pretty strenuously. In-te-res-ting.
8. I literally choked on my cranberry juice. Eight's brothers took him to a brothel and he's all wtf and they tell him "hey, you wanted to learn how to win a woman's heart and this is the perfect place to do so." Bwahahahahahaha. I don't think you are referring to a heart, boys. (Also - getting a hooker to accept you for sex through loads of cash and status is not the same as getting a gal to fall for you, but whatever, you are all socially stunted). And ahahahahahahaha at his 'deer in headlights' reaction in the brothel. And he's shoving the hookers off and is all "ugh, why is it so messy in here?" and his bros goggle at him and are all "is this your first time here?" And then he gets fed up and and is all "what's the use of that?" and orders all the hookers to go back to their rooms with sheaves of money and for all the men to stay so they could answer his questions. And every time they answer (e.g. 'how do you get a girl to go out with you?' 'buy her stuff') he gives them cash. They also tell him he needs to have a gentler manner and he's all "how do I do that?" Bwahahahahahahahahahaha ILY. It's LOLtastic. I love you, drama!

Oh god, I'm just reminded. What if that useless prince (Prince 11?) gets out of jail and comes after QC? Ahhh what a mess. Will be so fun to watch though I'm sure.
Weirdly I keep on comparing BOF and JPLH. I would be like, OMG, this is the period version of what happened in BOF.
Anyways, gotta go watch some more episodes! <3

I have no idea if he's a virgin but he's certainly acting as if he's never been in a brothel before lololololol. I don't think he has that much experience at best :P (which is probably good as STDs are not fun) and I don't think they had protection back then lol.
