I've gotten a few questions about good romantic jdramas so I thought this would be the time to make a plug for one of my favorites - Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake. I was obsessed with it and still adore it. He's a famous music star and she's a brash high schooler who thinks nothing of prostituting herself to get money to pay for tickets to his concert. Only, it's a jdrama so she gets HIV from her 'paid date.'

What can I say? His issues have issues and she's dying and stigmatized. They are in love and codependent and awesome and angsty. There is a lot of running and Takeshi Kaneshiro in leather pants and the best kissing I've ever seen in jdramas. It's like the perfect fanfic you never knew you wanted.

Have an unspoilery MV (those are really hard to find):

I love this drama so much. It's full of wall-to-wall swoony romanticism. It made me grin and bawl and swoon. This drama is the reason I can never dislike Asano Taeko, whatever weirdness she does next - because once upon a time, 12 years ago, she wrote KMSD. Here is my second-favorite scene, even if the uploader chopped it somewhat.

My favorite scene is, sadly, not youtube. It's the gloriously insane "I want to prove how much I love you so I want to have unprotected sex with you, my AIDS-suffering beloved." That was beyond insane and yet AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH PERFECT.

Anyway, check it out if you haven't already.

This is one of my favorite dramas ever. It introduced me to two fabulous people: Takeshi Kaneshiro and Fukada Kyoko. It was a pitch perfect serious, romantic drama.

Side note: I sometimes wonder what happened to Asano Taeko. She went from this perfect drama to writing things like Last Friends and Tsuki no Koibito (Moon Lovers).

I have some people on my flist who refuse to try KMSD because they hated Last Friends and TnK so and I really wish I could convince them this is utterly different because it is. No idea what happened to her but the difference is drastic. KMSD is romantic and adult and written pitch-perfectly but her latest dramas are insane.

Same here. I know several people who won't even look at a clip of KMSD, because of Last Friends and/or TnK. I finally made a KMSD vid, and that's what I show now - I've convinced one person to give it a go. She said it was like a K-drama; I said "I know".

I think the writer was trying to be hip or trendy, but she was just a mess. It's weird, because I actually like Innocent Love, which is just as big of a mess as, say, Last Friends, but I still think Innocent Love is better. I think it has to do with the cast and the overall story arcs.

I really wish I could convince people that KMSD is different from her recent efforts. She's not the only writer on the down spiral anyway. It's just like - Sunao ni Narenakute was awful but that particular writers Tattakoi was wonderful.

Re: Innocent Love. I enjoyed the half of it that I saw (my hd died and I only recently re-dled it). It wasn't good (the way KMSD was good) but was entertaining and sympathetic. Plus it led me to discover Yuzu so it's all awesome.

ETA: Oooh, do you have a link to your KMSD vid? I love yours and I never check for vids outside of youtube so I am sure I missed it.

The writer of Sunao has written some of the best romantic J-dramas. I think that Sunao was just a case her trying to capture of the Last Friends thing; it had aired about a year before and was hugely popular in Japan. Sunao and Last Friends have more than a few similarities.

Re: Innocent Love. I agree. I've watched the whole thing, and while its not good, it is enjoyable and the characters (the main two) are sympathetic. Even the brother of the female lead had my sympathy. Everyone else was just a jerk or evil or really really in need of a break.

Yes, I have a link. here (There's also one for Pride. Click megaupload, and then you can watch on megavideo)

I post all my vids at my journal, now. Youtube keeps deleting my accounts. FYI: I've done four or five YS/DA vids for Gloria

KMSD has, hands down, the best kissing in jdramas. Open mouths and all. It's shocking. (Or maybe not - I find that, in general, 1990s dramas were a lot more open about physical affection).

It's one of the few dramas I've watched, on your recommendation (and because of Takeshi Kaneshiro, to be honest.) I really, really liked it, even if I felt exhausted towards the end.

It's fairly unusual for a jdrama but a good kind of unusual. I've never seen anything quite like it before or since.

Plus, Takeshi.......leather pants.... mmmmm.

I thought about watching this once for -you know, Takeshi Kaneshiro-, but the summery just screamed out 'melodrama and angstttttt' so I decided to skip it.
I have it on a hd. Should I actually watch it?

I love it but it is pretty emo (it's too quiet to be a melodrama a la a kdrama one though it probably is one by jdrama stadards).
