I am exactly halfway through Taiyou no Uta and it's official - this is likely the best romantic jdrama I have ever seen. Better than Tatta Hitotsu no Koi. Better than Itoshi Kimi E. Better than Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake. Better than Majo no Jouken. Possibly better than Aishteiru to Itte Kure and Pride (romance-wise, not overall, of course). This is so so so SO good, you guys! It's every thing I wanted in a drama, not knowing I did. And the best part it's all so wistful and understated while being swoonily romantic at the same time.

She's found out her nervous system is deteriorating and she can't play any more and all she wants is to die so she goes hiding and he goes out of his mind looking for her.

And then she works herself up so much she doesn't even want to wait for the sun and tries to walk in and drown...but he won't let her.

Best drama confession of love EVER. I especially love that he says it as a matter-of-course, as if it's the most obvious thing out there, even as he's terrified out of his wits that he may lose her to her suicide wish.

O-M-G. I especially love it that she has no idea he can even play (he lied and told her he threw away the guitar she found three years ago because he was terrible at playing). O-M-G.

And he proves to her he can play (and amazingly well too - he basically plays pitch-perfect the tune he only heard her play once).

Seriously, problems breathing.

Have another MV. This one is that rarity-of-rarities, unspoilery.

Ok, I usually hate watching dramas with a sad ending, but you just convinced me to start watching it with this post.
I am in a jdrama mood too, so this will be my next one after I've finished Engine.

AHHHH, I just cried while reading your recap pictures. Wow, I've never been interested in Japanese dramas all that much, but now I really want to watch this one!

Great thing is they are short - this one is only 10 eps of 45 mins each.

Let me know if you need help with links if you decide to check it out.

Oh, you know I love me a good romantic Jdrama...
but this one has a tragic tragic ending!!! I can't!!!
Not over the Chinese New Year holiday!!!

hahahaha

but this looks even more romantic and gut-wrenching than Kamisama...and that by far is one of the best examples of a romantic jdrama (which they totally need to make more off, not those stupid highschool ones with anorextic johnnys...)

Are there any romantic jdramas with happy endings???? (other than Hanadan...)

Aishteiru to Ittekure, Itoshi Kimi E, Majo no Jouken, and Tatta Hitotsu no Koi are all romantic, deliciously angsty dramas with happy endings :)

I wish they'd make more of those and less of those stupid Gokusen 34 (or whatever number they are up to) dramas.

I'm not sure I'd characterize the endings of either Itoshi Kimi or Majo no Jouken as exactly "happy", but I agree they're not angstfests.

You are the bravest lady of ever. I would have been down in the dumps at this point (from the ominous foreshadowing alone), trying to cut my wrists.

I remember you loved Snow Queen and that was about a million times more depressing.

I think I got to the point in my life where this is somewhat uplifting. She was going to die anyway, but at least that way she got to live first. And he found someone worthy of his devotion and who restored his confidence and love of music. I am one of those people who hopes that a few years after he finds some other awesome person to love.
