Christensen & Jackson Play Game of Poker
Source: Variety November 8, 2005

Icon Entertainment International has acquired worldwide rights to Poker Night, a thriller with Hayden Christensen and Samuel L. Jackson attached to star.

Variety says the film centers on a rookie detective (Christensen) who wakes to find himself strapped to a chair in a dim and filthy basement. The cop's faceless abductor is a vicious serial killer who is mercilessly torturing his captive both physically and mentally.

Nick Gillard will direct from a screenplay by Greg Francis. Film is scheduled to begin next year.

Dangermousie's thoughts: as I said to [livejournal.com profile] crumpeteer (who is the one who pointed me towards the article), while normally this isn't my thing (squeamish), I am all up for some hurt-comfort Anakin. Bring it on!

Also, that's the second movie in a row that HC is doing someone who isn't moving (there is that patient movie with Jessica Alba). I guess it's a reaction against having to do all those swordfights. :P And am also glad to see it's likely Samuel L. Jackson will get to avenge that arm :P

Ah, I knew Nick was doing a thriller with Hayden and Sam (he mentioned it at C3), but until now I hadn't seen any details on it. Cool. :)

Though what is it with the trapped/tortured characters? One might think RotS has permanently scarred him or something. ;)

Well, to look on the bright side: none of his characters can ever be worse off than Anakin. :)

I have no objections to the tortured characters. The boy is really good at angst!

'Tis very true. I'd say Anakin has cornered the market on character woe. ;)

Agreed - definitely not objecting. *g* Though it would be nice to see him branch out. (Well, I suppose there's The Decameron, though I'm not entirely sure what sort of guy he's playing there.)

LOL. Now I have an image of various fictional characters having a contest.

"And the winner is Mr. Brought Up a Slave, Taken from his Mother (who later died in his arms tortured to death), Attachment is Forbidden, Lose Your Arm in Battle, Dreading Death of Secret Wife, Sell Your Soul to Save Her and Lose Her Anyway as Your Fault, and oh yeah, End Up a Slave to Evil in a Respirator, Mr. Anakin Skywalker."

I suppose there's The Decameron, though I'm not entirely sure what sort of guy he's playing there.

There wasn't much angst in Bocaccio's Decameron but I have no idea what the movie is doing with the book. Well, at least he won't be immobilized :)

Oooh, that sounds interesting! Right up my alley kinda thing. ;)

Hey, if HC is just gonna sit there and let us stare at the pretty, I'm fine with it. XD

I am sure he's just going to sit there and get tortured and angst...yum!

Yes, he is quite good at the angst. Why bother with any other emotions? Heee.

/fans self/
I get the feeling this is gonna be one hot movie. ^^

He's doing tons of films next year. Apart from the films you mentioned (The Decameron, Awake and Poker Nights) he's rumored to be in a film called Crash Bandits and he's supposed to be in Factory Girl. The latter is a film about Edie Sedgwick (played by Sienna Miller) a '60s icon and one of Andy Warhol's muses. He's going to play her rock star lover based on Bob Dylan.
And last but not least he'll do a fantasy movie with Christina Ricci and Reese Witherspoon called Penelope.

I have no idea how he's going to make all these movies in the next few month but I'm looking forward to them nonetheless. But I have to admit that I'm more drawn to the tortured characters as in Awake and Poker Nights, as well. He has yet to prove that he can be as intriguing in a light romantic role as in darker ones.

Wow, that is a lot of movies. "Penelope" sounds odd, but I suppose could be cute. But yes, I am looking forward to the angsty ones the most :)

Christensen will play a knight-in-shining-armor type whose kiss can turn the ugly swine into a swan.

Wow, that resembles absolutely no fangirl fantasies I've seen. ;)

I hadn't realized he had so much work lined up. Good on him.

Hayden tied up...a fangirl's dream come true!

I also thought, "Aha! Mace's revenge!"

I know...Mace is gettin' his own back! :P

Also, if I tied him up, it isn't torture that would be on my mind...

Hayden does tortured angst so beautifully. He's one of the few actors who can be so beautifully vulnerable and angry all at once. There's an elegance to it. I look forward to the chair strapping.

No one messes with Mace and gets away with it. He'll even follow you to another MOVIE to pop a cap in yo ass.

Vulnerable and angry. Yes, that's it. It makes you be afraid of him andwant to hug him at the same time. *sigh*

ROTFLOL!

I'm actually thrilled that Hayden is getting so much work. People seem to recognize that he does have some talent. His plate is just full right now.

I think it's that extremely vulnerable yet frightening aspect too him that will get him roles. I very rarely see that in actors. The only one who is starting to come close to that is Jensen Ackles, who does it in a different way than Hayden does. As long as I get my angst we're good.
