First, a cute moment:

Second, could I love Oska any more than I do? He's such an awesome big brother to Joo Won. This little exchange with Ra Im about JW in ep 16 (translation courtesy of Softy's awesome livecaps) did something very funny to my stomach:

R: I’ve been curious from a while back but why do you always give in to JW?
oska: uh – how did you know I was letting him win? other people think I am getting beat by him.
R: even though you are getting beat by him – your face looks happy
oska: the more I see you – you are a really good woman
I hope you will take good care of our JW
oska: the reason why I always lose to JW is cuz when he was 21, he had a terrible thing happen to him. because of that, he had a hard time and even suffered some depression-watching him like that was hard. he didnt even talk for a while. from that moment on I would purposely bother , annoy, tease, and bug him so that at least he would get ticked off
R: what happened (to him)?
oska: hear it from JW-later when JW remembers
R: what?
oska: jw cant remember that time

But I have to confess that I am clearly an awful person because when I found out that JW's mysterious horrible accident that we don't know the details about was an elevator accident I laughed and laughed and laughed. I mean - I understand it must have been something truly awful to put him into that state and for RI's father to die but I can't possibly imagine it - I mean, what? He got stuck in an elevator for 12 hours? With some smelly people? And only Vogue to read? Honestly, what kind of an elevator accident can one have? It's not like falling down a mine shaft. LOL. OK, I am sure I will be truly sorry and empathetic when I find out what it actually is.

hahaha, I can make it more gruesome for you if you like. more like what if the elevator gets stock half way and by the time RI's dad comes to help, it starts working again cutting the poor man in half in front of poor JW??? how about that? hehehei yes, watch lots of horror movies.

These are my own two cents: I thought that it was possible that there was a fire (Ra Im's father is a fireman), and Joo Won's elevator was stuck, so he couldn't get out. Ra Im's father probably decided to save him, but ended up getting stuck in the elevator somehow.

Well, since JW isn't scarred by a fire, we can try to assume nobody was crisped in front of him (which would be seriously traumatizing, ne?) So, let's go with trapped and suffocating from smoke inhalation found by Dad but still trapped so Dad elects to give him the oxygen and so dies instead. So, seeing guy suffocate in front of you might be fairly traumatizing.

Or Dad is rescuing him and is somehow killed in front of him.

Me, I have a bone to pick about JWmom and family - if Mom's caring enough to deliver flowers to the cemetery annually then um....didn't they either go to the funeral/visitation or look up the family of the firefighter to extend gratitude or in the case of rich folk - see if they were taken care of? - because your normal person/family/whatever would have. (oddly enough, I'm under orders to deliver flowers and bow to a particular grave in person if I am ever in a particular town to pay a debt of honor, but if the family on the other end saw me or the flowers, they'd know why I was there)

Ok, let's assume they are all huddled in the hospital around JWs bed for a day or so. I'm still thinking you hear "JW was saved but the guy died saving him" and you have the ability to do it because as granddad you are the CEO of a honking big company, you call your lawyer to make sure the surviving members of that family are taken care of - even if you do it anonymously. If your gratitude extends to that many years of visits to a gravesite, you'd think it would have extended a bit farther at the time of the accident. Because you'd think "firefighter dies" is on the news - and then usually the funeral would be covered as well, mentioning that they left a kid.

Ok, so it's a drama and these are drama people who are in a fantasy story, but srsly writer? Wasn't slicker way of doing that reveal?

But Ra Im better not go all Noble Idiot like Mom is wanting, because that SO does not make any sense. We've got 4 more episodes - so enough for a little more angsting, accidents, near tragedies, etc - but I want no foolish separations when we've taken this many episodes to get to some snogging.

And don't you love that Oska bowed when talking in Japanese on the phone? That is SO Japanese. Even I've done it on the rare occasions I've spoken Japanese on the phone. Well, actually don't ya just love Oska?

After spending a week only in Japan, when we came back I caught myself bowing to people who looked like they thought I was insane. It is insidious :)

Re: RI's Dad and JWM etc. Well, I can see why they didn't show to the funeral (JW is probably in terrible shape plus tbh I'd find it really awkward to interact with family of a guy who died to save mine). Of course, if it was RL, I would just as easily assume JWM came but seeing someone once 13 yrs ago when your mind is occupied by other things won't lead either RI or JWM to remember each other. But since it's a drama and everyone has the memory of an elephant, I am assuming she didn't come to the funeral.

As to why JW family didn't support RI? Well, to play a devil's advocate, an occasional visit to memorial site (we have no evidence anyone other than JWM comes either and we have no idea if it's a yearly thing or she just came now because of all the stuff happening and needing good karma) is a lot cheaper than supporting some person(s) :)

Re: Noble Martyr. I happen to love "I am giving you up for your own good and being cruel even though my heart is breaking" cliche but I hope RI won't go that route because there is a bigger obstacle to them now than JW potentially remembering stuff and getting some angst. To put it bluntly, her boyfriend's responsible for her father's death and her poor life. No, of course it's not his fault, but it's because of him. If she does the math and figures it out I can see a huge obstacle - I might not blame the guy and wish him dead but I'd be really not into being with him.
