If I manage to get out of work before 10 pm, I am going to see Where the Truth Lies, an Atom Egoyan film with Colin Firth, Kevin Bacon and Alison Lohman. I've been reading some good things about it. I am rather amused as I see it's listed as "Not Rated." That's because otherwise it was going to be NC-17 for a scene of a threesome, because apparently the MPAA has some really bizarre rules about how many thrusts you can show uninterrupted (I think 3 or more=NC-17) and Egoyan tried really hard to film it so it'd be R-rated and then just gave up. :P

Also, I just saw the poster for The White Countess and WHOA.

I want to see it. So badly. It's a Merchant-Ivory film set in Shanghai of the 1930s and involves a blind former American Diplomat played by *swoon* Ralph Fiennes and an impoverished Russian emigre noblewoman played by Natasha Richardson. There are a few reviews out and they are good.

I have also found this FYC Poster for Walk the Line which also has excellent reviews and tons of Oscar buzz.

The White Countess sounds so so good.

Walk the Line is iffy for me. Because I adore Joaquin, but I'm not too into the Johnny Cash, and thus I can't decide!

I know nothing about Johnny Cash (except that he was a popular singer) but the trailers and the cast look good.

I like Joaquin and LOVE Reese, but I'm not sure I want to see Walk The Line...it depends.

My mood at the time, reviews, time constraints, lots of things.

I'm curious to see #1 (although I did see one terrible review for it, but it's Egoyan, and he's usually good, so who knows?).

However 2 & 3? Yes, yes, yes. I adore Ralph Fiennes, so it goes without saying that I want to see The White Countess and I'm hearing good things about Walk the Line. I don't know much about Johnny Cash either (other than that he is a legendary music figure, and I've heard some of his music), but as with Ray, I didn't know much about Ray Charles either, yet I thought that was a very impressive film, and extremely worth seeing.

#1 is playing at Dupont, so if I hate it, I can always walk out and have a nice dinner instead. :) It's 36% fresh at RT and I've found I often enjoy "artsy" movies that are in the 30s because even if they are flawed, they are interesting.

As to Ralph Fiennes? He is one of my favorite actors, and unfortunately isn't in nearly enough movies for my liking (though hey, he's better about it than Daniel Day-Lewis).

Yeah, Walk the Line looked really good and it's been getting some crazy buzz, so I am thinking, why not?

Mmmmm, Ralph Fiennes and Daniel Day-Lewis...two of my favorite actors. Yes. I really do love an inordinate number of UK/Non-American actors...Clive Owen, Daniel Craig, just to name a couple more. :)

Me too. I have no idea why. Maybe the accent makes them sound more intelligent? :P

Hadn't heard about either of the first two. "White Countess" sounds particularly yummy. Ralph Fiennes...::drools:: and Natasha Richardson... I've already seen commercials on TV for "Walk the Line" and the OH and I definitely want to see that. I actually like Johnny Cash--not like I have any of his records or anything, but I like the soulful gravel in his voice, and the hard life topics of his songs. From the commercials, Joaquin does have something of the same quality, but his voice is sweeter...

Our next film will probably be "Jarhead"--not a dangermousie priority, I would think, LOL! But everyone here (in my antiwar household, no less) is keen to see it. Still, I'm intrigued by the ads, and I do like both Jaime Fox and Jake Gyllengal (guessing at the spelling here ::blush::).

Do let us know what you think about that other one...

I do want to see Jarhead. The trailer looks good and I like the cast (though reviews are somewhat mixed).

As to RF? Yup, yum indeed!

I want to see all of those. I forgot Joaquin Phoenix in my picspam last night-I like him too. And Ralph Fiennes=guh.

I read Where the Truth Lies a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, so I'm looking forward to that one. The threesome was quite a shock in the book-totally unexpected.

You post so many interesting things so quickly! I reply to one and you've got three more posts up. I'm avoiding that spoiler post, but damn it is hard. I'm unspoiled for VM, except for the opening of next week and that Kristen spoiler this week that I just couldn't resist(and that totally dumbfounded me.)
