Roswell occupied most of my August (just go and see my August entries. Most of them are verbose musings on various aspects of the show). But you know what? I was rewatching Ch-ch-changes today and it's still just as good. The chemistry is still crazy, the angst is still amazing, and Max is still a shade too intense for comfort and Liz too pragmatic and push-away trouble, and I love that they are flawed and good golly, I almost forgot what a huge OTP they are for me. Tender, and troubled, and so impossibly young.

I like them intense, I suppose. The bit where he is almost crying and she shuts the window on him anyway? Love.

Also, it was clever to do the whole "they meet because he saves her life." It's hard to be mad at him after that. Ever. After all, his life went to hell because of that. He got captured and tortured because of that. He got discovered by Tess because of that. But he discovered Liz and Liz fell in love with him, so it all evens out.

Ahhhhh....

Do you have other Roswell people on your flist besides me? (Even though I'm such a negligent Roswell person right now but luckily lots of my Roswell friends are turning into VM fans).

Dude, when those pics came out, it seemed like the entire Roswell fandom went up in flames - noone talked about anything else for days.

I actually wrote a fic that incorporates them into the Rosverse but it's prolly not your cup of tea since it's UC (Zan/Maria). I just couldn't see those pics being of Max so I made them of dupe!zan (only, y'know, not dead).

The one I was just talking about is a one shot and it's called "You Belong in Pictures."

I do have a Dreamer fic ("Smoldering") but I warn you it's NC17 but also extreme wish fulfillment - it breaks away from Canon like before Sexual Healing and follows them throughout their lives in vignettes. Interestingly it was probably the most "popular" of my fics yet the least nominated for awards.

My "epic" is called "Second Chances." I totally understand if you don't want to read it since it's UC (except for Michael and Maria) but I will tell you that a great many Dreamers read it despite the fact that it's Zan/Liz because I (being a dreamer myself) made a big point of being very respectful of the Max/Liz relationship. I'm a weirdo and I've only written Z/L where Max has either a) died or b) never existed (AU) because I don't want to see them break up.

Although I do have a plot bunny for a future fic in which Max and Maria get together but Max and Liz have become BFF forever.

Hey, I read the first few parts of Smoldering, but I don't nom anymore. Hell, I hardly go on Fanatics anymore for more than five minutes. I bookmarked Smoldering for a read at a not-busy time but then I fall of the wagon and forget. (Seriously, my list of just Rosfic to read is so long.)

But at fanatics, there are so many good dreamer fic (not to say that Smoldering is bad, there are just so many), that a lot of really good fics get lost in the dust. Since there are fewer UC fics, the good ones usually make it to noms.

But M/L as BFF? And Maria as his lover. That's weird for me too. I can see it the other way around? Yeah, I'm pretty hardxcore dreamer.

Oh, I know why Smoldering doesn't get nommed as much. It's partially because there are more CC fics in general but it's also because it's ALL sex scenes and there isn't a category for "best NC17" fic anymore. I mean, I think it has a plot in its complete structure but it's not traditional.

Also, I don't get my panties in a twist over fanatics awards. I just don't.

I've got it worked out in my head in a way that I think would work. Also, I know a lot of people that are very close with their first love but together with someone else. But I understand being so OTP-ish about your OTP that you can't read UC. A lot of people are like that.

I can't see Max and Liz as BFF, not after any kind of a break-up. They were too in love and too intense. Actually, since they are an OTP, I can't see them break-up either, but then I am severely non UC person, so I am the wrong person to proffer an opinion and YMMV of course.

See, I'm very good friends with an ex with whom I had several of the most traumatic break ups ever. It took a lot of time but did happen.

But yeah, I understand that some people are just totally "no-UC" all the time.

I myself, read UC not all that often (except with slash, y'know) but if the writing is good and the author either pays attention to canon to make it work or AUs is so that the canon is irrelevant.

And I don't like character bashing AT ALL. Like in the Zan fic world, there's basically two camps. People who ship Zan/Liz 'cause they still think Jason Behr is hot but are too mad at Max for "cheating" (which I don't think he did - them not being together and all - I don't like the Tex but I call it like I see it) and then there are others who just think the possibilities are intriguing.

Hey, I'm a Roswell person! Slowing slinking my way into VM. And, very much dreamer. Whee! I have only seen S3 once, but the second half didn't make me angry at the show, so that's good. And Ch-Ch-Changes broke my heart. I watched that one *twice*. I cried both. For about a month, I would cry just reading the letter.

Oh, I loved how Roswell ended: I like Season 1 the best, but thought season 3 was good too.

My problem with the ending was the lack of closure from Max's... mistake, shall we say? Because even though they (M/L) were not technicaly together, they were still in essence, a couple, and the whole world knew it. It was just, "Hey Liz! I fucked Tess and got her pregnant, can we still be together? Oh, and can you also help me find my son?" My biggest disapointment with "Busted!" was the lack of an apology (not to say that was all, I did love the coloring/texture of that episode though). The lake scene (even with the stripping Max) was just a slap in the face. The beginning of S3 Max was still pretty much an asshole, so... I guess I have to weigh the options.

The funny thing is, the Tess/Max thing and lack of apology didn't bother me at all (and I know that's an unusual Dreamer position). After all, Max and Liz were really broken up: she slept with someone else (he thought), she did everything but get a restraining order against him, she thought one of the aliens murdered Alex, she left for Sweden, she said they can't be friends any more. I think any guy is entitled to believe himself free after that, especially since it was a one-time thing and the guy totally freaked. So I *gasp* actually don't think Max has anything to apologize for, and Liz owes him one heck of an explanation. But then Max was always my POV character...

I do think all of Season 2 thing was so painful for them they decided to just "think of it as one of those not real things" (TM Veronica Mars) and not talk about it. Or maybe they talked it out before he asked her out in Busted. I am atually one of the few people who puts Busted in her Top 10 eps :)
