Ended up watching BTVS's season 3's ep "Beauty & the Beasts." The monster-of-the-week is a bit of an aferschool special (gasp! abusive boyfriends are baaaaad!) but it has Faith and my favorite Buffy/Angel moment of them all: the supremely melodramatic and effective scene of Angel, who's just returned from hell, asking "Buffy?" and dropping on his knees, holding her, and sobbing, as Buffy cries. Yes, I am a sap. And yes, my inner 12 year old is squeeing to the rafters.

I think Buffy was the first show I really really loved. I've never been much of a TV watcher (all the shows I love number on the fingers of one hand. Well, if one had 6 fingers, that is), and never before did I actually bother to remember when a show was on, anticipate it, look for spoilers, and engage in other fannish activity. Never before did I actually "ship" for the characters, either. Perhaps it would have been better if I didn't, as everyone knows how every ship on that show turned out.

But, hey, Buffy/Angel were probably my first ship and I fell hard. All that doomed love and angst was just slurped by yours truly. And of course, my other ship of choice for BTVS was Willow/Oz. Because I am a glutton for punishment.

So here are some Buffy/Angel pics, Willow/Oz pics, and Spike/Buffy pics (because even though I am not Spuffy shipper, they were pretty hot, and hey, being a Buffy/Angel OR Buffy/Spike shipper ended up being equally futile, in Joss world of "all ships are doooooooomed" :P).

My favorite B/A pic:

Take out SMG and replace her with me, and that's a private fantasy right there:

Dancing at the Prom. I bet she had the oldest date there:

I wish I had a personal trainer that devoted:

He might be undead, but isn't she worried about sniffles?

Where are his hands, precisely?

Take off your shirt! Now!

Angel channels Aaron Echolls:

Poor man, apparently the gypsy curse had an addendum: "may you never find shirts with buttons!"

Shmoop. Cute shmoop:

Mechanical arm. Awww, who can beat that as a gift!

How many couples do you know where it's the guy who fantasizes about weddings:

Chained up and shirtless? Joss, Season 7 is forgiven!

And at this rate, with the mouth thing, you are working off the bad karma of Season 6, too!

Lunch!

Surprise/Innocence. Best abstinence video ever made:

I wanna play in the snow too. Especially plastic, California snow:

That's not what *I* find in my kitchen:

And the gist of my ship. Angst. Angst with sharp pointy things:

"I will remember you" otherwise known as "Dangermousie bawls so much there is mold on the couch:"

BAWL!!!!!

Best pic ever:

So much awwww:

The sweetest nerds around:

*is dead from the cute overdose*

*loves*

In my denial land, they are totally reunited. So there:

Mmmmm:

Does being a vampire automatically give you better physique? Because look at Angel and then Spike. Da-yum!

Mmmmm, Part 2:

I love the fact that I never know what's going to pop up in your LJ. One day it's Russian novels, another day it's Georgette Heyer and now it's Buffy. I love Spike ....

I loved Angel until he became mopey and I have all of the Christoph Beck mp3s of the Buffy/Angel episodes - Becoming etc. Those were amazingly beautiful episodes ... and beautiful use of a Sarah McLachlan song before she became the song of choice for every single "Everybody Hurts" moment in every single movie/tv show. She's now been replaced by Norah Jones (erk) so now I find myself longing for the days of overplayed Sarah. Oops I'm digressing again.

I also loved Early Willow with Oz - they were the cutest couple ever..... As to Spike - I really loved him because he got all the best lines :D David Boreanaz had cool lines in the beginning - in "Welcome to the Hellmouth" he was so cool, but after he went angsty and broody, his idea of looking troubled always kind of looked .... constipated.

OK must leave now before I offend everybody......

And I shall cast ye off from my friendlist, into the gehenna of ff.net :P

I take it you preferred Angelus over Angel out of the two.

Re: snark. I don't know, for me it doesn't seem to be a criteria, when I look at my all time fave ships.

I mean, I have Logan/Veronica and Mal/Inara which are Snark Supreme. And my favorite ship ever is Crichton/Aeryn in which one person is fond of verbal gymnastics (John) and the woman is a pragmatic practical soldier who basically is either amused or rolls her eyes. And then I have two shmoopy, soulmate ships: Max/Liz from Roswell and Buffy/Angel. Basically, chemistry and angst are all my fave ships have in common.

That's like my least favorite scene of the whole series. It was just so *corny*. Buffy at its best/worst (depending on your POV) was kind of like a very cheesy fanfiction. Some people like me hate that. But I'm sure for a lot of people there was nothing better than seeing their pairing come to live like that.

My favorite Buffy/Angel moment/episode is the one where they get possessed by the spirits of the dead teacher and student. I also really loved "Does forever work for you?".

But they sure were gorgeous all around.

You know--I need the DVDs because I need to familiarize myself with episodes titles/events so that I can say, yeah, that's from season 3 Beauty & The Beast. I think because I came in so late, and because I watched them so quickly, I have no memory of the *cough* finer details of the show.

I loved Buffy/Angel as soon as I started watching. How can you beat eternal love? That's right, you can't.

But then, as the show progressed, I moved onto Buffy/Spike. I don't know how to say this without coming off as a cliche--but there's something dangerous about them that I like. They're that burning passion kind of love whereas Buffy/Angel are that schmoopy forever-type love. It's hard for me to articulate.

Yeah, both couples had very different vibes. I guess Buffy just likes her men MUCH MUCH older :P

I own S1-3 DVDs. The rest I've seen but don't have much desire to own (Highschool Buffy all the way, baby! :)), though if they sold "Once More With Feeling" separately, I'd buy it.

The angel dropping on his knees is definitely also one of my fave moments. But I have so many. seriously my favourite couple in anything (movies, tv shows etc). The chemistry and the writing was just top notch. I miss it!

I love spike/buffy and willow/oz a whole lot, as well.

Love the icon!

Oh yes, Buffy/Angel was seriously angsty and melodramatic and so doomed. Guuuh, how I loved that ship.

As to Willow/Oz, that break-up still pisses me off :P

Date: 2005-10-26 03:57 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ex-beautyof.livejournal.com
Yeah the willow/Oz break-up, i get teary eyed everytime I watch it.

I think one of the reasons why B/A is so big in my book, is that it had a bit of everything and that's also why I love tv ships is that you follow them in a long period of time. You don't do that with movies, only if its a trilogy and even then it isn't the same.

Love your icon. I loved Max/liz.

Its weird when I look at all the realtionships that I ship, they're all so different lol I guess it just comes down to chemistry :P

Damn! You certainly did cull out teh hot. Angel really was sexy back in the day.

As for men who fantasize about the wedding, that's my boyfriend. Seriously.

While it's true that Joss dooms all ships, at least in the case of B/A vs. B/S, that ambiguous ending does give fodder for both camps to happily post finale and Shanshu their favored vamp ad nauseum. That's certainly better than attacking one another (something I am never going to understand).

I think I have the opposite sitch to you in terms of Buffy shipping. I started watching during S5 and much of the appeal to me was the Spuffy. Then I went back and watched all the earlier eps and while I was invested in B/A while it was happening (and I like Angel and watched AtS), I never got over my Spuffy tendencies.

Heeee. Except there is a good argument that both Angel and Spike got it in the neck during Angel finale so Buffy will have to fall back on Riley *shudder*

That's certainly better than attacking one another (something I am never going to understand).

I basically lurked in Buffy fandom, because the ship wars were severly scary...

I think for a lot of people, their ship of choice ends up being what was the ship when they started watching. I started at the end of S2 and so Buffy/Angel was the ship of choice. I liked Spike and had fun watching him, but never became Spuffy.

Ship wars of all types of stupid. End of story.

I don't see how one person having a good time imagining whatever they want gets the way of someone else doing what they want in a fictional universe.

I have been known to switch ships before though...or not get invested until later.

Like Dawson's Creek (make fun of me not!) I watched from the beginning and was interested in the early pining but ended up Pacey/Joey all the way.

Yeah, ship wars are odd. I don't really care what someone else ships, unless they are TPTB and can actually influence the outcome :)

She picked Pacey (Score!).

I've never been involved in an "active" fandom so it'll be interesting to watch a show (VM) and actively ship a pairing while it's still happening.

I mean, I was full on shipping Buffy and Spike while the show was on but since I wasn't involved in fandom...it was just different. I was obsessed with BtVS but you don't know obsession until you team up with enabling like minded forces.

VM and Battlestar Galactica are the first really active and new fandoms I've been in: Buffy I stayed away because scary, Farscape I came to in Season 4, and Roswell and Firefly after they ended. So this is kinda fun!

Well, Logan is way taller than Veronica. And she does have a tazer and can outsmart the boy. Heh.

Let's see: Max/Liz: check
Buffy/Angel: check
Logan/Veronica: check
Mal/Inara: works too
John/Aeryn: the exception. I mean, he is taller and all, but there isn't the BA difference.

Logan is def taller. But he isn't huuuge :) I don't really see Mal as a big guy either.

But height difference is definitively neat, because it makes for some cute snuggle pictures.

But I always feel kinda sorry for the short girls, but I remember from experience the neckpains you can get from too much making out with a much taller guy. But that's what steps are there for, right?

Oh man, you have no idea how much I love you right now. Buffy/Angel was the best 'ship possibly ever. Definitely my second real 'ship (The honor of first goes back to when I was so young I still thought boys had cooties. Yep, that's right, Will Riker and Deanna Troi from TNG. Total geek right here.)

I squeed and fangirled so much through seasons 1-3, and then I Will Remember You. Ahhh. Angel in chains! Good stuff. Heck, I even was for Angelus/Buffy, because there was definitely some screwy chemistry there.

Oz/Willow. Oh man. I was so pissed when he left. So pissed. And then she was a lesbian suddenly (apparently bi doesn't exist in Jossverse.), and not even the chance of them getting back together anymore. Sadness. Did you notice in one of those picturse that his hair matches hers? Awwwww.

Ugh. Spike/Buffy. Ugh. I definitely enjoyed Spike/Drusilla more. Heck, even Spike/Willow was better. Blargh.

And bah to Joss for saying "No 'ships! HA!". Cruelness.

The "lesbian" thing still makes me see red. How hard is it to use the word "bi?" Especially since that is what she clearly was (she was in love with Oz, had a crush on Xander for years etc etc). Don't get me started.

Buffy/Angel is just so dramatic. So much love. And of course "I will remember you" is just evil evil evil and I cried so hard...grrrrr.

Spike/Dru was lovely. So twisted and fun.

Sometimes, I will never understand what happened during Season Four. Least. Favorite. Season. Ever.

Buffy/Angel was pure angst, drama, and then the randomly sweetest moments ever imaginable. I think that s3 was best for that, especially when he came back from Hell (which she had sent him to) and she was torn to keep away from him or to stay with him. Ahhhh I love that season.

Twisted and fun and somehow devoted. Well, on Spike's end. I never understood that crazy unending devotion he had for her. For someone without a soul (until they decided it'd be fun to make another pseudo-Angel), he sure was crazy in love with her.

Heh. You mean you didn't *gasp* like Riley? Or the sudden lesbianism of Willow? How odd :P

Buffy/Angel was pure angst, drama, and then the randomly sweetest moments ever imaginable.

Oh yes. Plus, the OTT sap in me loves that his last word before going to hell dimension was "Buffy" and so was his first one on coming back. The boy was fixated. I think it's because so much of his personality was worn down to nothing because of his post-soul issues, he used Buffy to fill up the holes and cracks.

Season 3 was fab. I love how she tried to hide him from the Scoobies and help him heal and they had this attraction that they knew could go nowhere and the angst is just...

It's funny, because DB is not the best actor to end the universe, and Angel was already starting out from "depressed" but it's startling how much more quiet and withdrawn and hesitant he is in S3 compared to pre-Angelus S2 where he is a lot more out of the shell...

*sigh* Guuh, I miss B/A badly.

*sigh* Guuh, I miss B/A badly.

Me as well. I rewatched one of my favorite episodes, "I Only Have Eyes For You." Oh. My. Gawd. The angst with it being Angelus, then the sweet moment at the end where they're kissing... Then she whispers his name and he freaks and runs. Aahh.

So. Good.

Season Three also had Faith. You forgot to mention that. Faith is awesomely wicked. Probably the best "villian" they've ever had, aside from Angelus & Co.

There was also "Graduation Part 1 & 2." One of my favorite scenes from the whole show is where she forces him to drink her blood to save his life. Guh. And then when she nearly dies and he's freaking. Ooohhhh love.

Sigh.

Date: 2005-10-27 05:38 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Oh yes, the scene in Graduation is just...guuuuuh. And then of course everyone blames Angel (again). I also love that she was definitely getting it on with the biting. :Theirloveissotwisted:

In Graduation, it kills me when he is delirious and he begs her to stay and tells her he was wrong, but it's not her by his bedside but Willow (guuuuh, wish Willow told Buffy about it). Because the break-up? Drives. Me. Insane.

Faith was great. Loved the Mayor even more though. Fave villain ever.

IOHEFY is so good, with Buffy projecting her issues onto the ghosts. Plus, it gave us some B/A lovin' in the middle of Angelus' carnage.

Poor Angel. Always being blamed, particularly by Xander. If there is one thing I can say I liked about the later seasons, it's that Xander became less of an insecure little twit. Because really.

Man, now why is it that Buffy's friends fail to tell her important things regarding Angel? Seriously. Worst. Friends. Ever.

The Mayor was amuuusssiinnggggggg. And brainwashy. I like this brainwashyness.

Buffy was so having an intense orgasm with that scene. And the censors did nothing. HA! Take that FCC loonies!

*sighs* Very nice pics... B/A was the sweetest thing. With Ross/Rachel it was my first real ship. I shipped them like mad and I never got around to like Spike/Buffy. I tolerated, that was all. And don't get me started on Will/Oz. ;) Season 3 was up there with Season 2. It started to go downhill with Season 4 but the worst is probably Season 6. Or maybe I'm too biased because of my dislike of Spuffy. :P

As for the height thing, heh, Anakin/Padmé even though they're no TV ship, fit too. How curious. ;)

Oh yeah, forgot about A/P with the height thing...I think it's the cavewoman in me, that concidered mate compatibility based on how many mammoth skins they could bring to the cave and how many lions they could fell with a club. Heh.

Season 6...hmmm, I liked the early, early eps, but the last good one was (IMO) "Tabula Rasa." Season 7 I hated with a passion even though I did squee at the Buffy/Angel kissage. me=hopeless fangirl.

Hey, nothing wrong with the height thing. "Beauty and the Beast", anyone? ;) Season 6 had solid episodes at the beginning. I was watching the first one the other day and call me a sap, but Dawn and Buffy made me tear up... Season 7 was acceptable but nowhere near the others and don't get me started on Spike ending up being another pseudo-Angel. *grumbles* But hey, my inner B/A fangirl was squeeing at that last episode too. See, the problem of Spike/Buffy was that it completely went against the already established Angel/Buffy mythology. It never made much sense to me. I loved Spike, but not so much with Buffy. Spike was a big softy in and of himself and Buffy used him. There's a machocistic quality to him (Angel was more sadistic) that made their relationship rather uncomfortable to watch . Spike and Dru on the other hand, were just so messed up they were fun to watch. It was also fun to see characters that were so BAD that still cared about each other.

And I'm gonna have to agree with the David Boreanaz looking constipated comment. He did. Also, once he got on to Angel the Series he seems to have decided to fight the forces of evil by eating all their Krispy Kremes. No more skinny Angel.
