dangermousie: (Handsome Siblings Nic by meganbmoore)

1. A hugely epic adapation of the Chinese classic The Water Margin is coming out later this year/early 2011. I am not familiar with the source book, but the trailer makes it look part-wuxia and part-Lord of the Rings. And how could anyone go wrong with that?

2. Not like I needed it to get stoked, but there is also a longer, 15 min trailer for Fight and Love with a Terracotta Warrior. Both this and Water Margin star Ady An? Coincidence? I think not, more likely proof of her awesomeness. I want to watch this so badly I can almost taste it.

3. Last but not least, my penultimate wuxia crush Nic Tse (sorry, Nic, but Hu Ge is my N1) has a new drama coming out - Sword Heroes' Fate. The plot: Nicholas Tse plays the part of Zhao Xiao Zhao and Charlene Choi plays the part of Xiao Ye Zi. The two play fiancees in modern day, but the two are separated by time and space and cannot stay together. Nicholas Tse has no choice but to give up his reality, enter the Tang dynasty years, duel with experts at every step of the way, in order to obtain the "Nine Day Mysterious Jade," and reunite with his fiancee.

Charlene Choi is Nicholas Tse's sweetheart, and as the Tang dynasty's gentle and soft number one beauty. Afterwards, due to a misunderstanding that arises with Zhao Xiao Zhao, she accidently becomes a member of an evil cult, masters of a unique martial arts. But deep in her heart, she stil loves Zhao Xiao Zhao.

LOL - this sounds fantastically entertaining.

I will be very entertained :P

OMO, 2010-2011 is the pinnacle of the drama adaptation of the Chinese 4 Classics (the four most famous books in thousands of years of Chinese literature):

The Water Margin
Dream of the Red Chamber
Three Kingdoms
Journey to the West

I'm glad you've got some new historical dramas to look forward to! Plus, I'm doing a post that's going to be calling your name. Hee.

I am very excited for all 4 and hope they will have subs. Please please please drama gods!

Not as excited as I am for Terracotta Warrior because I am a little unhealthily obsessed about it already.

Oooh, now I am curious about the post.

Btw, saw your post on trailers for Secret Garden and eeeeeek - the vibe is not really my thing. You know me, all for epic and angsty :)

I was stoked by these 4 since in production: and was looking forward 2 water margin the most.

three kingdoms: easily best Cdrama last yr, I'm nowhere near done w/ the 95 eps. It's great 2 see the best of the lesser known for us, classically trained C thespians at work. The CaoCao is AMAZING!

journey to the west: horrid, horrid CG, and much overused. producer ZJZ always messes w/ my sanity.

Red Chamber is interesting, I'm intrigued by the weird art direction, it's very 'Chinese goth' if there's such. I like the air of doom the cinematography and score created, befitting the novel which I'm ambivalent w/ and the romance never grips me. Needless to say it's a general big hate 4 lovers of the classic itself.

I plan to get to Three Kingdoms - need to see if it has subs. Journey to the West is not something I can really see as liveaction anyway Saiyuki will always be my JttW, which is blasphemy, I know.

I have not been able to find Red Chamber with subs anywhere yet, alas.

Water Margin looks amazing, at least if the trailer is anything to go by. Any idea when it's coming out? I couldn't find any info.

I can feel myself getting sucked in deeper and deeper into the irresistable monster that is period/wuxia cdramas and it's horrid because subs are so hard to find (I don't even know if my new obsession, Terraotta Warrior, will have subs). Time to learn Mandarin!

we should see it popping out at the usual places early next yr. :) officially, nationwide in China not until October. Funny thing w/ Cdramas... they have pirated ver. out b4 it's even aired!

yeah 3 Kingdom is totally a time sink for me since I do need full focus and at times reading up stuff.

The trailers aren't out yet for Shangri-La, but here's a BTS vid with Hu Ge and a few snippets from the drama

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjA5ODU5MzMy.html

HG mentioned that this was the first time he was sad making the drama cuz usually he plays happier characters so he's about to be cheery. But this was a heavy role to play. I thought The Myth was like uber-depressing? And HG was happy making that?

Now I'm worried about Shangri-La.

Oooooh, thank you.

The Myth has the dystinction of being one of the only two dramas to make me literally have hysterics, so there is that. Still, the first half is relatively ligh until all the torture and death starts.

OK, now I am officially worried about Shangri-La's angst quotient.

LOL Nic Tse and Charlene Choi again? I still remember the hilarious mess that was A Chinese Tall Story.

I saw her in Calling for Love and she was atrocious. OTOH, I liked the Twins' Effect movie and, tbh, as long as the drama gives me pretty pretty Nic Tse fighting things, I don't even care what CC does.

Luckily no one watches anything from the Twins and expects singing or acting talent, and hey, maybe we'll get lucky and she won't get too many lines since she's supposed to be a "gentle and soft beauty."

In HK, most people's reactions to Nic Tse and anything he does used to be an amused "LOL", but I think age agrees with him and he really doesn't seem that bad anymore. And I don't really think anyone cares as long as he looks good :P

I don't think he's a great actor or anything but he sure looks great wielding that sword :P

Those dramas seem to be indeed epic... BUT it's also those kind of tales where everybody is going to die..........specially the good ones! Emma, frustrated. (Hu Ge, HU GE, HUUUUUUGEEEEEEE............ Such a beautifuuuul guy! Why is he Chinese, why am I NOT Chinese? Why don't we live next door from each other, WHYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!) I think he is my favorite actor right now... To bad he's doing mostly sad ending dramas... But he is a great singer too. And he DOESN'T die at the end of the songs!
