Linked by [livejournal.com profile] bluviolet, I confess this song does sound lovely and they are not wearing spangles or grabbing each other and seem to be able to really sing.

I am not checking out any more because I know how idol groups operate - I am sure I will find spangles and groping sooner than later. But I confess this was all really nice. (I seem to like Korean singers better when they go to Japan - I love Kim Jung Hoon's Japanese stuff better than his Korean one).

Also, I sort of cannot tell any of them apart except for Jaejoong who is the sole instance I have ever seen a real live human being look like an anime character. It's kinda unreal:

(stolen from omona)

Isn't he supposed to be in Poseidon? I really liked him in Sunao ni Narenakute - it probably helped that by the end of the drama his wasn't the only character I wanted to kill.

The wank in that fandom is EPIC right now. DBSK has (or had?) the best and worst fans I've ever seen.

From my admittedly limited exposure to them, aren't all Asian pop fandom insane? I still remember SuJu fans trying to buy shares and boycott the group when they added members. And weren't the DBSK fangirls the ones which drove some girl to kill herself because she got a hug from one of the band members?

Ooops, looked it up and I am maligning them. It was SuJu fans who drove a girl to suicide.

It's very likely. The one incident I remember is when some crazy anti-fan actually POISONED Yunho's water somehow.

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Oh, that was Yunho? I remember seeing something about an idol getting poisoned on the news - what, she was upset he wasn't shirtless enough ot something? And didn't some lunatic throw something acid-type at Yoon Eun Hye when she was in an idol band so she has problems seeing in one eye?

There's fans and then there is this.

Btw, I double-checked, and it wasn't DBSK fans that drove a girl to suicide, it was SuJu's. Eeeeeeek either way.

Yup. From wikipedia: "Yoon was often the prey of anti-fans. One infamous incident was during her debut year, she was shot in the eye by an anti-fan who tried to make her blind with a mixture of soy sauce and vinegar using a water gun. She was rushed to the hospital where the doctors confirmed that her cornea was damaged.[2]"

Mostly Kpop fandom -- or at least that's the fandom that gets the most exposure for being insane. From my experience, Cpop fans are relatively tame, but it's not like I've done extensive research in this area... haha.

Be careful of what you say. XD their fans are so radical that if you make a teeny tiny bad remark about them you will endure the HATE MAIL OF HELL!

I also took a long time to distinguish them. I'm not much of a fan... they're just eyecandy. I like the "Wrong Number" song tho.

they're my first fandom, starting at the grand old age of 25. i'd never been and will never again be this devoted to a celebrity ever again. In any incarnation, I'd take them.

They're my third serious ("") fandom. My first was *Nsync, and the enablers who hooked me on DBSK were fans I'd known from the *Nsync fandom, so not-so-deep down I always expected DBSK to disband in a few years' time, as *Nsync had.

But I never thought they'd implode on such all-out ugly terms. It hit me pretty hard, to be honest. Thank heaven I've picked up two new fandoms since then, lol.

I'm glad at least you saw that amazing live perf of Bolero! I kind of hate the idol group label on DBSK - unlike most other idol groups, they actually can sing and DO sing a whole lot of ballads. Quite a lot of well-respected Korean singers like K.Will have come out and said that people need to look past that "boyband" label when it comes to DBSK.

I dunno about Poseidon; news still haven't been confirmed and JYJ's currently on tour and would likely be still on tour over the next few months or so, so I'm not sure whether Jaejoong would even have time to film Poseidon.

They do seem to have amazing voices and do well acapella - I admit I spent part of my time watching the vids being boggled at Sun Joon and the rest having quite a set of pipes on them :P I've listened to a few JE groups and whatever JE boys were picked for, it was not singing skills.

Re: Poseidon. But they haven't even cast the lead for that one yet, despite rumors of Jang Hyuk taking it on. So I don't even know when it's going to start filming.

Whether he is in this drama or not, though, I hope he will be in some decent drama soon. I admit I may be blinded by his freakishly perfect looks, but I thought he did a very good job in Sunao Ni Trainwreck and I want to see him in a drama that is actually good.

I've been into them for years and I still boggle at their amazing voices :P Particularly Jaejoong and Junsu, both of whom just make me STARE whenever I watch that bridge part in the Bolero live. SM definitely picked these five for their singing and dancing; they started off in separate little trainee units with the boys from Super Junior, and SM picked Jaejoong/Changmin/Junsu/Yunho as the best ones and threw them into a group. Sun Joon was shipped in straight from America, LOL.

Ugh, don't even go into JE. I used to be into them in my early teens and tbh, I'm embarrassed whenever I remember it. The system there is to push them out when they're tiny tots of 9-12, and the popular ones get debuted regardless of whether they can sing a note or dance.

Poseidon - Hmm, true. But I heard they were aiming for Jan 2011, which is why it'd be tight for Jaejoong to appear in it. They always cut it close with these drama productions; sometimes they cast leads just a few weeks ahead and start filming like crazy, so it wouldn't surprise me if we don't hear anything 100% solid until around Dec.

Not just decent drama, I'm fingers crossed he'll be in a decent KOREAN drama, preferably with good ratings as well. I think he deserves it and nothing would be better to watch Jaejoong in than a good Korean drama, where he can be appreciated by an audience that would probably care about his efforts more.

Sun Joon was shipped in straight from America, LOL.

Now I am imagining him coming over in a crate marked 'fragile.' LOLOLOL

I never was into JE but a fair portion of my flist was at one time so I checked out some stuff to see what the fuss was all about. Good Lord - they could not sing and most of them could not dance. They could wear leopard print and grope each other on stage excellently, but if I wanted that, I am old enough to be let into a gay stripclub :P (I also have major issues with how JE controls/manages/warps their idols, but that's another matter. All those agencies sound horrible, but JE sounds 'special.')

Re: Poseidon. January? That's kind of crazy. I mean, it works for a small drama like Oh My Lady or whatever, but that sounds like it would require a lot of pre-shooting and maybe foreign location shoots, as with all big action dramas (a la IRIS, Athena, Swallow the Sun, Fugitive, etc). They better get on it asap then.

Either way, I agree with you, I hope Jaejoong gets to act in a good Korean drama. I was watching SnN and thinking he was totally wasted there (though to be fair, so was the rest of the cast).

LOLOLLL fragile.

He is a little bit fragile compared to the other four members of DBSK, funnily enough; all the others, particularly Jaejoong (surprisingly, considering his face), is fairly muscular. Park Min Young said during an interview that in the scene where Sun Joon took all his clothes off while he was drunk, the director commented, "...Didn't you work out during your activites with DBSK? At all? D:" And Song Joong Ki suggested that Sun Joon should have a bed scene if the ratings aren't good, but then retracted the statement when he remembered Sun Joon's skinny body, saying the ratings would probably fall instead. LOLLL.

Re: JE, don't forget the feathered boas and shiny, sequined suits! That stuff can damage your mind forever, seriously. Thankfully Korean boybands at least prefer to go for a more manly image - people seem to be into muscular, MALE guys. With JE, the more feminine you look, the better.

They could probably keep Poseidon mostly within Korea, since it's about marines or something. I'm trying to imagine what Jaejoong would look like as a marine, but all I can imagine is Lee Jun Ki in army gear running around.

Date: 2010-10-15 06:22 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Bwa! I remember thinking when he was shirtless in SKKS that while he looked fit enough (i.e. no blobs of fat or anything LOL), he certainly didn't look in a posession of a six-pack. Which is OK by me :)

Jaejoong as a Marine? *Error, system overload, does not compute, mind explode*

Well, he definitely hasn't got an ounce of fat on him, but not much in the way of muscles either. He's definitely on the skinny side of things, and I suppose these days people expect idols to be muscly (think BEAST Ki Kwang or 2PM Taecyeon), so the director was left baffled when Yoochun stripped and a beanpole emerged, LOLL.

Lee Jun Ki managing to look hot in his army pictures despite that pretty face of his gives me hope that Jaejoong can pull off the look too :D Though I don't think I'll be able to bend my mind around the idea of Jaejoong with SHORT CROPPED HAIR. I mean, whut.

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
I don't mind lack of six-pack (I prefer it to when it looks like their muscles got muscles of their own) but I loled a long time at the director's shock.

LJK looked quite manly in Dog/Wolf too. Mmmmm.

This entire thread is hilarious. I didn't know about SJK and the director's comments. Hahahaha =) Junsu is so strong looking too. Ah, Micky I swear. I'll take him just the way he is.

Oh JE. When I was hard core into Hanadan and Hana Kimi and watching anything with Matsujun, Oguri and Ikuta, I got into Arashi. Yeah, Matsujun can't sing. =( He's so cute like an elf though. But of Arashi, I ended up really like Nino, Ohno and Sho. Still, I can't watch their concert clips. I saw one and the costumes were enough to turn me off for a spell. I keep with their PVs and it's usually good.

Speaking of fragile, dang Matsujun.

I bet I could dropkick Matsujun and I am a tiny woman. I found all his fights in Hanadan hilarious for that reason (seriously, at least in most kdramas guys who fight look like they could take you out).

Arashi's probably the most likeable, talented group that's still fairly active in JE right now. Then again, that's not hard when they're up against NEWS and KAT-TUN :P Out of Arashi, I probably like Ohno and Sho best.

Singing and dancing aside, Matsujun can act, but I'm totally with Mousie when she says she can probably dropkick Matsujun. In a battle between Matsujun and a foetus, I'd bet on the foetus. That's probably why I couldn't get rabid about the couple in Hanadan, LOL. Makino looks tougher than Matsujun, man.

I'm glad you liked it! Yes, the DBSK members do impress me with their voices. I listen to other kpop bands more (the songs are catchy! I can't help it!) but I do admit that DBSK has some of the best trained singers, especially for mainstream music. The only two songs I really listen to by DBSK are Love in the Ice and Insa--I have a thing for slow, simple ballads if they're done well.

I had this stage where I watched a lot of the DBSK videos--all of the little TV drama shorts (Oh my goodness, Dangerous Love made me laugh so hard. It actually poked fun at all of the slash fanfiction/stereotypical kdrama romance scenes. The BTS for that was really funny, too, because the band members could barely get their lines out without laughing) and
interviews. What really struck me was how nice DBSK seemed--the members just acted really down to earth and unpretentious.

Thanks for the link to Bolero. I forgot about that song and it's kind of growing on me now :). *presses youtube play button again*

I only like ballads in Asian pop. The other songs automatically lose me for some reason. Probably because I grew up in a culture where ballads were most popular and singers didn't really dance on the stage.

DBSK isn't all that bad for an idol group- their concepts are usually pretty low key since they're touted as a vocal group above all, a couple unfortunate concepts (avoid the video "Balloons" + "Triangle" at all costs if you want to be able to watch Sunjoon or Doctor with a straight face ever again) but at least nobody's wearing sparkly blazers and giant pink feather boas on a general basis like some JE groups do. xD

And omg, that gif. How is he even human? What's funnier is that apparently he's bff with Hyunjoong, the other anime character lookalike- LOL birds of a feather much?
