[livejournal.com profile] algelic posted a link to this trailer for Beastly, a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast starring (1) the girl from High School Musical, (2) some pretty blond guy who transforms into a cross between an Orc and a member of Aryan Nation, (3) a grown-up Olsen twin as a witch (finally, the truth revealed!).

I am so there. I love emo teen movies - they always crack me up with their "OMG I am 17 and my life is ooooooooover" attitude. Hah. Though if witchy is so powerful, shouldn't she be going after terrorists, murderers and evil dictators - there have GOT to be more productive targets for a well-placed curse than a self-absorbed teenage boy.

Anyway, pretty pretty trailer.

Wow, way to give away the whole story in the trailer, movie people! :-P It does look pretty, though, and like they stayed very close to the book. I'll definitely be seeing this.

Everyone knows the story of B&tB anyway, so they don't have much to give away :)

Yeee I am so looking forward to this one! It was supposed to be released this year, apparently, but then the release date conflicted with Zac Efron's movie, so it got pushed all the way to next year -- so far back that the movie Alex Pettyfer (the pretty blond guy) is working on now will be released before Beastly.

Which is laaaame, but at least it still gets a theater run. Can't wait to see Alex on the big screen. ♥ Although he doesn't stay pretty for long, but oh well, can't have everything. :D

Ehhh, minus lack of hair, he looks OK even after transformation :)

Heh, I admit that half the reason I find him pretty is because he has gorgeous hair, so it's sad to see him bald. *o* But yeah, even without the hair, he looks okay. He has great bone structure.

Aren't teenagers much more fun to toy with than terrorists? XD a pimple will make them beg for a quick death, while terrorists are much harder to break.

Finally a teen movie that can pull me in... maybe.

Too true. All that self-obsession.

Neil Patrick Harris! The movie doesn't seem so bad. At least Vanessa Anne Hudgens' acting got better. It looks cute.

Are we supposed to find him ugly now?.. Cause it's not working on me. xD

MTE! He just looks like a dude who got lost in a tattoo/piercing shop!

Agreed. Weird-looking? Yes. Ugly, no way. But I suppose they would lose all the marketability if they made him so.

Pah. He's not ugly. Was the beast make up too expensive or something? He's really a beast in the book.

Yeah, but they want teen girls to buy tickets - and they probably don't want to see their leading man all furry.

The book's actually really enjoyable, particularly for a YA novel. It's one of the few I've read that's in the boy's POV, which is a nice touch.

Aw, that actually looked cute although I thought the book was so-so.

Neil Patrick Harris, though! Could've been cooler if they'd chosen someone more badass than an Olsen for the witch though. Oh well, teen movies are her thing anyway.

This movie's like Harry Potter HBP all over again...so PISSED OFF about the push-back!

I think I saw this trailer last year...or very early this year. I was so excited for it, thinking that this is the perfect treat for the summer. Well guess what, we have to wait until next year March. *rolleyes Let's keep our fingers crossed it won't be postponed again.

kitsune, thanks for letting me know that there is a book!!! Can't wait to get it tomorrow!

Why did they postpone it?

Well, it was supposed to be out in July 2010, same time as the movie Charlie St. Cloud.

But that movie's lead is Zac Efron...Vannessa Hudgen's bf...I guess they don't want any conflict.

But.. but... where's the awesome furry beast? *sniff*
Looks fun, though, so maybe I'll give it a shot. :)

Heh. They probably didn't want to make him too ugly.

I actually think this is more ugly than a fluffy, furry beast :D

I'm ashamed to admit that I've seen HSM (Although I freely admit that I watched 17 Again numerous times) but didn't Efron's character build a green house or something for that chick too? lol.
