Is anyone else on my f-list a fan of Say Anything?

It's probably one of my two favorite teen movies (the other one is "The Breakfast Club") and definitely one of my favorite romances.

I love the fact that the plot is so simple: a rather laid-back, no plans for the future Lloyd Dobler asks out the school Valeditorian, Diane, who is a good and pretty girl, very close to her father, but doesn't really connect or have fun. Basically, the movie charts their relationship over the summer. It's low-key, and feels so real, and I dare anyone not to fall in love with it. And I love what it has to say about men and women (Diane is clearly the workaholic one and Lloyd the caretaker, and the movie is totally fine with it).

And there are bits in it that make me cry. "I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen." Sniffle, sob, bawl...

And because I was talking about Lady Jane earlier:

Oh yes. Of all the movies I've seen him in, Lloyd Dobler is by far my favorite character...

(I hope you don't get sick of me posting on your lj) :)

I adore this film. It's one of my all-time faves, and never fails to move me. I love that Lloyd Dobler is so unapologetic about who he is, and he never compromises his integrity. It's nice to see a film that doesn't have a guy (or a girl) try to or need to reinvent themselves to be with the person they care about.

I'd never get sick of people posting in my lj. It's a lovely ego boost :P

Yes. I love that he never feels guilty about the fact that he is not an alpha, go-getter. He wants to be with Diane, and it's his goal, and he doesn't see anything odd about it (it's usually Ok for women to be that way, but not for men), but he is in no way a weakling.

And Diane is not someone who needs a make-over either. She is good the way she is.

Oh! Me! Me! I think my perceptions of what constituted a good man were shaped by that movie.

A-ha...now we find the common thread that connects your flist; we all LOVE this movie! LOL. It's one of those movies that I still remember the first time I saw it. It was late at night, I was over my grandma's and my uncle had rented it. He fell asleep. I sat clutching my pillow and bawling my eyes out.

*sighs happily* Good times. Yes.

LOL, indeed.

I have such a thing for mature, responsible, passionate men, and this movie just hit that kink perfectly. Sigh...

I love the ending!

But my favorite scene? When she comes back to him and he asks her, "Do you need somebody? Or do you need me?" And then he says he doesn't care and she says it's because she needs him. Guuuuh, I am tearing up just thinking about it...

Yes! Me too. I think subconsciously, I've been writing different versions of this scene in all my stories, because it just flat does it for me. It's such a telling and perfect moment. We should all have some Lloyd in our lives. *g*

I loved that movie. I will say that as a therapist, the Breakfast Club is considered almost Canon in terms of understanding group dynamics. I mean, really. It has academic uses.

The only downside is that most guys from then on thought that blasting Peter Gabriel was the golden path to a woman's vagina.

Random commenting, but I ADORE this movie. For serious. I only just saw it all the way through last Christmas, but it's now one of my favorite movies ever. I honestly think that any self-respecting girl is looking for some version of Lloyd Dobler for herself (me included). And I'm so much like Diane in some ways, it's not even funny.

So, yeah. Fantastic movie. (Although I must say that I fell in love with John when I saw Better Off Dead as a kid, and the love is still there. John Cusack and me, we have a lifelong thing going. :-p)

Not liking Say Anything is like, I don't know, killing puppies. It's just so wrong. I mean, it's John Cusack at his most charming!

*Falls in love with John Cusack all over again.*
