Because I am so obsessed with the possibly uncanonical ship of Tae Sung/Jae In, I decided to bring you MVs from some ships which started out uncanonical (or at least looked this way to me) but ended up being the main OTP.

I very rarely uncanon ship so perhaps that is why most of those uncanon-looking ships I have ended up canon - I don't swap loyalties without a LOT of canon evidence. If even I uncanon ship, these ships really must be something.

The 2001 Hallyu classic Beautiful Days. Originally, Choi Ji Woo's OTP was supposed to be the younger brother played by Ryu Si Won (bleh) - they even gave them the destined childhood meeting. Thankfully the makers saw the light and made an OTP for CJW with the workaholic, icy, wounded older brother played by Lee Byung Hun. Just as well as they became such a great OTP.

Dong Chul and Grace (Song Seung Heon and Lee Yeon Hee) from the sprawling 2008/9 hit East of Eden are in my Top 10 drama OTPs of all time, but they started out as totally uncanon. She was supposed to be a brief blip before his grand affair with Lee Da Hae's character. I was watching EoE as it aired and I fell for the combo of tormented gangster/fragile mob princess SO HARD. It was killing me they were not the end-game but I could not stop shipping them even if I tried. I was obsessed with them. Thankfully, I turned out to be one of many - this couple became very popular and got so many fans (including, of all people, Song Seung Heon, the star of EoE, who reportedly pulled behind-the-scenes strings to make them final canon), the producers ended up realizing what was good for them and made them the endgame and one of the most awesome OTPs out there.

I started out this year's awesome period drama Slave Hunters knowing I will ship Lee Da Hae's former slave with her former master/OTP Jang Hyuk. WRONG. I fell so headlong, so hard for her with the former general/now escaped slave Song Tae Ha, played by Oh Ji Ho. I shipped them so hard but I knew kdrama law - the man second in the credits never gets the girl. NEVER. I was so desperate watching this, thinking best case scenario would be they would love each other but then he'd die so she'd be free to be with Jang Hyuk. Wrong! My OTP became the drama's OTP and they ended up having happiness and hope. Oh, thank you thank you Chuno! Did I mention that Song tae Ha is my favorite male drama character ever? So perhaps I am biased.

I have not seen How to Meet a Perfect Neighbor yet, but I know the makers switched the OTPs making the secondary guy get the girl. Seeing that he's played by Park Shi Ho, I am all about it.

Something Happened in Bali is a weird beast which had two leading men, both about equally famous and So Ji Sub was before Jo In Sung in the credits - we know what that means. But I didn't care - I desperately wanted Ha Ji Won to love Jo In Sung's wounded, screwed-up rich boy. And I got very very lucky. She did. Not that it prevented Bali from being super-tragic, but at least I got my shipping, right?

Ahhh, Queen Seon Deok - I shipped Deokman with the brilliant, unstable Bidam as opposed to her announced canon OTP, the staid Yushin. But then - did anyone disagree with me there? I think not. Kim Nam Gil both shot to stardom and stole the show as Bidam, a character who was supposed to be a secondary antagonist and ended up being the leading man and the love of Deokman's life. Thank you, makers!

And here is the one which got away after all - Boys Over Flowers. To this day I ship Jandi with Ji Hoo - in fact they are a couple I really adore. The screenwriter adored them too - I am still convinced the only reason they did not end up together was because BOF was based on a very famous manga and was under contract not to radically change it. Because the writer loved Ji Hoo more than I did, if that was possible, and gave Jandi/Ji Hoo more shippy moments than Jandi and Jun Pyo, her canon OTP, ever had. As of the last ep, Jandi was still referring to Ji Hoo as her soulmate. In my personal canon, Jun Pyo pot killed in a tragic accident a few years after the drama ended and Ji Hoo and Jandi got together. You can't convince me otherwise.

I love uncanon shipping but i always end up going for couples that are very uncanon lol.

As for BOF i think, had it NOT been such a well-known story with set guidelines on what was supposed to happen, i probably would have maybe liked the Jandi/Ji Hoo a lot more. I mean, when i first watched HYD i was totally a Rui shipper but then the dorktastic Domyouji stole my heart.

Bali - lol i still haven't touched the last few episodes (ok, so i skimmed them) and yeah, JIS was crazy but gooooooood. Miles better than Zombie Eyes.

Bali - I went into it knowing nothing about either JIS or SJS and emerged as a mad fangirl for the latter and profoundly bored with the former.

I am normally a rabid Makino/Dm shipper but BOF was so screwy I found myself alternashipping instead.

I am marathoning Bad Guy and am on Episode 7 already....I cannot see how Jae In can end up with Gun Wook when she clearly has a thing for wounded wounded Tae Sung (not to mention they have way more chemistry!)...I need them to end up together....I find myself looking forward to the TS/JI scenes more than anything else! I turn into such mush for TS....can I comfort him now?!?!?!?! Not to mention he looks amazing in a white shirt....honestly why do guy bother with other clothes when they can just wear a crisp white shirt all the time! Nothing looks better! haha!

Also, you say that So Ji Sub has dead fish eyes.......I see it sometimes but that doesn't stop me from adoring him...actually I find that Kim Nam Gil sometimes has dead fish eyes too...hmmm...but luckily I can also overlook that...haha

I never EVER uncanon ship...(except possibly in Star Wars where I desperately wanted Padme to be with Obiwan instead of Anakin....because honestly why would anyone choose Hayden Christiansen over Ewan Mcgregor?!?! hahaha) BUT I really did in BoF, and did so from the outset. I mean, even in the manga and the other versions, I've always felt that Rui was sooo sweet and did all the things a bf would do...but ultimately it was Doumyouji who was the one because he had the passion and insane chemistry with Makino and because of all that they went through, they just had to be together....sigh, then I watched BoF and I just could not have it that way, in that version, it just had to be Jandi and Jihoo, and Jihoo really stepped up to be what I wanted Rui to be...hahaha

I am on ep 11 of BG and do not see any GW/JI myself - TS and JI are not only much more dramatically interesting, and have more shippy scenes, but the chemistry is very much there, when it's not there with GW/JI.

I almost never uncanon ship and then came BOF...Ugh, I have never forgiven the writer for that mess.

I am so very glad the OtPs switched in Beautiful Days and EoE:)

Perfect Neighbor is textbook for why the guy with the most issues should always be the hero - original main lead was not just rather ugly, but had ZERO issues beyond having a dead girlfriend who looked like Heroine. Which would ordinarily be enough, but it was never played out and by that time along had come Park Shi Hoo as an icy, emotionally closed-off, unloved rich guy with some serious daddy/family issues. Heroine becomes his secretary and father forthwith ends up the hospital leading to oodles of quirky banter/chemistry and hurt/comfort, respectively. I ended up dropping it because PSH's character was engaged and didn't break off the engagement for most of the drama and I hate cheating above all else no matter what the reason(this is why I dropped City Hall too). But it was enjoyable while it lasted and there's no doubt whatsoever they made the right decision.

To this day I ship Jandi with Ji Hoo - in fact they are a couple I really adore agreed!! they're just so, so adorable. Whenever I watch MVs of them I start madly shipping them again. As a secondary pair, they were OTP-status, and even as an OTP they're quite a powerful one, Jandi notwithstanding.

I wish more writers switched the OTPs when necessary - see BOF. That one still frustrates me!

Haha, I love all of them. I never knew that in Beautiful Day her initial OTP was the other brother. I must have been blind because to me there was only LBH. All I know was that she was suppose to die but because angry fans wrote letters to the company they let her live! YAY!

Jun Pyo pot killed in a tragic accident a few years after the drama ended and Ji Hoo and Jandi got together. You can't convince me otherwise.
LOL, I can totally imagine this happening. It was sad they didn't end it JH and JD, I think the fans would have been happier, I know I would have been. JH and JD need to fan a fan community here on LJ. I haven't found a good one yet.

Re: BD. Yes, that is why there was that thing with a watch and everything. They must have been insane. But I am glad they came to their senses - who could ever pick anyone else when LBH is around? And I know about them letting her live because of fanmail. I was so happy kdrama fans are so dedicated - it would have been just evil to have put them through all that hell and then kill her.

OMG, I was just about to make a post about non-canon shipping. I don't like it one bit to be honest. Heh.

You know, in HYD, I shipped Makino with Rui until the very end but at least in that version, I could see how/why she would go for Tsukasa instead. But Jun Pyo and Jandi? That will forever remain a big question mark in my book.

Ah non-canon shipping, how I hate it when I fall in love with a non-canon ship and know I'm doomed to disappointment. I was the same with Chuno. I knew she'd end up with Dae Gil and fought so so hard not to love Tae Ha but it happened anyway. I was unbelievably happy when they ended up together.

As for Boys Over Flowers I actually liked Jun Pyo so I can't really follow you there - even though I do think Jan Di and Ji Hoo would have been sweet. The couple I really loved for that show though was Yi Jeong and Ga Eul. I was very annoyed that I only got an almost kiss for them - but at least they ended up together so that's something.

Here's another one for you that is not kdrama but one that once it occured to me has refused to leave and that is Max and Alec of Dark Angel. I apologise to any Logan fans, but I just adored Alec and any scenes with him and Max together.

*sigh* I like it so much better when I can wholeheartedly ship the canon pairing.

I was a Max/Logan shipper to the bitter end but Alec was very very pretty :)

Wasn't he though ;P

Well done on sticking with Max/Logan to the bitter end - at least you got a somewhat happy ending. I was originally a great Max/Logan shipper and hated it when anyone suggested otherwise, but one day a friend of mine who was also a huge Max/Logan fan said she rewatched it and saw Max/Alec everywhere. So after much resistance I took the challenge, rewatched and couldn't help switching sides. I felt like I was betraying Logan in a big way, but now am completely happpy in my Max/Alec world.

So the moral of the story is, be very careful what shows you rewatch if you want to keep your fav couples in tact - especially because of challenges from friends LOL.
