As of today, there are six movies in the theater I want to see. When am I ever going to get the time? :)

(and non VM people breathe a sigh of relief):

Here they are in order of my wanting to see them:

1. Green Street Hooligans: A movie with Charlie Hunnam (drool, drool, drool) and Eljah Wood (fangirl squee) as football hooligans? Yes please. Plus, I love the poster in the metro station. And who says advertising doesn't work. Especially when said advertising is Charlie Hunnam (who should be forced to reproduce for the good of human race) and Elijah Wood (who I adore, even if it's in "give him soup and blankets" kinda way), looking all grimy, violent, and intense. I mean, it's Nicholas Nickleby and Frodo kicking ass!

2. Proof: I love the concept of it: a mathematician's daughter trying to deal with the fear of going insane, some love stuff, and oh yeah, a mathematical proof. It's such an intelligent play and I just want to see something that really makes me think and feel at the same time.

3. Elizabethtown: And speaking of Lord of the Rings alums. It's Orlando! With an American accent. The movie itself looks really nice and cute and funny, and hey, even if it sucks, the eye candy will compensate.

4. Wallace and Gromit: This is more of Husband's thing than mine, but how can you dislike claymation? Come on, it's like killing puppies.

5. Everything is Illuminated: Frodo searching for his Ukranian roots? Sounds good to me. Not good enough for me to have seen it for the couple of weeks it's already out, but still, on the see list. Any hope that his Ukranian roots will include the football hooligan Charlie Hunnam?

6. In Her Shoes: Not much interest in chick flicks, but I read the book and didn't hate it (didn't love it either) and it's playing right next door.

I think I'll move into a movie theater.

I want to see Wallace and Gromit and Domino. Unfortunately, Domino's not getting the greatest reviews, if the commuter paper is any indication.

Domino is only 15% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, which is yikes territory. I was mildly curious, but after that kind of reviews, I think I am staying awat.

Btw, I really wonder where Backup is this season? (icon)

I hope he comes back soon, is all I can say. Hasn't Cali instituted a pit bull ban? Maybe tptb are trying to think of a way to work it into the story.

I miss Backup but soon I will have a Backup tee, which makes me a) ridiculously happy and b) and enormous geek.

Someone on TWoP posited that Wallace's younger brother is out walking Backup permanenently :P

*snort*

I think one of the upcoming ep titles sounded like it might have a Backup-y connotation but I'm spoiler-clean and sober for all future eps, so I can't go back and look.

Is it wrong that I want to write VM fic? That can't be right.

It's totally right! (says the girl who wrote some herself). Go for it!

I've only seen Green Street of the ones you listed and I highly recommend it. Not sure how well the football hooligan thing will translate outside the UK, where it's a very relevant issue, but it's a great film nonetheless. I was particularly impressed with the way it didn't demonise nor condone the hooligans. It would have been far too easy to go down the 'football hooligans are all idiotic scum' route and it also would have been immensely distasteful to try and justify it, but the director manages to find a great balance.

Oh, and Charlie takes his shirt off. ;)

Yes, I've heard good things about the movie. The football hooligan issue isn't very relevant in the US (as far as I know) but I do know enough about the phenomenon to not be lost. And of course the exploration of violence is a pretty universal theme...

Oh, and Charlie takes his shirt off. ;)

Good thing I am seeing it tonight then :)

*raises hand* My friends have been harassing me to go see this all day and usually I will watch anything but Wallace and Gromit just leaves me cold. I don't mind watching a 20 minute slot at Christmas but a full film? Just no. Anyway, eventually they gave up and declared me dead inside. Oh well ;)

Hi by the way! I'm new around here *waves*

Hi back!

I've actually never seen a full-feature claymation movie. Let's see how it goes :)

Interesting list. I'm been trying to see Proof for the last two weeks at E St. after work, and the one day that I managed to get to the theater was the one day they weren't showing it for some private screening. I've read the play and loved it.

I also want to see Wallace & Gromit - I've been waiting for this film to come out for the last two years.

I'm curious about Green Street Hooligans, but it's getting mixed reviews. I love soccer and I'm well-aware of hooliganism, so it could be interesting. Thankfully, it's something that just doesn't exist in MLS.

My list of films is growing by the weekend. I don't know when I'll ever find time to see them all!

If you are interested, we could meet up sometime next week and see it together? As I don't think Husband is overly keen on it.

I am seeing it tonight, so I'll see how I like it. I've ended up loving some "indyish" movies that got some really mixed-up reviews (e.g. "I'll sleep when I am dead") and I do find the subject matter interesting, so hopefully it's good. Even if not, it's playing at Dupont, so a quick getaway is always possible :)

Green Street definitely goes on the rental list when it comes out. Charlie Hunnam indeed. Prettiest Nicholas Nickleby ever. And shirtless. Oy.

I don't know about Proof. I hate math and I'm not sure even Jake Gyllenhaal being all sweet and pretty can get it done for me.

Elizabethtown looks incredibly sweet. It's nice to see Orlando look like he's actually having fun acting instead of looking like he's about to stab something.

I kept getting distracted from the NN plot by the pretty. My watching largely went like this:

DM: Oh, Squeers is so evil. I hate him
Smike: Woe is me!
DM: Poor Smike, I want to mother him so badly. Somebody should help him. I think I feel a Deep Thought coming on, about class and deformity in Victorian England.
Charlie Hunnam: I SHALL HELP YOU!
DM: Class consiousness is prev...thought derailed...must...ogle...The Pretty
Charlie Hunnam: AND I SHALL TAKE OFF MY SHIRT!
DM: Whaaaa...my name is...? Guuuuh...

I totally agree on the last three, but add Domino and Good Night, and Good Luck to that list. :)

I have no time to see these either... Ugh.

I was initially interested in Domino but it's been getting such bad reviews, I am kinda less so now.

My reasons for not going to see "In Her Shoes":

1. Cameron Diaz. As the "sexy" one. Eh.

2. Toni Colette. Playing the "fat" sister who's "struggling with her weight."

Toni Colette.

Oh yeah, she's a porker all right. They didn't even have her gain any real weight for the movie; they just put her into baggy cardigans. If I had to see someone of Toni's size "struggling with weight" for an entire movie, and other people agreeing that she can stand to lose some weight, I would go crazy.

P.S. I suppose she is somewhat-significantly heavier than Cameron Diaz, but Diaz's extreme skinyness over the last few years is why I say "eh" to her being portrayed as sexy. Frankly, I find it uncomfortable to look at, not hot.

Come on, it's Hollywood. As in "the place that thought Jeanine Garofalo was fugly."

Realism? Heh.

Well, at least it's true that Jeanine Garofalo is no stunning beauty, or even conventionally pretty, even if she's all cute and hipsterish and quirkily attractive. But Toni Colette is in no way overweight.

Yes, but JG is way prettier than Uma Thurman who looks like a half-gutted fish.

I don't remember is Rose was supposed to be overweight in the book, or just frumpy. Frumpy I could buy.

I never could find either Uma Thurman or Gwenyth Paltrow to be all that attractive. Great actresses, yes, and prettier than normal people, sure, but if they didn't have all the makeup and beauty experts, I just don't think they'd be all that different looking from a normal house wife.

Amen to numbers 2 and 4. Actually, I think my math teacher is going to rent Proof for us later this year.
