Jar Jar must die
Mar. 20th, 2005 01:55 amOK, I have changed my opinion on Ep 2: I now totally love it: the romantic parts, the political parts, the fighting parts. Was visiting Julie and we rewatched bits (i.e. the fighting and the angst). All yummy, all good.
However, I finally saw Ep 1 in its entirety, and I can see why people were harsh on Lucas: Ep 1 is Not. Good. I think that's why people approached Ep. 2 in hypercritical mode even though Ep 2 is exponentially better than Ep 1. I was only able to tolerate Jar Jar on FF button. Having to deal with him in the theater would have driven me mad. Also, Jedis annoy me now, the inflexible supercilious bunch that they are. They didn't listen to Liam Neeson, which is a crime. Or should be.
However. Liam Neeson=Perfection. Argh, he died! He was so lovely and perfect and caring and absolutely my favorite character in Ep 1. Not to mention he was loving, warm and flexible and would have been a way better teacher for Anakin, ergo no Dark Lord. Grrrrr....Heresy, but couldn't they have killed Obi-Wan instead? or even better, wiped out the Gungans?
And surely, it's wrong to want to feed the future Dark Lord pie, tell him stories, and tuck him in with a warm blanket. Seriously, Jake Lloyd makes me want to have kids. Awwww. And he's got the biggest eyes I've ever seen outside of anime.
But Hayden Christensen is still more fun to look at. Hell of a lot more fun.
So my order of SW movies is
SW 2: attack of the clones
SW 5: empire strikes back
SW 6: return of the jedi
SW 4: a new hope
(after a big drop): SW 1: phantom menace
Die Jar Jar! I wish you were real, so I could kill you! I am afraid if Vader kills you in SW3, I'll be so happy, I'll forgive him everything.
Also, we watched Nicholas Nickleby which is based on one of my fave Dickens books (I've seen it before, she hasn't). Good as always, and I loved Nicholas' line "weakness is tiring, but strength? Strength is exhausting!"

Date: 2005-03-20 01:14 pm (UTC)Episode 6: ROTJ
Episode 5: ESB
Episode 1: TPM
Episode 2: AotC
Episode 4: ANH
Episode 3 looks like it'll be in my top three...also, they are all great, and are basically all number one on my movies list as one big chunk! :D
And Lucas made this Jar Jar maiming little side activity on the Episode 1 Encyclopedia for the computer. It's quite terrible! :P

Threepio: "Oh dear... I don't want any trouble..."
Bender: "Shut your pie-hole so I can beat you in peace and comfort!"

Date: 2005-03-21 02:36 am (UTC)But I don't have much tolerance for cutesy and for me Jar Jar and the Gungans really did ruin the movie (though I like how Lucas used Jar Jar in AotC). It really seemed like a children's flick. I prefer darker and edgier and angstier (at this rate RotS will turn out to be my fave). Of course, AotC only works so well because it had the APM events, just as it only works so well because of our foreknowledge of Anakin's path.
Re: Jedis. After seeing them in APM, even much more than in AotC, I agree with you why they aren't around any more. Any organization this moribund is bound for a fall. They lost so spectacularly because Anakin was so powerful and because Palpatine was so cunning, but with their attitude they were set for a fall sooner rather than later, regardless. The scene where they "test" Anakin was rather blood-boiling. It's a little kid. He's just lost his Mom. And he is right in front of you! Ugh.
Re: second coming. Agreed.
