Matt Roush of TV Guide on Veronica Mars
Oct. 7th, 2005 09:48 pmOK, it's now official. The two best shows currently on TV are airing opposite each other: ABC's fabulous Lost and UPN's remarkable Veronica Mars.
[...]
Ditto for Veronica Mars, which is as low on the ratings chart as Lost is high atop it. (Although by UPN's standards, it could be doing lots worse, considering.) As cult in its allure as Lost is mass in its appeal, Veronica is churning its own grief-drenched puzzles with confidence, wit and sharp emotional resonance.
The big mystery — who's responsible for sending the school bus over the cliff, and who were the intended victims (Veronica, we presume, but the list also includes everyone in the limo) — is fraught with intensity, and our heroine's first task was a good one: clearing the bus driver of suicide charges (not that the bonehead sheriff took notice). Also fun to see Wallace getting into Hardy Boys mode to impress the new girl.
And Logan! "FYI, if the cuddling's the best part, he didn't do it right." What a jerk he is to his ex-girlfriend. If he wasn't so tragic and adorable in his own right, you'd want to slug him. But you know it's true: Duncan simply doesn't make the earth move.
Dangermousie: heeeee

God I love that he writes that last line. And that Logan quote is I think my favorite line of the episode.

Date: 2005-10-08 02:23 pm (UTC)I don't mind them on the outs, if we get good snark out of it.
I do wonder if it's intended to be a contrast (clearly, they didn't show D/V sex not because of the censors as we got to see Logan and Kendall going at it): L/K all physical passion without any emotion involved, and D/V comfort and friendship but no passion at all. The sex scenes (or lack thereof) were certainly shot that way.
OK, now I am craving a Logan/Veronica sex scene. Dammit.

Date: 2005-10-08 02:43 pm (UTC)I've been craving a L/V sex scene for months...they will sizzle, of that I feel certain. There's a spark between them that is entirely absent with Donut. And they *would* have it all: emotional and physical passion (eventually, anyway, if they work things out).

Date: 2005-10-08 02:53 pm (UTC)Yup. When they were together in S1, you really felt as if they couldn't get enough of each other, they were giddy with it. Donut (heee, love that nick!) and Veronica have a friends with benefits vibe, if at all.

Man I'm a bitca.

Though I would cut the guy some slack. Showing any sign of emotions is...exhausting.

Date: 2005-10-08 01:04 pm (UTC)In conclusion, UPN and ABC make my head hurt.
Re: Rant.
Date: 2005-10-08 02:19 pm (UTC)I don't watch Lost (the only two shows I watch on regular basis are VM and BSG), but I do think the scheduling is bizarre....
Why would you pit anything unless you don't mind throwing it away against Lost?
Re: Rant.
Date: 2005-10-08 02:40 pm (UTC)I had the same reaction back in May when they announced the scheduling changes, because I watch both. I was furious, esp. since my DVR only records once program at a time. I've since worked out a doable solution...
The reason they made the move is because VM now follows America's Next Top Model, which is UPN's highest rated show. Putting it after that was a huge vote of confidence because they hoped that VM would at least KEEP the ANTM audience. It's only unfortunate that Lost happens to be on at the same time. I don't know how this week's VM did, but the season premiere pulled it's biggest audience ever.

Date: 2005-10-08 02:31 pm (UTC)Yes, please do find out about VM!
By the way, were you the one who I discussed the film version of RENT with a while back? If you'd like the soundtrack, it's here: http://s31.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3HS6NCRQU0TFD22OSAKNNKWILT
I don't know, I just feel like it was you for some reason. Even if it wasn't, the soundtrack is very good. Better than the Broadway version IMO, and I *never* say that! Of course, most of the cast is the same, and their voices have gotten even better with time. I know that was completely random. :)
