LOCH ep 11
May. 30th, 2010 10:14 amOh God, those awful obnoxious 'teachers' of Guo Jing appeared again. I thought we were rid of them forever. Every time I see them, I want to strangle them. Their reaction to seeing him (and he's all beaten up to hell) is go "why weren't you here earlier, who cares if you are majorly wounded, go practice, ugh ugh you suck." Stop picking on my Guo Jing, losers! He could kick the butt of all six of you put together. Ugh. Hate. Thankfully, Huang Rong agrees with me and sticks up for her guy and points out their lunacy.

I love that girl. I was cracking up right along with Guo Jing when she was all "I am going to protect you" but she isn't going to let anyone mess with him, LOL. Even if she is half his size - the scene where she kicked the crap out of Yang Kang because he beat up Guo Jing earlier (he's still in his Rebel Without A Cause phase and Guo Jing wouldn't fight back) - I love that scene to bits!

Well, look on the bright side, Yang Kang. You got some sexy forbidden stepsibling touching out of it.

But back to Huang Rong. Girl is FIERCE. Clearly, Guo Jing's transparent lies about what happened (I love how he tries to conceal what happened because he doesn't want her to go off, awwww) did not work. LOL.

How adorable ARE they? I love love that they are such a perfect match - he is the best fighter in this drama but he DOES need someone to protect him and take care of him because he is too kind and sweet - he'd put up with a lot and let people walk all over him because he loves them. So he needs the cynical, bright, fierce Huang Rong to watch over him. And she needs him to make her human.

I continue to adore Ouyang Ke. His mind games with Yang Kang (to get him to come back to the Jins) were not only clever, I agreed with him on a lot of it - I do believe the man who brought you up for 18 years, with love, is more of a father than one that just gave the biological material.

Freaking FINALLY! I was getting a bit fed-up with Yang Kang's acting out - I don't blame him and understand him but I didn't like that it was hurting Guo Jing and am glad YK is beginning to realize that Guo Jing really IS that good and he does mean what he says. (interesting parallel with Huang Rong. Guo Jing, winning the world through kindness :)) Yeah, he can't go back to his sneering after seeing Guo Jing almost die protecting him. Go be sworn brothers, dorks, like you are supposed to!

Sometimes I just want to take Guo Jing somewhere far away and protect him from the mean people and mean world - he is so emotionally open that it hurts sometimes (the whole scene where he didn't care about an audience and tried to get through to YK how lucky he is to meet his father because he, GJ, never would - ouch.)

Date: 2010-05-30 10:51 pm (UTC)It's really hard for us to assess how GJ would have reacted were he in YK's shoes. The issues is that GJ seems to see things in black and white. Jin people = bad bc they are invaders in the Song dynasty, and GJ and YK are Song citizens. So, personal feelings shouldn't matter to GJ, loyalty to country should come first. YK is a person who is TOO smart to buy into that hogwash, he seems things in grays and blues.
The characterizations in LoCH are worth pages and pages of dissection and discussion. It's so good! :-)
Oh, and OYK has mad chemistry with both HR and MNC in this version, bc he's also a uber-cool character construct (rather than a shifty, would-be rapist predator in the novel).

Date: 2010-05-31 12:50 am (UTC)I think GJ's head would have exploded in YK's circumstances - I don't think he could process anything complex like that. I mean, feelings are feelings, and knowing GJ he would have wholeheartedly bought into Jin=best if he was a Jin.
I do feel bad for him growing up with such a desire for a father. Awwww. (One of the few things he has in common with Yang Guo, actually).
YK's attitude and conflict feel very modern to me and I really love what Oyuang Ke brings up about the situation (even if he is motivated by self-interest). LOCH is just so meaty - not just gorgeous scenery and fights.
I love OK btw.
Re: GJ's personality
Date: 2010-05-31 01:03 am (UTC)My hubby, who never watched any version of LoCH or read the novels (hell, he doesn't watch dramas, period!), liked OYK and Wangyan Honglie best in this version (the few eps he watched with me).
He thought WYHL was a patriot, and OYK was a smart, resourceful guy. I loved hearing his input, bc I'm predisposed to not liking WYHL and OKY, but if I were to go into this version of LoCH without any baggage, I can see why their characters are way more likeable than supposed "good guys" like GJ's 7 doofasoid masters and the Taoist monks.
Even with my OYK baggage, I still loved this OYK, and that is 100% due to Li Jia's acting and portrayal.

Date: 2010-05-31 05:30 pm (UTC)You see, I've never read LOCH nor am I familiar with it at all and so without the book comparison, I love Honglie and OYK more than I do anyone in the story except the main four. And as for Honglie - just as Songs view it as patriotic to off Jins, I can't blame Honglie for thinking it's good to off Songs.
