It would be dark and delicious and angsty and she is such a good woman and he is such a not-good man and they have chemistry and the angst would be through the roof and she makes him loose his cool and she and he and YK could have the hottest threesome ever and I've forgotten my commas.



This was the scene where it hit me - I ship them. (Long complicated plotty things led to this - basically YK can't blow his cover and has to pretend to be like this but I wonder what he'd have done if OK really did take him at his word)















She makes him lose his cool and also save her from snakes (which he uses as weapons, don't ask) and - insert a 'gotta love a man who can take care of his snake' joke here.





And then I was checking later eps to see they dled and look what I saw OMG.

I shipped them to the max when I watched LOTCH. He's so twisted and bad...angst galore. Of course I shipped Niancy with YK too because they're also so very dark and twisted. In fact, I often skipped the scenes with the other couple to get to the angsty goodness. There's no hope for me.

Seeing your recaps makes me want to rewatch this. I lost all my LOTCH episodes (and they took forever to download too!) when my previous external hard-drive died on me and haven't had the courage to download them again.

But since I'm busy watching the D-Cut of Tamra these says (so good!), I think I can handle downloading this behemoth again and it'll be done without having to wait for it.

I have a confession - sometimes I ff through GJ/HR scenes too, to get to the angsty triangle goodness - I love the light and fun of the main otp but it's got nothing on the epic shakespearean tragedy of the other storyline (though as it gets darker and darker I actually find GJ/HR a relief).

You totally need to do that asap. There's tons of Park Kyu goodness that wasn't in the tv broadcast. Also, things are better explained, especially in the last episode (and I don't understand why they cut it in the first place because the additions are not long at all but explain so much).

I confess I ff through some of the Seorin subplot additions but I really liked the "Park Kyu Policeman Extraordinaire subplot". A lot of it was cut: how he became a police official, the way he conducted his investigation (the scenes with his subordinate are hillarious. We didn't get to see much of the guy in the TV version.).

And of course the Beojin/Par Kyu goodness is out of this world :o)

I finished watching last night (stayed up until 2 am and now it's not quite 8am and I'm at work. I look like a zombie) but I'll rewatch it asap.

EH ? OYK and MNC is odd. In the story their relationship was not like that ! Oh lala Dangermousie ! I think Ouyang Ke did not like the way Yang Kang treated the Prince when he left with his mother and his bio father. And he wants YK to suffer the consequences.

Oh dangermousie, the dangers of skipping ahead, mwahahahaha! Danger lurks around every corner as angst is amplified and more ships emerge. Actually, there aren't anymore. OYK in the novel was a lecher who wanted to rape and own HR and steal her daddy's kungfu skillz. All that was thrown out the window, I think, when the PD lucked out and cast fucking (pardon my french) Li Jia as OYK. You have Li Jia, he of the every subtle nuance is like a walk in the park acting skills, and you want him to play a one-note villian. Of course that is a giant waste of a grade-A steak.

So they made OYK neither outright good or bad, but very very opportunistic and cunning. And they gave him a heart and changed his backstory (a little). His relationship with MNC was completely fabricated but OMG if they weren't the second most heartbreaking "couple" in the drama.

Let me put it this way, if MNC hadn't already pledged her love to YK, there is no way she's not falling for OYK and moving to the Western Plains with him where he will love her to eternity and treat her right. Not to say YK won't do that either. More that MNC has so much hot, sexy, difficult men to choose from. Life's so not fair.

I saw some really interesting stuff skipping around - wow, YK/MN gets so very twisted.

That whole love triangle is just one incredible ball of pure angsty dark sexy goodness. I think she should alternate odd/even days.

But poor Nianci. She really would have been better off with someone less smart/hot/capable but much better adjusted than either YK or OYK.

Li Jia is amazing - I really must see if he has been in anything else I am interested in.

I know! LOCH is pretty unique in the incestuous/2 degree love lines, though. The others run on more polygamous ... uh, paths - the one with Alec Su as Zhang Wuji had, at one point, 5 different girls running after him. And in another one the protag ended up marrying all his gfs. So, like, 7 wives.

(I have a secret liking for Yang Guo and Guo Xiang in ROCH, actually. Chalk it down to chemistry!)

Conclusion: Jin Yong is nuts.

Either ROCj or Nic Tse's version of Handsome Siblings was my first wuxia so I think I've imprinted on the whole 'deadly fighter with major issues and a total OTP obsession' trope. Whenever I hear multiple gfs, I sort of lose interest in whichever drama.

Also, 7 wives? Does he keep a tracking calendar of whose fair turn it is?

A lot of them are OTP, but ancient China being what it was, I think a lot of that 'marry as many as you can' mentality leaks through. Makes for hilarity, I'll give them that.

... Yeah, I'm not sure about that one? I read the synopsis and ran really far in the other direction.

Oh, another Jin Yong masterpiece had the hero bumping into all these girls, each of whom he thinks is the OTP, until his dad meets their moms, and it's all like, 'In ancient China, half-sib incest finds YOU!'

Habitually, I imprint on female actresses rather than male, so I never care about the OTP as long as the character is happy and with someone who treats her well.

Re: Jin Yong with half-sibs. I remember reading about it, I think it was made into a Jimmy Lin drama and I was in my Jimmy Lin fixation phase. I think I have that one somewhere dled.

I usually imprint on actresses with kdramas (with some exceptions) and to a lesser degree with twdramas but in all the wuxia ones I've seen (not that I've seen dozens and dozens) I imprint on the guys - I think it's the long hair and swords that do it :) (In jdramas, if it's anyone, it's always the guys mainly because I find a lot of jdrama heroine tropes really irritating).

I like GJ/HR scenes - especially as the Yang Kang part of the storyline gets darker and darker, it would be unbearable for me not to have the GJ/HR storyline for lightness and hope.

I just finished the Director's Cut, all 21 fan-freaking unbelievable perfect episodes. Truly, one of the best sageuks ever made, in terms of how sweet, whimsical and wonderful it made me feel.

You must beg, borrow, steal, whatever, get thee to the DC of Tamra. I think every single person on Team Park Kyu!ran out and bought one in the last few weeks since it was released.

Exactly. You don't need a high body count and angst so thick that you need a sword to cut through it to make a great story. There's just enough angst to make you want to pet PK and make him feel better and it works. It works so well. It's funny but not cheesy, nothing feels fake. So much goodness.
