More thoughts on ep 5 of LOCH
May. 26th, 2010 11:50 pmEveryone, thank you for the bday wishes, messages, and gifts! Oh, and Anon who sent me a gift - thank you! I wish I knew who you were so I could thank you properly.

In other news, still am on LOCH. Pssst, don't tell anyone, but this might end up being my favorite wuxia drama ever, beating out *gasp* Return of the Condor Heroes. ROCH has one of the most amazing OTPs ever, but the wandering old bearded guys got a little dull - this one I haven't ffed one second yet.
1. I believe this guy may prove to be a future villain (he has that aura) but so far I like him anyway. It takes a certain kind of personality to travel with an all-female bodyguard entourage - it makes me LOL. (Or maybe I just have a fondness for mysterious men all in white with a penchant for fans after Nic Tse's amazingsuper-sexy hero in Handsome Siblings). Huang Rong's insults to him are priceless.

2. I really really love them. They are such an awesome, functional OTP. Even if they don't know they are an OTP so far.

3. Hu Ge looks really good in white.

4. I loved Yang Kang and Mu Nianci's first meeting so much (see prior post). He is so arrogant and jerkish, refusing to marry her despite winning her in the duel but I love how she slams him right back (he really had no business fighting if he didn't want to marry, no matter how freaked out about the uncertainty about his parentage he was - I really think that is the source of all his acting out - his worry about being a bastard and about the weirdness between his parents).

5. I don't know who he is (though he seems plot important) but he is kinda hot.

6. I totally ship Yang Kang's adoptive father and YK's biological mother. I am so glad they got together. I don't care if the dude killed YK's bio Dad - it's been 18 years, get over it :) Joking aside, I think his adoptive father is a good ruler and a good husband/father which is all I care about. But I do worry about Yang Kang finding out the truth. I really hope he never will and remain the prince forever, though I know that won't happen.

7. I loved the scene where Huang Rong revealed she was a girl to Guo Jing. The look on his face! Such an OTP - just look how beautiful these scenes are.

8. Yang Kang is pretty.

And so is Mu Nianci.

9. And also YK really really sweet with his mother. It's scenes like this that show he's still pretty young and the arrogant mask is just that - a mask.

10. OTP!

11. I think their different approaches to trying to find herbs for a random poisoned monk sum up their character differences perfectly.

12. I really loved this scene. Because she is certainly the brains but it is so clear he is her moral center - he needs her cleverness but she needs him to teach her how to be good. I love it. I love that she basically is all 'the monk is a stranger, let him die, who cares'

And his reaction is that rare flash of incredulous anger.

And she lashes out:

And I love that he just tries to convey why it's important:

And I love her reaction.

AWWWWWWW.

I just love how this dynamic reverses the gender dynamic I am used to in a lot of kdramas - here it's the guy who will 'morally elevate' the girl and the girl who will provide worldly experience and smarts.

I love them!

Date: 2010-05-27 10:54 am (UTC)I watched ROCH before LOCH and end up liking LOCH more too. Probably because LOCH is more light-hearted and not as angsty as ROCH so for a wuxia it's easier to watch, plus I think LOCH has more romance than ROCH. Out of the three stories, my least favourite would be "Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre". There's hardly any romance in it and the story's rather boring I barely remember any of it.
If you like this kind of double OTP wuxia, you probably will like "Wind and Cloud". It's sort of like a reverse ending for Guo Jing and Yang Kang. Although I have to warn you that one of the lead is Peter Ho.

Date: 2010-05-27 12:39 pm (UTC)I can't like Yang Kang - he is the worst kind of villain along with Ouyang Ke. Even though he is more evil, I don't hate Ouyang Feng as much.
Huang Rong is a spoiled daughter of a very eccentric man. An almost villain - but not quiet. So her idea of right and wrong is warped even though she is not really a bad person. But this doesn't stop her doing bad deeds.
Mu Nianci is such a character who suffers a lot. Poor girl - I really felt for her and shed tears at some of the scenes.

Date: 2010-05-27 04:00 pm (UTC)I think Huang Rong, if she didn't run into Guo Jing, could have well ended up a villain. So it's the best thing that happened in her life that she did. (Even if i still can't quite forgive her for making my beloved Yang Guo's childhood such a misery).
Poor Mu Nianci - she really would have been better off marrying some random farmer and having a long dull happy life.

Date: 2010-05-27 03:58 pm (UTC)ROCH has the love story that really kills me - so angsty and epic (but with a happy ending), not to mention my crush on Huang Xiaoming is rather insane but I find LOCH overall a little easier to watch. Not sure why but I agree it's lighter so maybe that's why.
I think I watched a movie version of W&C but a drama one is welcome. I don't mind Peter Ho even though he does nothing for me, I am just dreading his character in Summer Desire :)

Date: 2010-05-29 03:01 am (UTC)I don't really care for Peter Ho (his nose freaks me out) but I was fine with him in Sophie's Revenge. But combo of actor I am not keen on plus the role (I've read up and I'd hate the character even if he was played by my crush Vic Zhou) means DNW. If it wasn't for my love for Barbie and HXM, I wouldn't touch this with a ten-foot pole.
