You guys, I am so so so madly in love with Guo Jing/Huang Rong from their first meeting!

Because she is the cynical, brainy one, the mischievious but distrustful scammer who has been burned and does not want to open her heart or her trust. And he is the sweet-natured, unwordly one who is going to win her simply because he is such a good guy and he cares for her well-being even though they just met (and there is no attraction motive there for him because he thinks she's a boy). Maybe it's my kdrama lover squeeing - it's such a typical kdrama trope to have a cynical brainy and damaged guy falling for and being made 'better' by the simple but sweet and cheerful girl. And here the kdrama trope is gender-reversed and it's adorable and oh - so good! Because much as I may love my fictional angsty bad boys (Yang Kang in this one fits this trope to a T), there is no hero type I love as much as a genuinely kind and sweet guy. Just - guuuuuh. All that plus the fact that he thinks she's a boy. EEEEEE!
Introducing the one and only Huang Rong. I have fallen for her at first sight.

The set-up is this. He is new to the city and with all these travelling packs. She is a beggar thief dressed as a boy.

She takes all the bags and then taunts him. LOL.

But to her surprise, he stops chasing her and just sits down calmly. And she actually comes back. I loved this scene so much! Because she is treating him like a village idiot and demanding to know why he isn't chasing her and his matter-of-fact reply that 'he' must be badly off to steal and so can have all the stuff totally hits her between the eyes more than any blow would.

And then he offers the 'boy' a meal and when Huang Rong tries to scam him again (by dragging him to the most expensive restaurant in town and ordering the fanciest dishes), he is just impressed with her culinary knowledge and pays without any complaint. I just love that he is just being himself and she has no idea how to deal with someone that straightforward (even simple) and kind.

And then he gives her the scarf made by her mother and all the money he has. I love Guo Jing - he is certainly naive and even stupid, but his heart is so very pure.

And, of course, when she sees him coming after her, she assumes the worst. I feel quite awful for Huang Rong, OTOH she is the realist here. What are the chances she'd run into someone this genuinely good?

But of course that is not the case and the look on her face! I love how she lashes out because she so sees herself being drawn to him and she does not want to be vulnerable and to trust.

Heh, but she causes more trouble and guess who rescues her yet again. I have to say, it's just as well Guo Jing is supposed to be canonically dim because Huang Rong is as feminine as I am but since she is dressed as a boy and declares herself one, he takes it on faith.

As a bonus, this drama has some seriously gorgeous credits.

You know, I am apparently a mutant because I normally don't see Hu Ge as good-looking at all. I think he has an odd face, actually. But in some shots even I must agree he looks gorgeous.

Another bonus. It's also so very pretty!

And here is a scene that made me lol and lol, Mongolian Girl trying to get to the super-thick Guo Jing that she likes him and wondering if he likes boys. LOL - seeing that he falls with cross-dressing Huang Rong, I do wonder :P

Date: 2010-05-26 08:38 pm (UTC)Hu Ge was awful in it but to be fair everyone else was too - it was a mess of a drama (I like him better in other things but the same is true for both leading ladies).
I think he's good in LOCH though. It helps that Guo Jing isn't the most complex guy out there - he's honorable, sweet, and dim, sort of a Chinese Forrest Gump. I think Hu Ge does a good job but then this drama is not done by an insane person the way CP was.

Date: 2010-05-27 05:24 am (UTC)But yeah, I love the good guy - damaged girl trope more than anything. D: This is why I worship Hello God and am somehow managing to hang on despite the emo-ness of all the chracters in Cinderella Unni- there isn't nearly enough dramas that have this kind of OTP, honestly.
