Guess who is finally back on my screen?

That's right, ladies and gents, [livejournal.com profile] dangermousie's Number 1 Kdrama Love, i.e. Kang Ji Hwan is back in the adorable, delicious, fast-paced Coffee House. I don't think I fangirl anyone else in quite the same way - the first moment he appeared on my screen it's as if something relaxed inside me. Kinda insane and a little embarassing. But then the man has not been in a drama for over 2 years (!!!!) so you have to pardon my enthusiasm.

But luckily for me, Coffee House is worth watching regardless of whether one is a Kang Ji Hwan fangirl or not. I haven't been quite this gripped by the first episode since Chuno. I've seen flisties wonder if it is some sort of a Coffee Prince rip-off due to name similarities but they have nothing in common except for a certain realistic/off-kilter vibe. Different premise, different characters, different everything. The vibe of this drama reminds me rather of my favorite drama of all time Worlds Within, which makes sense since they share the same PD.

This story of an eccentric, charming, high-maintenance author and the people in his life actually feels like a jdrama - my favorite kind of kdrama is kdrama doing a jdrama through its unique lens. Love Story jdrama, with Toyokawa Etsushi as a blunt bestseller, comes to mind with this, a little, though Kang Ji Hwan's off-kilter hero is closer to Vic Zhou's eccentric in Wish to See You Again. CH may just complete the trifecta of awesome dramas about authors then.

The pace is fast, and the characters are all interesting. You know me, Miss plotty/shippy/angsty. Well, here is a confession - I don't care whether Kang Ji Hwan ends up with his assistant or his publisher or neither. I don't care if there will be plot and I hope there will be no angst. Yes - I love the characters and the world THAT much.

So far, this is the drama of the summer for me.

And because I can, here is a MV for Kang Ji Hwan's Hong Gil Dong, the best Robin Hood version out there, for my money (and the only Hong Sisters drama to crack my Top 10, despite my love for their My Girl).

YESSSSS.

I am so pleased because this completes the universally good reveiws I've read thus far. How does KJH do it? He's one of the few actors I've ever seen who once he made it to the big leagues has never starred in a drama that wasn't at least decent(although actually I haven't seen 90 Days Falling in Love so perhaps that's crap).

90 Days is good but super-depressing, plus adultery and quasi-incest - everything you dislike in one package :) But it's a good drama as a drama :)

Heh, I'm actually not entirely sold on this one yet :) I enjoyed the first two episodes but the characters didn't entirely click for me yet if it makes sense. However, it seems lovely, light and summery, there is a LOT of promise, and a family that doesn't seem bad (I'm confused by this concept in a kdrama every single time XD) and it's got KANG JI HWAN - one of the few people I will watch ANYTHING for. So in a week I might be squealing madly and rushing to viikii seconds after subbing finishes lol.

I liked the characters from the first ep, which is rare for me. I really like the lghtness of touch so far, too. Let's see if it continues.

IDEK but I am not drawn to this one. Which is kinda sad because I love KJH.

I wondered when you were going to talk about this one. CH seems so under the radar to me. I want to watch it and will watch it but I have no real desire to start it now. I think I'll wait until all the subs are out until I do.
