Last week, the first drama of KBS' summer season began airing. That drama is Call of the Country (a.k.a. My Country Calls). I have checked out the first episode (subbed fully on viikii) and, rather surprisingly, ended up being utterly delighted.

Do you like spy dramas but are too squeamish for prolonged torture scenes, too common-sense for heroes with more issues than the Wall Street Journal, and too wary for the possibility of half the cast being dead by the end?
Then MCC is for you. If Prosecutor Princess is rather like someone doing Mawang as a romcom, MCC is like someone doing Time Between Dog & Wolf as one.
Our heroine is a tough policewoman, not afraid to propose to her boyfriend, to single-handedly stop thugs trying a shakedown of street-vendors, or to bust a pervert installing a camera in a club's restroom.
It is that last that causes her path to intersect with that of our hero - the tough and uptight secret agent who is the guy installing the camera as part of an undercover sting of a massive drug operation. Heroine does not believe his "I am undercover, honest!" excuses (would you?) and the meticulously planned operation ends up ruined utterly. In fact, when the drama opens, she is being interrogated by the secret service, which cannot believe something like that could be an accident.
This is the first time their paths collide but it won't be the last. Can a by-the-book secret agent and a free-wheeling policewoman who is not above keeping confiscated items for herself ever find anything in common, let alone fall in love? I guess we'll find out. If they don't kill each other first.
MCCis truly fun. It's not unique or so amazing as to make my eyeballs fall out but it was a very delightful hour to spend. My delight was doubled by the fact that I had no expectations whatsoever. I am not familiar with the male lead at all (he looked awful on posters but in action is mega-hot), I liked the leading lady in Lawyers of Korea but it wasn't a 'must see everything she was in' kind of love, I am not familiar with Horan (who plays the secondary girl. An unfortunate name, that). I love Ryu Jin who plays the secondary guy but not enough to watch a drama just for him. So I expected zero and was very pleasantly surprised.

Date: 2010-05-17 10:52 pm (UTC)I LOVE Lee So Kyung BUT plucky policewoman does not sound like something I want to watch right now(even Mike He`s Calling for love sounds like a better option and I really do not like Mike He- I watch MH`s dramas to see other actors stealing his spotlight*evil grin*- Lee Wei comes to mind, rigt? )-I`ve got other, better options(I am watching a lakorn, a non-idol tw drama starring Xiu Jie Kai which I would totally recommend to you if it wasn`t probably 40+ episodes/ 100 minutes per episode long Mon-Thurs family drama, Yankee-kun to Megane-chan, Tumbling,Kimitaku`s drama, Sunao ni Narenakute, ff-ng through PT,CU, one weekend kdrama and 2 daily kdramas, watching PP and korean family drama called Definitely Neighbors and as of today Coffee House.)
What is your opinion on the main actor? I`ve never seen that guy before.

Date: 2010-05-20 01:39 pm (UTC)Like you said male lead is mega-hot in action(and totally CUTE in that scene when he was following her-the one when he saw how despicable her ex-boyfriend is). Plucky Policewoman isn`t overly cute and is not stupid at all. I like her a lot. Ryu Jin fits the villain image.BUT I thought Horan was really stiff.
Why haven`t you mentioned that Pasta guys were in this drama?-I would have watched it earlier if you mentioned the funny mobster and the hot younger agent.*wink*
