Tsuki No Koibito - I pick a ship

Finished episode 1 of Tsuki No Koibito and it's official - I am Team Striker Girl all the way.

I have no interest in Kimura's pairing with the best friend whatsoever. I wouldn't be surprised or upset if they are the final endgame but my problem with them is the same as it is with e.g. the two prosecutors in Princess Prosecutor - they would be functional and very comfortable together and in real life it is probably the best choice - but in fiction, for me as a viewer, I find their dynamic about as interesting as dirt.

OTOH Kimura/Striker Girl? Whoa, Mama!




I am under no illusions that they would have a happy, functional, traditional relationship. He is not a good person and the main feeling between them seems to be a sudden odd connection combined with major major physical attraction. (Side note - what a welcome rarity it is to see a jdrama so open about carnal desire - every time Kimura looks at her, it's as if he is undressing her with his eyes and the air shimmers with tension between them).

But that is how I like my fictional couples - intensely passionate, dysfunctional, impossible.



I am sure the story will go for 'friends turned lovers, be with the one who knows you best' conclusion, and I am fine with that little as that interests me here (I only like those types of storylines if there is major angst and ridiculous sexual chemistry a la Worlds Within). But I do hope that realization will elude Kimura's character as long as possible so I can watch the story that interests me the most.




I do wonder if some of the intense shippy feelings towards the best friend come from love for the actress? I am not the world's biggest jdrama watcher so I don't think I've seen her in anything before so that draw is absolutely lacking there.

very time Kimura looks at her, it's as if he is undressing her with his eyes and the air shimmers with tension between them YES! I also loved that part when she was on the runway and everyone was cheering for her and he turned around to smile. :D

It does seem like a lot of hardcore bf shippers are big fans of that actress. Thankfully I'm not familiar with both of them so i don't really get that. Only actress i'm familiar with is Keiko but i don't even like her. She was so awkward and stiff in Buzzer Beat. I'm with you for the ship. I like the best friend but just him being with Striker girl is just way more interesting to watch.

Yup, I am not familiar with any of the actresses, so going just on the stories, the messy messy intense thing he has going with Striker Girl is way more my thing.

I only recognise the actors, have no idea who the actresses are. I'm completely onboard with the StikerGirl ship. It kind of reminds me of one of the better Harlequin Presents novels...

Does his assistant have a thing for the best friend?

OMG, yes, it totally reminds me of romance novels I read in high school - plucky poor heroine, rich jerk etc.

I am very happy with Striker Girl/Kimura for now but I"m reserving a special place in my heart for Best Friend, whom you must admit is an AWESOME character. I was best friend/Kimura to such an extent in the first half of the ep that it led me to actually go check who the OTP was because I was very unhappy that Striker Girl/Kimura would be it - and lo and behold I find murky pairings and that Best Friend's actress is super super famous! Of course by the end of ep 1 I'd fallen madly in love with STriker Girl/Kimura too so for now I'm shipping them, but I look forward to seeing the probable transition that happens haflway through the drama.

I don't know. Best Friend is cool in abstract but she just doesn't interest me when I watch her. She is a cool person but somehow she lacks something to make me care (perhaps dysfunction?)

Ehhh, I think Kimura is evil in this one and unless he reforms can't see him happy with either of them at the end.

a HUGE part of me was secretly hoping Takeuchi Yuko would be cast in this drama....

I honestly didn't think Aki/Haru share enough lovey dovey scenes. But if I was to watch TnK, I would ship Striker girl too...since Chiling Lin rocks, and Jerry Yan loves her till now. lol

I don't know! Thw worse thing is that chair reminds me of the kiddie stuff Gae In designs in PT and so the gyrating around it was even more... weirdly awkward.

You can tell it's an Asano Taeko drama. First ep in and there's already obsessive behaviour. I'm sure there'll be deep, dark secrets too. Matsuda Shota's assistant is giving me the creeps.

I am wondering why Kimura's character didn't sleep with the model (as she was telling her friend). Couldn't have been scruples so I wonder what's with him - is he gay, impotent, obsessed with Shota, what? :)

Supporting this couple as well!! I get that Maemi most probably the one who understands Rensuke the most, but Rensuke seems to treat Xiu Mei very differently from the start. First off, he barely makes eye contact even when he talks to other employees, much less firing them. But at the construction site he took off his sunglasses to talk to her. He's pretty much a cleanliness freak, dissing Xiu Mei twice when her face was rammed onto the car windows and at the construction site. But he still went to find her at the construction site when she disappeared despite the rain and the fact that he could have just dispatched someone to get her back before convincing her to stay. And lastly, he doesn't really like it when people invade his personal space. Most of the time it's Maemi and that other girl who would initiate the close contact. But he initiated the hug with Xiu Mei saying those drop-dead words "I want you." Pure hotness.

Yes, I don't think I am very invested in his relationship with Maemi so far because she does not stand up to him - she does reverything he wants and doesn't even seem to think to rebel. Plus, he and XM have ridiculous levels of chemistry.
