Korean Hana Yori Dango, ep 1

Just watched the first episode of Korean Hana Yori Dango/Boys Over Flowers with filmi_girl and it's total total total LOVE. It just might end up my favorite version if they keep it up! It was hilarious and awesome and gleeful.

Makino is awesome and unfazed or impressed by the crazies.







Rui is gorgeous.







Domyouji is pig-headed and childish and bullying and hilarious. Though the thought of him with a weapon is horrifying. He is also really hot.












This being a kdrama, they are not shy about having fanservice...



And there is the ice-cream scene which too awesome to describe.

























Did I mention that Rui is pretty?





And I am so looking forward to this!

OMG I'm right there with you!! Have just finished it myself and I am in love with all the characters, esp Jan Di- she has an amazing rubber face:) The beauty of watching it without subs is I think I got a better feel for the characters rather than having to concentrate on reading subs I could watch their faces. Bring on the next episode!!

I'm really happy with Lee Min Ho's Doumoyji! His physical presence is domineering but there was also a nice hint of stupid pigheadedness. Yey!

He just might end up my favorite Domyouji of all. Jerry Yan was gorgeous but learning acting on the job and I like MatsuJun as an actor but don't find him attractive at all, and physically he was all wrong for Domyouji.

Bleh, I just posted quite a rant about it. I'm not happy with Makino. The rest of the show seems fine but she needs to stop with those exaggerated expressions. Actors doing that have has always been a pet peeve of mine.

Just like in the Japanese version, I think Soujirou and Rui are the hottest. I don't know their Korean names...

I really liked Makino, actually. Sure, she is OTT, but so is every kdrama comedic heroine and I like it (My Girl or Goong are two good examples). Plus, Inoue Mao was also OTT -- I think it goes with the character (barbie wasn't OTT, but that's Barbie. My girlcrush on her knows no bounds).

I can see how it can grate though, it just doesn't bother me.

Isn't the ice cream scene the greatest thing ever?!
I think this will end up being my favourite too (hopefully they won't screw up in the middle or something).
And isn't Lee Min Ho just perfect as Domyouji?

Oh what did you think of Kim Bum picking up that chef with that "delicious looking hands" line? Lolol I kind of died there cos well it doesn't really need explaining :D

Oh and how do you feel about Goo Hye Sun's Makino? I really like her. I know everyone's saying how she needs to tone it down and maybe she should but I didn't mind how animated she was.

he ice cream scene makes it all better. What's "all?" Everything. God, the look on his face when she shoves him down, with ice-cream on his face, and then she throws money on him for his cleaning bill and sticks a sticker for laundry on him? The scene was HEAVEN. especially since you are afraid for a moment she will clean his shoes, even if you know she is Makino and she never will. I loved Rui's grin at the whole scene (though how Rui: he is clearly not keen on Domyouji's bullying activities but he won't step in).

Kim Bum's pick up line was so loltastic, it was fabulous. I hope to hear more ridiculous lines from him in the future.

I like GHS: she looks the right age and I like the animated thing. Kdrama comic heroines are always like that.

One of the things I like most about this version is that all their changes make delicious sense. I never fully understood why on earth Makino went tp that school in the original. But here, they have a reason (with a delicious netizen twist). Maybe I am just amused that it is Kaede's fault (through the scholarship) that her crazy son will fall for the most unsuitable girl ever.

Yay! So much goodness in one episode! I consider this a very promising start indeed. I think my favourite scene, apart from the ice cream bit, was the bit where Jun-pyo is confidently expecting Jan-di to come storming in to chew him out for the egging/flouring, and he's counting down. Twice. The look on his face when it dawns she's not coming... Very Tsukasa, who's always so disappointed when he doesn't receive the attention he expects from her ;-). Lee Min-ho has totally sold me on his ability to do the character justice! As for Gu Hye-sun: yes, some overacting. But it doesn't bother me, as the two most important scenes (ice cream and egging) she absolutely nailed. Plus she's cute, tough and spunky, and keeps talking with her mouth full :-).
I have to say, though, that the background music (not the insert songs, but the score) was pretty bad; I listened to it without sound at work, so I'm only just realising that now.
Ooh, looks like they'll be doing the basketball showdown. I'm always absurdly fond of that bit.

I LOLed and LOLed and LOLed. He is such an idiot :) The bit in the preview where he is peering at her from the window also looks like it will be hilarious.

I don't mind GHS' acting as Jandi at all. Sure, she is OTT, but so is every comedic kdrama heroine.

I didn't notice the background music, I confess. Unless the music is either sublime or super-awful, I am usually oblivious to it.

OMG, I can't wait...

I am starting to wish that I understand korean now. And yes, the Rui in this seems to be so much more appealing than Japanese Rui. But for the life of me, I cannot tell the Akira and Soujirou guys apart, they look like twins to me! And the korean HYD seems to have raided the same wardrobe that was used to dress MatsuJun, albeit in enlarged sizes (I thought I would never ever see the grey fur collar thing ever again! Alas! I was wrong!)

Although the BOYFRIEND seems to be convinced that it will be utter droll and is currently attempting to ban me from watching it, saying that he does not want to be tortured by a bad version (he's seen the Japanese version, and likes it)!

I can tell Soujiro and Akira apart because I adored Kim Bum (who plays Soujiro) in a very different role in East of Eden. But think of it this way: Soujiro's hair is way darker.

the first episode was gold for makino! i love the actress as her. i loved that scene in the cafeteria. she totally pays no mind to what those girls are rambling on about and keeps on shoveling food in her mouth. hyun joong's never been in a drama before this one. only reason i know him is from this korean variety show called We Got Married. he's so my prince charming!

I watched the first episode and couldn't believe just how much I liked it. Jandi is soooo good, her expressions send me into hysterical fits many times. She's spectacularly amusing and even if the whole thing is gonna suck (which it doesn't so far) I'm watching it for her.
Haven't watched dramas in like months but I couldn't resist watching this. Don't know why. I guess the HYD fever took over again. ^^

The first episode was glorious. I laughed and I laughed and I laughed mostly due to Domyouji, I mean Jun-pyo's fashion sense. ;) I didn't think the character could get anymore dandified after Matsjun's portrayal but there you have it. I think I giggled every time he appeared in a new outfit. I love him already and it's only just begun.

The actress that plays Makino drove me mad at first with her extreme facial contortions but as time progressed she really started to grow on me. The first time she called Jun-pyo out clinched it for me. The ice-cream scene was played to perfection.

All the secondary characters so far are also right on point. Her little brother is adorable. And I'm so happy that they managed to make it fresh without ruining it. I really liked how they explained Makino's existence at the school. That really worked for me and is, I have to admit, a more explicable way than actual canon.

So. Much. Fun.

Oh, the fashions! I love the horridness of Domyouji's clothes.

I'd love to liveblog and will try with next weeks' eps, problem is they are on weekdays and liveblogging takes so much time...but I certainly want to because it's so much fun to do!

I LOVED the ice cream scene, when Jan Di throws the money at Jun Pyo, and he kinda just stares at it, as if he's never seen such a small amount of money before.

It has it's flaws, but I'm loving it too!
