1. BOLLYWOOD

In case you haven't seen it, here is the trailer for New York, the upcoming Bolly movie with John Abraham. It's supposed to deal with being falsely accused of terrorism or whatever but I am afraid my brain has been short-circuited by John. Abraham. Naked.

2. Korean HANA YORI DANGO (a.k.a. Boys Over Flowers)

The long 7+ mins official trailer came out, even if only in a fancam version. I think I am in love. This is so much better than those 45 sec trailers because it actually reassures me it will be proper Hanadan. Also, Lee Min Ho should make an awesome Domyouji: it's like a dream mix of Matsumoto Jun's ability to act and Jerry Yan's looks (i.e. tall and looking like he could do some SEVERE damage). Kim Hyun Jung looks suitably dreamy as Rui -- I can see why Makino would crush like mad on him and this is the first time I thought Go Hye Sun could pull off Makino.

(Side Note: If you are not a fan of the story already, the trailer won't make any bloody sense as to what the drama is about. I don't mind, being a rabid fangirl, but shouldn't they target this it at a larger audience?)

3. The fact that Lee Da Hae left East of Eden resulted in the soompi thread basically degenerating into a total flame war. It's a pity fandom wank doesn't know about soompi.Sample (just to show it's not just LDH's fans who are crazy):

Yes!!!
Us YR-DC's fan can now live happy....while on the other hand you can die with a heart-attack!

You'd think I'd be immune to all things Hanadan by now, after 2 seasons of the jdrama and a movie, the manga, the anime and both seasons of Meteor Garden, but no, I'm just as excited as ever for this to come out.

You watched both seasons of MG? My condolences! Yikes...

But yes, I am ridiculously excited for this!

I'm liking what Kim Bum has done with his hair.

There all too young for me to fangirl (bring on the MEN!) but very cute all the same.

Yeah, they are all a little too young for me to drool over I might make an exception for Lee Min Ho but it does look cute and like they poured tons of money into it.

If you are not a fan of the story already

By story, you mean manga/anime, right? Because I'm a fan of the Japanese version, and I'm still hopelessly confused about half of the trailer. x_x

I think I'll probably check out an episode or something, but idk. :/

Yup, manga/anime (or the Taiwanese version, which was really faithful). This looks, from the trailer, to be pretty faithful to the story. I like the jdrama, but they did very free-form things with the story.

I think Japanese versions of dramas adapted from mangas are usually loosely based on them? Or at least, from the ones that I've seen. And it's always because they have a less amount of time to show everything in.

Ah, shipwars. I have no idea whatsoever about this fandom but the rhetoric has the eerie ring of utter familiarity to it.

John Abraham? Naked? You just fried my head. *clicks on vid*

OK, watched the trailer (how are you always so up on these things?). It actually looks quite interesting. If they manage to pull it off, it could be really interesting: somebody else's take on America's biggest trauma since Vietnam besides America itself. And eerily topical, and using the problem of foreigners in the US gives a new spin to the spate of desis-abroad in glitzy locations movies. Otoh, it could be major embarrassing shlock. In which case, only JA's writhing torse will console us.

I'm sort of intrigued by the way desi film makers are tackling issues.

Also? Is John Abraham going to be forever locked into two gay guys buddies-and-a-girl-in-Amrika plots?? Fine by me.

Here, have another terrorist as icon.

P.S. It just occurs to me that India's history with terrorism goes way back further than America's. Sometimes I think the States think they have invented terrorism while the rest of the world has had to deal with it for decades.

The good thing about any movie starring JA is that even if the movie ends up being bad, you don't feel like you wasted your money because you can ogle...

1. John Abraham... *_* Was there some kind of a plot involved with the pretty?!

2. I just watched that 7 minute trailer today and I am so waiting for the Korean version of Hanadan. Why isn't it available already?!!!

And on random things that make me happy, I watched the Korean film of Antique Bakery today in a not-so-good camrip version without subs, but I still got to see the film and who cares about subs when the story is made for oglings the leads.... :D

1. Does anyone care if there is a plot?

2. I am dying for it!

3. Oooh, AB! I am waiting for a 'cleaner' version but can't wait to watch it!

Yay! *does the Dance of Joy* Official BBF trailer, with a generous running time! With a good look at all of the leads! With yet more of the shower scene! This makes me a happy camper indeed :-). But you're right about the whole lack of context thing; I'd definitely noticed with the two teasers that they were squarely aimed at those who knew the story. Didn't expect that in the main trailer itself, though. Hmmm. Perhaps they can safely assume there's such a huge knowledge of the original/other adaptations and such interest in this version they don't need to draw in those without prior knowledge?

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Agreed- I love the trailer because it looks good and I know the scenes in context but as a general trailer, it's awful. And seriously, no matter how popular Hanadan manga is, they should do at least one general trailer!

The strange thing is, it starts out as if it's going to be a standard trailer - the F4 make their strutting bishounen-y entrance, Jun-pyo proves he's a bastard, Jan-di calls him on it - and then it just becomes a bit of travelogue! I mean, you can see that she gets caught up with the two boys, but that's about it if you don't know the story. I did hear a whisper that this footage was what they showed at the press conference they did earlier in the week, so maybe it's not intended to be the final trailer either? All I've seen on the net so far is this fan-cam version, not the glossy one I'd expect to see on Korean TV...
Having said that, I'm very impressed with the overall look and feel. I think they've cast carefully, and it shows; and they've also obviously put some real money into it.

It does look expensive. Whatever else you can say about Group 8 (I don't know anyone who liked Goong S), their dramas look like they poure money into them. And this time, hopefully the script won't be a problem :)

While it is possible to do HYD justice on a shoestring budget (i.e. Meteor Garden), it certainly looks way better when you can demonstrate that the leads are indecently rich rather than just talking about it :-). And the fact that the whole manga story is there in front of them hopefully means they won't fall into the k-drama trap of meandering after the halfway point. I mean, they'll have to pick and choose which bits they're going to use, but if they just follow the main storyline they shouldn't have too many problems.
I have never seen Goong S, but it seems to have become a byword for 'waste of money and hype'! Was it really that bad?

*watched the HYD trailer* OMG I think they got me!! I'm excited!!

It has some original HYD charm but I love the Korean twist on it.

And all the interactions are so amazing..."My heart...Did you step on it?" GUH!!! So good.
