I have just come to a huge revelation:

No matter what, I love Korean Boys Over Flowers and I don't care who knows it!

1. Looking back, I truly loved every bit in the first 16 or so eps out of a 25 ep drama - not too shabby! And even the last ones I really enjoyed watching even if not for the reasons intended.

2. The first 16 or so eps of it were purely awesome by every definition - totally kickass heroine, doofus hero etc.

3. It gave me Yi Jung/Ga Eul, finally satisfying a craving of years.

4. I met a lot of awesome people through BOF fandom and had a hell of a lot of fun watching/blogging/etc.

5. Lee Min Ho angsts so purty! I feasted on his manly wails.

6. It satisfied my craving for cracky emo live-action manga take for a while.

So yes! In a stunning 180 degree turn, I have come to terms with my BOF love!

Have a MV!

I never finished it. I ended up reading javabeans' summaries.

It was one of my first "watch with others while airing," tho!

I finished it and even though the last few eps made me boggle at the writer's insanity, I have warm feelings for the drama overall.

BOF is the best drama crack ever! It's so full of clichés that you can choke on them but it's so good in its campy way.

5. Lee Min Ho angsts so purty! I feasted on his manly wails.
Lol, me too! He wailed so much you must have been a happy fangirl by the end of the drama! :o)

Oh yes. Indeed. The karmic punishment for all the bad stuff he did before he fell for Jandi resulted in so much delicious manly sobbing.

His breakdowns in ep 14? I rewatched them four times in a row :P Both of them.

Tasty.

Oh, you're killing me with angst!

Too bad the neck kerchief kind of ruins his manly breakdown. What is it with Korean men and their silken neckwear?

You make me want to go re-watch a few episodes
of BOF.

If you think that neckerchief is bad, remember Yi Jung's? He always had one on - I was wondering whether he was worried about vampires going for his neck.

Oh, you're killing me with angst!

Remember his breakdown in jail? Sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurp. So good.

But the airport one is still my favorite. When he just collapses on the floor of this busy public building and starts sobbing. AWWWWWWWW. Jandi, turn around!

It's funny, when we were in Macau, we went to the Venetian casino and I was all 'heeeee, this is where he dumped her, heeee' and taking pics :)

I try not to think about that neckerchief. I'm so shallow that it can ruin a drama for me. The horror. Do they do it on purpose or do they actually think it's elegant?

A true "I was there" moment! lol

We're angst junkies. I think we're beyond help.

Speaking of angst, there was a nice dose of it (+ a dose of UST as well) in this month's Vampire Knight chapter so I was a happy fangirl this morning when I saw the raws + summary were out. I lapped it up like crazy. The Asian entertainment industry has angst all figured out, be it in dramas, movies or mangas.

You make me laugh. First you complain how much you hate BOF and YAB, then you relent on both occasions.

I am very luke-warm about the drama, and I have always been. But "It gave me Yi Jung/Ga Eul, finally satisfying a craving of years" - indeed. Just for this one thing, I like it.

I had to sit through the whole thing as well, with the repeats of some scenes, because my daughter LOVED it.

I am fickle fickle as the wind :P

Tbh, while I think YAB is a better drama, quality-wise, I like BOF better. I truly loved the first 16 eps and with YAB I only truly loved first 8 and BOF kept me entertained throughout even when I was railing at it :) It was so much more melodramatic (plus on a shallow front I find LMH hotter than JGS).

While YAB fandom was a big part of the reason I didn't enjoy YAB as much as I could have, BOF fandom is a huge part of the reason I had such a good time with BOF as I did! (I still remember the hilarious fake ljs of BOF characters - totally wonderful).

I think BOF (like YAB) was oriented at a younger audience than I am as it's main target but the main thing about is, I was able to squee about it much better when I let go my notion of it as a Hanadan adaptatoon and looked at it in its own light.

Next time you hate something I will know better and won't take it as seriously. :D

I let go my notion of it as a Hanadan adaptatoon and looked at it in its own light.

yes, and in a big way - we already had two quite faithful adaptations of Hanadan, so I thought that decision to make it more of it's own thing was quite clever. And yes, it it was more of a teen-thing. but surprisingly, my daughter also thought that the main girl was a bit of wash-out and loved Ga Eul all the way.

Jandi was pretty awesome in the first half but in the second half, not really. I agree with your daughter - I prefer GE. More spunk!

Next time you hate something I will know better and won't take it as seriously. :D

If I rant about a drama it means I am invested enough to care. If I don't post about it at all - those are the ones which are truly a lost cause (e.g. I don't think you've ever seen me rant about My Love Patzzi which I think is truly the worst kdrama I've ever seen - I disliked it so much I see no point in bringing it up or wasting time on thinking more about it and have no energy to rant about it, would rather forget it).

I can never hate BOF simply because it was so much fun when everyone was watching it and collectively losing their minds.

You know I think I kind of hate the drama because I was so invested in it. It was the first time I was watching an airing drama and the first time I participated in fandom (which was probably my favourite part about BOF) and enjoyed the first 12 - 16 eps so much only to be hit with the crazy in the next eps which was so disappointing. Though I did have a lot of fun bashing the writer and Ji hoo sunbae and Jandi's character assassination and making silly macros and things. But BOF did give me Lee Min Ho and Prince Song and Yi Jung/Ga Eul so I can't completely hate it but I don't really like it either.

That's how I met you - through BOF fandom - so I am glad you were invested!

I wish someone took the crazy koolaid from the writer near the end - it would have been a perfect drama.

But I had so much fun watching it and with a fandom, plus it was a great time in my life (I had a baby in the middle) that it will always have a warm place in my heart.

That's true! :D I did meet some awesome people through BOF/fandom so I'll always like it for that.

Man she was insane. She really needed to put down the crazy pills.

Aw that's sweet. I was supposed to be studying for exams D:

I remember going from "Mama Kang is evvvvvvillll!' to "Hey, Gu Jun Pyo, she pushed you out and I learned just a few days ago how agonizing it is, so show her some respect!" in the middle, LOL.

Mostly I loved BOF. The beginning was great, then with the wedding episodes it kinda went downhill for the main couple, but there was still Ga Eul and Yi Jung to ship (not to mention the 'almost kiss' that drove me nuts). But overall, I LOVED it.

Although, I have to admit at first I was reluctant to watch it because I loved the Japanese one and I though the story really doesn't need another remake, but it turned out to be perfect.

TURN OFF THE DAMN PHONE, GA EUL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I wanted to throw something at the screen out of pure frustration at that point - I needed my Emo Potter Boy and Ga Eul Yang smoochies.

It's very different from the jdrama but I enjoyed both.

I wanted a whole drama about Yi Jung/Ga Eul.

I didn't ship them in the j-drama because they made her character kinda crazy and stalk-ish at the end.

A a drama about them would be heaven. It would be ahshgdajsk....I can't even...

PS. You're icon reminds me of something, in those scenes where Ga Eul shows him the message on the building, is it just me or his her lip cut or something? I was always wondering and it drives me insane sometimes....

I liked her at first but then yeah, they went overboard.

I rewatched that cell commercial with them way too many times :P

I'll always remember BOF fondly for being the first kdrama i watched and for giving me some really great lolz with it. (I was one of those people with the character sock puppet LJs - i kind of wish there was another drama i could do something like that for...) Plus i made quite a few new friends with my stupid gifs and icons.

Oh and it gave us LMH too. XD

Were you the one who did Woo Bin's? Oh God, I remember the sock-puppet LJs. They were the most awesome thing in creation.

Ahhh, LMH! I swear, the only reason I'll continue with Personal Taste would be for him.

Yeah i was. Man, i wish we'd come up with the idea when the drama actually started 'cos the lolz would have been EPIC. You know, i might just go and pick a jdrama to take the mickey out of - d'you reckon Kimura's TsukiKoi would work well?

I'm pretty much the same when it comes to PT - I'm watching it but not really thinking much of it once the episode is over. I'm hoping we get some better angst or an actualy storyline soon...

From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
It may - the thing with BOF is it was a funny drama. I have no idea if KimuTaku's thing is supposed to be an angstfest.

PT has a decent cast and interesting premise but their writer/director are totally asleep at the job.

try to watch the ep from today(7th ep)(next ep after the kiss)

I saw the ep raw so I might be wrong about the lines ...
I enjoyed BBF until Macau episode... after that I blame it on the scriptwriters(errm I think I always do, except PT where I blame the PD-nim and the editors)
LMH acting is still stiff but he learned a few things in the last year... Can I love Kim Hyun Joong(Ji Hoo) instead..at least as a rookie actor he delivered as expected, but LMH c'mon you are not new in this business Sunbae...you could do better

Ooooooh, this sounds so very awesome.

Emo suicidal? Sluuuuuurp.

I am easy about dramas so I loved BOF even past the Macau scenes but by the end it was full of crazy sauce.

Hehe welcome to the club! I'm exhausted from having to defend my love of this drama ever since it became cool to hate it. Yeah it was a mess but a charming one. Definitely a great experience thanks to fandom *nods*

Yeah - I've seen better-made or acted dramas out there (and certainly better-written ones) but few that were as much fun to watch. It gave me a couple of hours of sheer delight each week.

Plus, the smexy smexy Jun Pyo (and smexy smexy Yi Jung and Woo Bin and Ji Hoo).

Sorry but the drama is an insult to HYD story and spirit. It made a lot of money good but it made MG looks like a masterpice. Besides I think LMH acting here is cringeworthy. Each I see this image it reminds me how much his acting is stiff.

I don't think it's a good Hanadan adaptation, agreed. I found it entertaining as a drama though (if flawed) but ymmv.
