The hair! The outfits! In my world, they would be members of their high school math club, too uncool for school. In kdrama world, they are rockin' pop idol superstars.

This is a promo shot of the leads of the upcoming You're Beautiful where Jan Geun Seok, the gentleman on the right, is the leader of a popular idol group, and Park Shin Hye, the lady on the left, is a woman pretending to be a man in order to be a group member.

I sincerly hope that outside of promo shots she binds her breasts a bit better otherwise I am worried for the state of Jang Geuk Seok's vision in mistaking her for a boy.

I am tickled pink to note that PSH plays twins - it's her fraternal brother who is actually the member of the band. It's when he is injured that she steps in and pretends to be him. This is going to be delicious as it will totally explain why the rest of the band members never begin to wonder about the gender thing - they are used to their fellow guy! Oh, and it will make JGS's inevitable sexual confusion even more delicious. He will know it's a guy and yet... Heeee.

I'd almost forgotten that at one point they were considered for leads of Boys Over Flowers - PSH lost out to Gu Hye Sun and JGS wanted to play Ji Hoo's character instead and got denied. I am glad of it, as Lee Min Ho needed his big break (and was more suited for Jun Pyo anyway) and I adore PSH and wouldn't want my love for her confused due to my issues with Boys Over Flowers. But this adds a certain "it must be" for their pairing in this.

Side note: commenters on dramabeans site keep saying girl-crossdressing-as-boy is a cliche. They must be watching different dramas than I do, lucky them!

The only ones I know are: Coffee Prince, Damo, Painter of the Wind, Queen Seon Deok. And then Taiwanese and Japanese Hana Kimi, Chinese Butterfly Lovers and Legend of Condor Heroes. That's it. It's hardly a huge trend.

But by all means, please let me know of more of these cross-dressing dramas if they exist! I want them so very much.

Oh, and pssssst. Here are JGS and PSH in their more "natural" avatars:

(It's from a commercial).

This will be delish.

This looks. . . soo bad. In the way that could be good.

Everyone keeps talking about it because of the Hong Sisters and honestly that's the only reason I'm even intrigued.

And PSH doesn't look like a boy!

And OMG MY EYES what are they wearing!?!? I agree with you on the high school math club. I'll add on chess club.

It's either going to be good or it's going to be ridiculous. Either way, it seems like win :)

That picture makes me laugh! This has the potential to be hilarious for all the wrong reasons.

I agree with the math club look except for the cuff bracelet she's wearing. I remember reading a short manga once about a girl disquised as a boy in a pop group. Only in that story, the whole group knew she was really a girl.

This reminds me, I must see if Chocolate manhwa (the one about kpop band and the girl fan) got continued...

ahaha period dramas have this delicious tendency to airily ignore the ahem chest areas of girl cross-dressing-as-guys - I mean you've seen at least parts of the Hana Kimis, anyone who couldn't tell she was a girl with a second glance must've been stone blind. but let's not forget - it's a DRAMA! and one of their privileges is to toy airily with reality.

also I LOOOVE cross-dressing, bring on more!

Ella looked boyish enough in twHK and ditto for CP but generally, yes - Butterfly Lovers girl made me lol and lol at concept of anyone mistaking her for a guy.

that is one feminine looking man. I hope he looks less like a gender confused prep school student in the actual drama. girl looks cute though <3 and the girl cross dressing as a boy thing is a well worn trope across various media and stories around the world but to me that doesnt matter. if you like the trope then it doesnt really get old no matter how many times it's done.I know I will never tire of it (though I AM tired of the guys freaking out over possibly being gay, i mean it's like no one has heard of bisexuality! that being said in a conservative country like korea i can understand the fear a bit better) and if you dont like the trope then even seeing it once is too many times. so I really dont see how it's a complaint. if people dont like the premise they should just not watch the drama.

I hope he looks like he did in Doremifasolatido, where he looked boyish. This is JGS though, a man who is clearly at heart a Johnnys, so you never know.

I'd imagine being gay or bi in Korea is a pretty huge deal. Especially if you are a pop idol with an image to protect (I bet many fangirls love the fanservice but would freak if it was for real).

Honestly, I'm not interested. But, I knooooow I'll check it out.
Curiousity will kill me otherwise plus while I think they actually managed to make JGS look fug (boy was h.o.t. in baby and me) and I'm not fond of the concept, PSH is always cute and endearing on screen.

I looooove the concept.

But agree, JGS looks - odd - in this.

I'm just about to finish Coffee Prince (my first kdrama!) & I was looking for something along the same lines. This looks like it'll be awesome; I'll definitely be on the edge of my seat waiting for subs. :D

Hideous hairstyle for JGS but I still love him anyway. I'm not a big fan of Park Shin Hye and I hate her for being so close to my Geun Suk in that photo.

:D
