BOF 24: the writer is still insane!

Writer, you are INSANE!
We are at the end of episode 24 out of a 25 episode series and what is the shippiness we get? Yes, that's right, Jandi coming to guilt-ridden Ji Hoo who sits in the dark, telling him she didn't want him to punch Jun Pyo (for insulting Jandi!) not to protect JP but because Ji Hoo would hurt more (if he hit his friend). And then she holds his hand and goes "OMG they are so cold how long did you wait outside?" and starts warming them up with her own. And then she tells him that she can stay strong because of him, because his being here gives her strength.
WTF WTF WTF WTF???? It is no secret that by now Ji Hoo is my favorite character in BOF, and if the story could end with Ji Hoo/Jandi, I'd write thank you letters to TPTB. But it won't! So WTF is the writer doing? In case she forgot, the OTP is supposed to be Jun Pyo/Jandi. She has succeeded in making me like the canon OTP as much as I like skin rashes (by now, the only rationale I see for Jandi sticking to JP is the Russian saying which translated means "love is cruel, so you can even fall in love with a goat" i.e. under crazy influence of love you can fall for someone utterly ill-suited to you and unappealing in general) and I think Ji Hoo is both better for Jandi and with her, but that is precisely the point - JH/Jandi are not the canon OTP and it's bad writing to make me, the ultimate canon nazi to think that! And whatever my opinion of her suitors' respective merits, by now there should not be alternaship scenes of utter shippiness - the JH/Jandi scene is the kind of scene only given to OTPs in kdramas! Not to mention that having Jandi be this way and do this after he proposed and she rejected him so she is in no doubt of Ji Hoo's feelings makes her seem pointlessly cruel and fond of games.
Anyway, writer, you are INSANE.

Date: 2009-03-30 08:39 pm (UTC)Seriously - I would not be surprised if the writer for this writes letters to the guy who plays Ji Hoo in her own blood. People in comms are commenting on her obsession with him!

Date: 2009-03-30 08:59 pm (UTC)It's time to stop this, Writer Lady. It's time to focus on the original OTP. It's time to stop making JH out to be this perfect guy whose handsome, kind to children and animals, and is perfect at everything. 'Cause, he's not meant to be that at this point in the story.

Date: 2009-03-31 01:06 pm (UTC)WHY WHY WHY???
What has Jihoo done to deserve this??
As much as I love seeing him on screen, this is totally breaking my heart!!!
Stupid stupid Jandi!!! WHY are you doing this to him??? He has been nothing short of amazing to you, and this is how you treat him?!?!?!
How can this all be resolved with 1 episode to go?? I cannot see it. I just can't!! OMG I am soo mad at the writer!!! I am unable to feel the connection between Jandi and Junpyo anymore...it's like she's hanging on to him out of nostalgia or something...and blind to what is standing right in front of her...
ARGH!!!!!!

Date: 2009-04-04 04:09 am (UTC)In the other versions, I believed in DMJ/Makino's love throughout their separation. Even in MG2 where it got ridiculous and drawn out, I still believed that they were meant for each other. But here, I could not. No matter how much chemistry JD/JP have when they are onscreen together, it does not make up for the lack in development of their relationship beyond the superficial throughout the 25 episodes.
AND what was with Jandi saying something about how Jihoo was her "destined partner" during their dance...isn't that just another way of saying "soulmate"?!?!? WHAT!!! WHAT!!!
Also, the part where JP regained his memory was somewhat abrupt, not to mention JD throwing herself into the pool was totally taken from Lovers in Paris...(which was a far better drama than this one now that I think about it) That scene could've been drawn out abit more. Their reunion was pathetically short. If the producers can always have lingering glances at Jihoo (who, whenever he appears in all his gorgeousness, my mind blanks for the next 30 seconds at least) they should've be able to heighten the dramatic tension of that scene. That should've been the climax of the final episode, but it was a total let down.
And onto the ending...just...just...anti-climactic to say the least. My best friend and I were like...did we just waste over 25 hours of our lives (prob more if you include the rewatches) on THAT? My heart did not flutter, I did not feel emotionally connected to them at all. After that, I had to rewatch all my favourite scenes in MG and MG2 and the various mvs to reassure myself of my love for Hanadan which had nearly fizzled and died with BoF. Sigh.
Postscript:
I have decided that MG/MG2 is still my favourite version, despite the awkward acting, low budget, and rubbish production value. While MG2 can totally be FF in the middle, the beginning was pretty good, and Episode 28 (which has one of the BEST BEST dramas scenes ever IMHO, and the lines we so damn good!!) more than made up for it. Even though it's been years since I watched that scene, rewatching it that night after BoF still made me cry uncontrollably and left me heavy hearted all night, AND made me believe that despite everything, DMS and SC were always meant to be together. There was nothing in 25 episodes of BoF that made me feel remotely like that at all. I mean, I went "awwww" alot at the early JD/JP episodes, but there was nothing that was so powerful, so raw, so strong... I am totally rewatching MG/MG2 this weekend.
Post post script:
AND they had to have Jihoo's grandfather die. As if his life wasn't tragic enough. GIVE HIM A BREAK ALREADY! Honestly, all I remember of the show is Jihoo and how much I want to hug him and smother him with love. LOL. Sigh, I completely missed the point of the show!!!
(sorry for the long rant, I had to get this out of my system!)

Date: 2009-04-04 04:45 am (UTC)And don't get me started on Ji Hoo and his tragedy. Urgh.
MG is my favorite too (though I do love the jdrama as well). I haven't watched MG2 but want to check out the scene you mention now - what is it, spoil me! :)
I know about Lovers in Paris theft and ugh - every time I think the writer can't hit a new low, she does. By the end I just hated the two main characters...

Date: 2009-04-04 06:37 am (UTC)Oh, I really shldn't spoil it for you because you really NEED to watch it and experience the emotion...haha
BUT...
So basically...Shancai has moved to this remote village somewhere, and Lei goes to look for her. They talk and he gives her the ring that he found (the cursed one that DMS bought her in Barcelona), and she says that she's ready to let go of him...and throws the ring away. They are walking in a forest.
Of course DMS had to drive up to look for them, cos he had finally regained his memory (and had for awhile, but oh...u can watch this part), and guess what, he's on that same forest path too, AND finds the ring on the floor.
AND then he sees Lei ask Shancai to go back to Japan with him, and sees Lei kiss Shancai and Shancai not really resisting...(I mean, Zaizai is so cute, who wld!) and he has that pained look Jerry does so well.
Lei and Shancai go back to where they were staying and their friends tell them that a guy came to look for them and had just left. Of course they immediately knew it was DMS, and went to look for him.
Cue to awesome showdown between DMS and Lei. OH YOU HAVE YOU WATCH THIS.
The lines were so good. I'm not sure how well the English subs are, but trust me when I say that the original lines are so heartbreakingly good (altho taken out of context, they would actually be crazy cheesy, but hey, I love cheese!)
The climax of the episode follows where SC and DMS finally acknowledge each other and what they've been through and wonder if this is the end of the road for them. (I can't bear to spoil the rest for you...go watch!)
(I must've watched this scene at least 10 times and I still cry, I still cry after all these years)
P.S. I've always felt that Lei did actually love Shancai, but never to that crazy extent that Jihoo did, (I mean, Jihoo was pining for her for crying out loud.) nor in the same way...hmm, I mean, sure he loved her romantically, but I think more than that, he loved her as sister and as an extension of himself...hmm, more agape than eros? I don't know...but I feel that this is exactly why, despite their long seperation, the DMS/SC relationship could still work and that we are still able to believe in it.
