You guys, I am so in love with Personal Taste! I was so disappointed with the beginning (roughest beginning ever, IMO) but now I am so so so very glad I stuck with it - it makes me grin and sniffle and swoon and is just so very very awesome. Everyone's settled into their roles, the chemistry is cracking, I know the characters and care for them (by now I am madly in love with both Jin Ho and Gae In because by now I understand both the reserved, prickly JH and the wounded oddball Gae In), and there is delicious angst overlaying the cracky concept. SO GOOD.

Plus, the shipping! OMG!

Sometimes they are wacky in evening clothes.

Sometimes they hold hands as he protects her pride and honor.

Sometimes they hug.

And sometimes share a bed.

Sometimes he takes care of her when she needs it.

Sometimes the roles are reversed.

And sometimes...things just happen.

(You know, in profile and with that hair, Lee Min Ho really does look like Jerry Yan!)

I'm going to marathon this during the summer, because of the slow start and my own schedule. I'm so glad to hear it is picking up. But, oh, remember how you thought it was horrible? lol. Never judge a show by the bad first four episodes.

But I think it's a really huge problem to have a bad start - I persevered because I am a LMH fangirl, but they are going to totally lose viewers unless they are hardcore LMH or SYJ fans because of those early eps - a lot of people won't stick around to discover that it gets great later on. A rocky first ep (a la Tamra) is one thing but 4 - that's pushing it. This is actually the slowest start drama I've seen ever outside of those 50+ eps sageuks. Starting ep 5 it's awesome and 6 totally owns me but the first 4 eps lost them viewers, I bet. It's a pity because it gets great after that.

I agree with you - a slow or awkward start makes me tune out. I try to give all dramas a chance (3-5 episodes), and after that, I'm out. Frankly, PT just had some bad writing at the start. I'd image someone spoke with the writer about pushing things forward. The drama is based on a novel, but even the novel seems to have gone faster in terms of plot and character development.

Because, I have that kind of time, I looked up the ratings. It started with a 12.7%, went down for episode two by one percent, then came back up for episode three. The ratings have been going between 12.2% and 13% since episode three; they go up and down weekly. But, I do think the slow first episode hurt the overall ratings. :(

Yeah - I think the slow start hurt it. Especially since one of its competitors, CU, started with such a bang. PT's ratings aren't much higher than Prosecutor Princess which shouldn't be the case because even though PP is my favorite of W/Th dramas, its cast is nowhere near A-list as the PT cast.

Honestly, even with my LMH love, I would have given up by end of ep 3 (the sequence of eating out/drinking with the two mains was nails-on-chalkboard horrid) if it wasn't for the fact that people kept telling me it gets better. But yes, the first 3-4 eps had flawed writing, flawed directing and, worst of all, utterly horrible editing. There is only so much the actors can do to compensate. I don't know what happened but it's like another drama starting in ep 5 - things got cracking, plot started moving, characters became 3D, directing and editing became much better and the writing as well. It's a genuinely good drama now, but I am afraid too late for any major ratings upswing.

Links are broken on viikii - I keep refreshing like a pathetic, obsessive maniac.

Oh, that sucks. The end of ep 7 was when I went from "Hmm, this drama seems to be improving." to "OMFG YESSSSSSSS!".

So basically, get thee to episode 7.

7 is still dead on viikii. I'll just wait for withs2 then :(

I honestly think starting ep 5 it's as if they got new crew - the drama is entirely different quality-wise from before.

If you do, a word of warning - ff through the first 4 eps. They are deeply flawed, at best. From then on it's like a different drama. A really great one!

I find it so amusing he looks like Jerry Yan :)

yeah, I'm saving it for when it's out with subs, it's easier to skip around than on viikii. I just don't have the patience.

Date: 2010-04-25 09:12 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Yes, even though I now adore PT, any ep with ex-bf and ex-friend talking their boring talk gets an automatic skip - I just don't care about their evil whiny selves. I find it easy to skip on viikii too though - I can see by the side panel of subs where the scene ends.

Still, prefer withs2.

If you do decide to give it another chance, my earnest advice is to skip eps 1-4 and go straight for 5+

I'm actually a bit disappointed to hear that PT gets better; that adds one more drama to my Giant List of Doom.

I thought I was safe ignoring PT.

LOL. Well, you are safe ignoring first 4 eps.

I've never skipped an episode of a drama before, but I may do exactly that with PT. I've read the recaps at Dramabeans; that's good enough!

I just watched the eighth episode since it had the cameo by Yoon Eun-hye. I was really surprised that this is turning out to be quite different from the really slow start that I got.

I only saw until the second episode and it felt like a really, really long hot summer in the desert.

But things are looking up. :)

Glad to know it gets better! I'll be watching ep. 5 later. I actually watched the first 4 eps thinking: "Ok, I'm liking this, but I hope it improves."

He does look like Jerry Yan! I was searching for DWL stills on Google and thought I saw a pics of LMH. Turns out one was, but the other was of Jerry Yan. XD

Dang. But why did I read this post of yours? hehehe! I must admit...I smiled and felt all giggly as I was reading through this.

Hmmmm...LMH. How lucky can SYJ get?

Just random thought: Out of the Korean F4, three of them has been paired to older women.

LMH to SHJ
KHJ to Hwangbo
Kim Bum to Park Jin Hee

;P

I'm glad you like it. I was seriously doubting my own taste because everyone hated it. Sure, it's still very rough and I don't care at all about the side-plots. But Jin Ho and Kae In are cute together and they're finally showing some depth. Especially Kae In is shaping up a lot. Me likes ^^
Can't wait to watch last week's episodes :)

It's gotten a lot better IMO. I agree, side plots are still boring but I find that to be true in most kdramas. I am so glad I stuck with this one.

OMG OMG OMG

*hyperventilating mode

They kiss they kiss!!!

And if I have to be honest with myself, I must admit LMH have so much more chemistry with SYJ than GHS. Maybe GHS is just too reserved or something.

Could you please tell me which ep is this kiss? Infamous Ep 7?

If so...off to download now hehehe!

waw dangermousie thx for the recap... this was better than javabeans(the ep 7 repcap wasn't as good as they usually do)...

P.S. I didn't dared to read your reply after my ramblings against PP (love it but my obsession goes to PT)

BTW I'm watching Chuno ... 4 eps and its all gone ... waw this drama is indeed a superkdrama... until now I love Daegil and I'm crazy in love with Tae Ha.. how could a woman choose...can I have both of them?? please!!!!... NOW
