1. I've been reading stuff on Veronica Mars...I am going to have fun with the angst. Though I don't think that the characters need mysteries or love triangles. Instead, what they should have is a triangle for who will get the most of a therapist's time. With all those issues, they shouldn't be walking around at all, but instead be under heavy meds. Maybe I am a wimp though, and rape, murder and abuse are a general standard of life where they come form :P
If I were Veronica, I'd move away from the town where everyone "knows your name" so I could have some sort of peaceful, un-haunted life. I'd also find a boyfriend who is laid-back, sane, and has never heard the words "Lilly Kane." As it is, I don't think any of her potential candidates can meet those very basic criteria. Let's put it this way, when your two best prospects in that area are your dead best friend's brother and your dead best friend's boyfriend, you probably need to get out more. :D Of course, that would make for a really boring viewing experience, so bring on the angst!
2. I've been rewatching Firefly in preparation for Serenity. It's even better the second way around. My Mal/Inara burneth strong: that bit in the Premiere when he tells her to get away in her shuttle, and to save herself from the reavers and he touches her shoulder? Whoa. Crazy crazy chemistry. Also, I don't find Simon annoying (as I did when I watched the beginning for the first time) because now I know what makes his character tick and his desperate gentleness almost makes me cry.
My husband's observation on Zoe/Wash: It's as if Kendra married Xander. Too true.
3. I am also reading Robin McKinley's "Sunshine." It's good for about first half and then falls apart. That seems to be a problem with her books: "Deerskin" became almost unreadable. I think I'll just stay away from her in the future, though the tale of a post-apocalyptic baker (don't read this when hungry) is not without its fun. I have to give her points for not making vampires, even Con who the heroine is friends with, sexy. While Angel and Spike were smoking hot, I never understood the general principle that men who are dead and are on liquid diet are Teh Hot.
4. Speaking of vampires, the newest addition to the Undead and ___ series is out. In hardback, so will have to wait. I find the thought of Minnesota, shoe-obsessed vampires amusing.
5. BSG is on tomorrow. And I almost forgot even though I love it. That is why I need TiVo except for the whole "not watch much TV" thing. I am such a bad TV watcher because of my obsessiveness. If I can only sate it once a week, I lose interest. I need a steady diet, like all of Roswell in psychotic two-week span.
6. There are no Bolly movies I want to see until November. Bah!
7. "Julius Caesar" with Marlon Brando as Antony is really really excellent and worth seeking out.

I really want to see that. Even though the historical Antony was a bit of an ass, seeing Brando in his prime play him, and that wonderful speech . . . Maybe I'll have to special order it.

Date: 2005-09-22 03:54 pm (UTC)Oh yes. You wouldn't think Brando would work as Antony because he has such a contemporary vibe, but he does an amazing job: the whole play (in this version) feels very contemporary, sharp and hard edged. And then you add James Mason as Brutus and the whole thing is....guuuuuh.

Date: 2005-09-22 07:25 pm (UTC)Firefly is addictive. The first ep or two you go "hmmmm...this is kinda...not good" and then before you know it you are sucked and your soul is gone forever. Or something like that...

Actually, I liked S3. Well, all the Isabel parts were boring, but that's the advantage of DVD and the FF button. And the M/M went rather bizarre. But since I was such a L/M shipper, I was in Dreamer heaven...
