dangermousie: (Love Shuffle - girrrrls by topazera)
[personal profile] dangermousie

I have checked out the first half of the currently airing jdrama Sunao ni Narenakute and I am madly in love, you guys! The kind of love I haven't felt since Love Shuffle.

SnN's story starts when five 20-something Tokyoites who follow each other on twitter decide to meet in real life. I am going to be using their screennames for ease.

They are "Haru" (Ueno Juri), a new school teacher, still on probation, a little clumsy but very grounded and forthright (I am madly in love with her already).

"Nakaji" (Eita), a professional photographer who it is hinted has a "past," and is someone who looks up to his dead father, a war photographer.

"Peach" (Seki Megumi) is Haru's best friend who is popular with men but is more troubled than Haru will ever be - she cuts herself and has also just discovered she is pregnant and the father wants nothing to do with her.

"Linda" (Tamayama Tetsuji) is an editor blackmailed for sexual favors by his chief editor.

"Doctor" (Hero Jaejoong) is a Korean who pretends he's a doctor on twitter but in reality is a medical equipment tech struggling to take care of his troubled sister and looked down upon because of his ethnicity.

And now their lives are going to intersect.

In some ways, the drama really reminds me of Love Shuffle, even though the plots are completely different - it has the same fresh, crisp colors and fast-paced vibe, the same ability to have mutiple main stories at once (as opposed to one main one and a few secondaries), it also deals with wounded 20-something urban professionals with secrets. It also gives me a wonderful OTP with warmth and genuine chemistry and great scenes together (including a piggy-back ride), something jdramas are normally not great on but this is (just as LS was). Oh, and it also has a sexy photographer, just like LS :P (Side note, this is the first time in my life I've found Eita sexy :P)

I love the filming.

Haru excited about a purse and Nakaji is excited about a camera.

Fate:

Fate again. They don't know who each other is and she overturns coffee on him and he assumes she's a pervert. LOL.

Meet up:

She is excited to meet Nakaji. Little does she know.

He is actually amused now:

It turns out they live nearby.

True job:

And a potential hook-up:

It's interesting to find out that the 'popular' and glamorous Peach cuts. I ship her with Linda already, is that wrong?

Nakaji walks Haru home because it may be dangerous. And she insists he apologizes for calling her a pervert. Heee.

And she hurts her foot and he totally piggybacks her. With all his bags! I died!

He takes her to his house and treats her knee:

And gets so enthusiastic about his new camera. I love a man into his work.

Putting on a bandaid:

She is all "eeeek? huh???" I love it. But they still drink tea and talk and how what she posted inspired him and just squish - like puppies!

Peach took Linda off for some one-night-stand but apparently he fell asleep before anything happened. I love her reaction - well, at least we can still be friends, if we slept together it would have been too awkward. I ship them.

I bet Nakaji's tattoo will be important in the future.

And so will the girl he is so eager to talk to.

No twitter drama for me under any circumstances.

I don't get the point of twitter itself tbh (outside of some fairly specific contexts like organizing street rallies) - why would I want to read others random minutia or assume they'd want to read mine?

The drama though is really good and is not about twitter.

Yes, but the people who use Twitter a lot (I don't object to it as a whole) = clearly insane in my book. Why would I want to watch something about insane people.

The drama though is really good and is not about twitter.

But then it just trying to ride the wave of popularity without thinking, like "You've got mail" reincarnations (there was even a jdrama I watched about it, but don't remember the name).

You see, I realized that I am so much of a title/blurb girl - you keep saying how good "Love Shuffle" is and I believe you and want to try it but then I think LOVE SHUFFLE and want to vomit (or think about Mr'Alexander walking in whilst I watch LOVE SHUFFLE and asking me if I am insane)

For the longest time I stayed away from Love Shuffle because it made me think of swingers which...eeeeewwwww. They have a right to their fun and I have a right to be disgusted by it.

Then I caved (mainly because the writer wrote Pride) and loved it and discovered there were no swingers. So yeah, titles are powerful.

Re: twitter. I just don't get it but almost everyone I know my age or younger is on it, so I just assume it's something I don't get but I can't think they are crazy otherwise I'd be forced to think half the Western world is nuts and I am not prepared for that yet :)

These people (in SNN) all seem to lack connection in their personal lives which is why they are on twitter - I can see that. Not my thing, but I can see how that would go.

Hee, take me right, I do have a twitter account (for work purposes :D), and I do know some pretty sane people who use it, but to a degree. The same with facebook - I use it for work purposes and such, but to use it too much posting about what you done every minute of the day = crazy.

These people (in SNN) all seem to lack connection in their personal lives which is why they are on twitter - I can see that. Not my thing, but I can see how that would go.

yes, this makes sense - this is what I mean by "crazy".

The fact that it's about Twitter hinders my desire to watch it, but... I love Megumi Seki so much. DX

On the flipside, I love Eita but how is he possibly sexy with his frizztastic hair? :P

It's not really about twitter - they meet up because of it but from then on it's not about twitter.

On the flipside, I love Eita but how is he possibly sexy with his frizztastic hair? :P

Hair is odd but he's sexy. Maybe it's his character.

"Side note, this is the first time in my life I've found Eita sexy"

RE:Eita is not beautiful in a classical way BUT he is ridiculously charming (He is unbelievably charismatic in the interviews and Japanese talk-variety shows)
BTW,according to some scientific study Tamayama Tetsuji aka Linda has the prettiest face among Japanese famous people (You know there is a legit(scientific) way to measure that, right?)
Interesting fact: Tamayama Tetsuji`s father is an ethnic Korean.

I've liked Eita before as an actor/character but this is the first time he's doing anything for me hormonally.

Tamayama Tetsuji aka Linda has the prettiest face among Japanese famous people (You know there is a legit(scientific) way to measure that, right?)

He really is very pretty so I can't quibble with that (even though I think Nagase is more handsome :P)

And really, he's half? I didn't know that!

If we are talking exclusively about Johnny’s -I like Okada Junichi better than Nagase (Okada has a better facial structure).
Okada is also a better actor (He is versatile- Nagase… not so much).
What I like the most is when Okada and Nagase are doing a drama together (Tiger& Dragon- have you seen it?!)!!!! LOL
AND
If you have time to spare you should watch Otonari- that is such an awesome movie (touching story- left a deep impression on me) - It is a romantic movie but it deals with some of the same social issues (like this drama)

P.S. DID YOU MANAGE TO WATCH NO REGRETS (KNG`s gay themed movie)?-I KNOW I am now going completely of topic, but I remembered a couple of people recommended the movie to you (I was one of them) AND I HAVE TO ASK.

Okada is a little too short for me, plus I find Nagase hotter. He's an excellent actor though, agreed.

YAY!!

Does Linda remind you of Lee Dong Gun? Every time he's on screen, that's all I see.

I loved the part where she goes into the grocery store and tells him, "Goodbye. . .forever" and then the look he gets when she says that and when she comes out he's still waiting! That was, ugh, so sweet. I can tell this OTP is going to make my heart ache.

You're only halfway through. There's A LOT more stuff that happens, and yes the tattoo means something but we don't know yet. Finish!! Seriously, there's like 43390893489034 other things that happen but it doesn't feel rushed to me.

ETA: ALSO YAY Eita is so freaking gorgeous to me. I don't know why. I guess he can look goofy at times but I randomly ran across this site that had all his modeling pictures and I fell in love. The man is probably my num 1 j-drama crush.

"Does Linda remind you of Lee Dong Gun?"

It`s the haircut!!!!
BUT when Tamayama Tetsuji`s hair is styled differently-Lee Dong Gun and Tamayama Tetsuji DO NOT look alike

It probably is the haircut. I'd have to see him without it, but as soon as he came on screen, I went OMG LEE DONG GUN!!

I think the Twitter premise is just for the sake of being current and trendy. The rest of it is classic Eriko Kitagawa ensemble drama -- think more "Orange Days" and less "Last Friends". I'm super excited to see how this drama progresses (I'm also in it for Jaejoong, who is so super earnest in this it HURTS).

Date: 2010-04-21 08:06 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Yes, that's what I thought.

I've never really seen Jaejoong before and he's so pretty it's unreal. I have no idea if he's had any surgery or not but I am almost more comfortable with the thought that he did (and a lot of it) because concept of someone having pretty anime features like this naturally is freaky.

(On more serious note - I feel so awful for his character!)

Date: 2010-04-21 08:32 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kitsune714.livejournal.com
Ah, the mystery of Jaejoong's face. So the adorable thing? Is that his face really HAS been like that forever (see: exhibit A). It just so happened that he didn't quite grow into it until he hit puberty. He has the voice of an angel, face of an anime prince, and yet, the grace of a fumbling toddler. He's my favorite, you have NO IDEA.

Also, he was in Eriko Kitagawa's Korean telecinema project, "Heaven's Postman" with Han Hyo Joo, which is super gorgeously filmed, and actually a very good movie (in that Korean romance movie vein, of course).

I feel for his character in this drama, because I know that (1) Ueno Juri won't love him (2) his "I'm not really a doctor" secret is going to get him into trouble later and (3) he's SO misunderstood! He's a classic Kitagawa trope in the theme of Nari in "Orange Days" (I'm a ladies man with a haunted past and disabled sibling!) or even "Tatta Hitotsu no Koi"'s Hiroto (I sacrifice my own pride in order to protect my family and equally disabled sibling!). I'm psyched.

Date: 2010-04-21 08:53 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
Wow, that is crazy!

I want to watch Heaven's Postman.

And yes, I don't see it ending too well for his character in this.

I am also shocked that he can act OK :)

Heh, butting it but I totally agree! His face is just too perfect. Completely symmetrical, gorgeous bone structure, EVERYTHING. I'm kind of completely jealous.

This drama really is like a combination of Love Shuffle/Orange Days. I haven't watched a jdrama since Love Shuffle so this kind of reminded me why I got into them in the first place. The show has tons of chemistry between all the main characters (friendship or otherwise) and it's comedic at all the right moments.

I'm pretty sure Eita's tattoo means he has something to do with yakuza. They're a big stigma in Japan, he wouldn't get it lightly, and with the company he appears to keep (staying vague as to not be spoilery) I'm definitely guessing gang or at least gang associations.

Date: 2010-04-21 08:54 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
The yakuza thing makes sense. Plus, he was good at kicking the thugs. Hmmm.

Is twitter really a big plot in here? I haven't watched it yet, but whenever I hear about it, I never think of twitter, I just think of Eita, Ueno Juri, and Jaejoong. I just can't wrpa my mind around a drama that could revolve around twitter.

I love Eita. He just looks so calm and honest in almost every drama I've seen him in. I think of him as awkward and gangly but still adorable.

Date: 2010-04-21 09:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] dangermousie.livejournal.com
No, it's not really about twitter. They meet because of it (they follow each other on twitter for a while and decide to meet in person) but the drama is not about twitter. Not sure how that would work.

From: [identity profile] itshelene.livejournal.com
I knew you would love it! I haven't been this excited about a jdrama in ages. It's funny because the term "Twitter drama" turned me off in the beginning as well, but I think Kitagawa picked it because it is HUGE in Japan, seeing as as 5 of the 70 million Twitter users in the world are Japanese, and they do tweet a lot. The drama itself had little to do with Twitter, but I thought it was funny that our OTP both tweeted after they had met each other at the cafe.

Haru: "These things do happen. Like, clouds suddenly cover the beautiful sky. I just encountered the worst man, ever."

Nakaji: "It DOES happen. I'm in the worst mood ever. I encountered the worst bitch, ever."

The title means "I can't be honest", which is so true for a lot of people online. The story will most likely be about how they gradually become more honest with each other.

I've seen some spoiler pics for the next episode and our OTP is probably in for a bumpy ride. So Jaejoong is not going to be mopey the whole drama through, even if he is never getting the girl in the end.

this drama is love.

i love how nonchalant Nakaji is after he makes a move on Haru. and it amuses me that the two converse onward as if that didn't even happen.

and ITA on Eita in this drama. although, i do want to fix his hair. in every drama i've seen him in it's looks like this or just various incarnations of it. i wish he'd try something different.
