BSG spoilers and my shippy views on such
Sep. 21st, 2005 11:57 amDon't click if you are not a spoiler whore as there are spoilers through 2.14
The latest spoilers I read for 2.14 really do indicate that
ysrith has uncanny prescience and would have been burned as a witch a few hundred years ago :P
Lee/Dee has indeed set sail full steam. Apparently there is some kind of hostage situation where someone who wants an eye for an eye wants them to hand Boomer over (more about it later) and Lee is seriously wounded and Billy notices how Dee hovers around the poor boy. Also, apparently Billy is shot by the end of that ep and we don't know if he survives, and we have Lee coming out of his unconsciousness with Dee over him. Yup, shippy all right!
What are my thoughts on that?
One word: hmmmmm.
I am rather amused at the thought of shipper flame wars, as (some) K/L shippers will go into a huge tizzy. I am not a K/L shipper, though if they happen, that's fine, so I won't be among them. I would have been by the end of S1, but since then the ship sort of lost steam for me. Anders and all that.
Much as I like my angst, I don't think L/K can have a healthy relationship at this point in time. She has way too many issues, and he is tangled in too many of them. I agree with
queenofthorns who mentioned a while back that he can't really have a conversation about his basic beliefs and that sort of thing the way he can with Laura. I don't think she really comprehends all of him (or he all of her, really), what makes him tick (the mutiny for example) and that does not an ideal relationship make. But I think Dee is in many ways similar to Lee. I can see them talking about it. In fact, Lee/Dee would be a lot healthier for the guy, though I still can't maintain too much fictional interest (though who knows, maybe she'll feel guilty about Billy and what not). But those make the best RL relationships, anyway.
Besides, if she can have Anders, he can certainly have Dee. I love them as friends though, so I hope that won't get messed up.
In other news, H/B is my ship of choice for the show anyway, so I guess it doesn't bug me one way or the other. As long as they don't kill Boomer off (or Helo). I was scared of that for a bit when I read the summary. Also, how long is the Cylon gestation period anyway?
But overall, the shippiness is not a big deal for me on this show. I have more of an intellectual than an emotional enjoyment with BSG anyway.

Date: 2005-09-21 04:03 pm (UTC)I think Ron will have to reduce the gestation period. There's no other way.

Yes, because considering each season is about 2 months give or take, she won't give birth until the 6th season or so, which is insane!

Date: 2005-09-21 04:24 pm (UTC)Indeed, the poor guy. K/L have a great chemistry but a relationship right now will be a train wreck. I do think Lee/Dee are quite compatible, and with no baggage. Does it mean they should spring for a white picket fence around his viper? No. I don't think what they'd have (if anything) will be a forever thing. But it doesn't mean they can't have a happy if temporary relationship.

Date: 2005-09-21 04:44 pm (UTC)Of course, I have a theory (a theory that is my own!) that maybe Dee is a Cylon. But I haven't gotten it all written down yet. . . .

Date: 2005-09-21 04:47 pm (UTC)Dee a Cylon? I don't know. Maybe one who doesn't know it...Hmmmm.
It's actually fun to like a show where I am not a rabid shipper (the way I was with Farscape or Firefly). Makes it so much more relaxing :)

Date: 2005-09-21 07:44 pm (UTC)Seemingly I have this amazing super-power where I channel storylines. It started when I predicted the Farscape season 2 finale plot-for-plot a few years ago, and then extended into books and other shows.
Or it could just be the fact that there are only 16 storylines in the world, and I have read the same source material as the author
I have decided that I am refusing to pay any attention to any shipper wars that may arise. Though seemingly I am gaining a bit of a reputation as a "Lee/Kara hater" :)
I have been prophylactically culling the f-list to avoid any potential fan-twittiness. And therefore can continue to be all about the one true pairing on the show - Lee/Angst!
BTW I agree with you, I don't watch this show for the shippiness. I watch it because it is a great show. It meets all my intellectual needs for a TV show. I love all the characters. I mean what does it say about me when my favourite characters are Lee and Tigh?

Date: 2005-09-21 08:32 pm (UTC)It says you are a woman of taste :) I too find Tigh fascinating. He's flawed but I don't get the Tigh hate. His flaws are what makes him interesting...

LOL! Everyone knows that your true OTP is Lee/Angst :P

Dee/Adama. Now there's a scary ship!
I am actually glad I distanced myself a bit from K/L, because by the end of S1 I was so into them, all these latest spoilers (or potential spoilers) would have been driving me insane. I think the 5 eps where they were separate cooled me down a bit...
Any L/D thing isn't going to be the OTP, soulmates thing (or I wouldn't like it). Since Kara still needs to move past the whole Anders thing, Lee might be having fun himself as well. Or not. As long as they write it in character and consistently, I'm OK with it.

Date: 2005-09-22 11:27 am (UTC)I especially love it when we get Lee & Tigh interacting. They are both very similar. If Lee went down the wrong path, you could see him ending up just like that

Date: 2005-09-22 02:08 pm (UTC)You know, I never thought that, but you are right.
Only Tigh's abstract ideal is a person: Adama.

Date: 2005-09-22 02:11 pm (UTC)You're obviously more easy going than me. I think if I found that my opinions had been transposed over to a list I am not a member off, without someone asking me, I'd have words to say. But then, me cranky!
Just warning you in case you get visitations. Someone off the list already found me through the post, as they even left in your comments about me being prescient :)
Which may not be a good thing as I am poking fun at the over-reaction and will probably attract the psychos.

Date: 2005-09-22 02:29 pm (UTC)I am severely laid back in RL, so I guess it transposes to the net. Short of someone stealing my fic (though why?) or personally insulting me, none of this stuff bugs me.

Date: 2005-09-23 03:57 pm (UTC)Hee! You tell it like it is, honey. The rest of them will come around -- or, they should if they know what's good for them. ;) And the thought of K/L, L/D shipper wars makes me think that someone needs to mass-produce some Vicodin for the BSG community, just in case.
And where did you get that icon? It's so prett-ay!

Date: 2005-09-23 04:05 pm (UTC)Oh, I agree. They both need to work out their respective problems before they can settle down to sunshine and babies and a house in a grain-filled field. Don't get me wrong: I would love it if they got together, but it'd be nice for the show to do it right instead of all rushed and half-assed.
As for L/D... I don't get why everyone's getting so upset about it. They're so pretty together. And Lee needs sex, *badly.* And it's Dualla! Lee! Billy, jealousy, and Starbuck too (if she finds out)! Angst muffins for everyone! What's not to like?

Date: 2005-09-23 05:40 pm (UTC)Yes, it's pretty clear that middle of S2 is much too early for them to get together (as it would be in any show that was not primarily a romantic drama). And I can't imagine either of them being celibate until True Love comes knocking. And yes, the angst would be lovely!
