My favorite Oh My Lady scene
Apr. 8th, 2010 02:47 pmYes, I confess that I, like every fangirl out there, squeed up a storm when Siwon's sexy superstar and Chae Rim's plucky ahjumma, both drunk out of their minds, finally locked lips in ep 6.
I am only human.
But (and this may shock you) this was not my favorite scene of the episode. No, my favorite scene was actually the sequence involving the musical play. There was just so much amazing goodness there:
* Yoora (the Other Girl) is so insecure and self-obsessed that she makes jabs at Gae Hwa even though (1) she is not in love with Min Woo, much as she likes the attention (2) Gae Hwa is hardly a threat being a decade older and not sexy (3) Yoora herself is the object of Min Woo's crush which she knows and he knows Min Woo is inviting GH along not because of mad passion for her but because he's a nice guy. I love even more that when she tries to put GH down in the ladies' restroom, GH just lets it all slide off her, like water from a duck's back - she totally ignores Yoora's comments about her lack of looks and when Yoora digs that GH shouldn't misunderstand Min Woo's kindness, she placidly replies she is too old to misunderstand. LOL. Awesome.
Also, Yoora is really not bright because she keeps up her needling in front of Min Woo and I love how he slowly noticed and gets more and more puzzled and uneasy - the guy may have a crush on her and is no Einstein but he's not a dimwit and, above all, he is genuinely kind - so this is getting to bug him. Yoora is an idiot.
* All the undercurrents with Producer and his Wife. She is cheating and he knows and she knows that he knows (phew!) but they have to maintain this polished 'together' facade even though you can sense that underneath they just want to be elsewhere.
* How much Gae Hwa enjoys the musical - with the immediacy of a child. So does Min Woo. Not so Yoora - she looks totally bored (because people are not looking at her for once) and annoyed (because Min Woo invited Gae Hwa). I like these little unobtrusive flashes of how compatible GH and MW are.
* When Yoora starts her little digs at the party and the conversation (by her steering it) diverts into topics in which GH cannot participate. It reminded me of those scenes in Spring Waltz where the other 3 main characters would talk high-class nonsense and normal heroine would be left out. I love that GH just wanders off to eat and tucks in with determination.
* Her horrible slimeball husband is there - oh, how I wanted to kill him. The worst thing about all the horrible things to say to her - he genuinely means them. He cannot comprehend how someone as 'frumpy' and 'ahjummaish' as his wife would be at the swanky VIP party, he insults her new job, he is basically doing everything he can think of to demean her and drag her down because he hates the thought of her doing well - she should be just his discarded ex-wife and days of her marriage to him should be the best days of her life! He especially goes ballistic when he sees her with Min Woo (after first confrontation and before the other, she wanders back to her party and Min Woo is so boyishly adorable getting all these appatizers and feeding them to her). Ex-Husband is not jealous or anything - for one thing he couldn't imagine anyone could find his ex attractive - no, he is just unhappy that she gets to hobnob with more famous people than he can. And so he is saying all these awful things, and the music cuts out and everyone hears the last thing he says, and as GH is frozen in horror, someone bumps into her and spills their drink and husband stalks off? Diediedie pigperson. I love that Min Woo unthinkingly, unhesitatingly starts to go to her and that Yoora stops him, clutching his arm and saying that people are watching. I bet she couldn't care less about scandal for MW, she just doesn't want to lose attention. And then she basically manuvers right away that he has no choice but to drive her back without stopping to look for GH.
* Of course since it all leads to MW and GH getting drunk together and smoochies, this scene becomes even better!

Date: 2010-04-08 07:24 pm (UTC)I didn't feel much for the whole producer/cheating storyline until the scene where they both went home and went straight to their separate rooms, no dialogue, not even looking at each other. That made me sad.

Date: 2010-04-08 09:11 pm (UTC)I loved that she was so starry-eyed about the actor and Min Woo didn't like it (latent jealousy? :P) and was showing off that he could sing the song and she was "Oh, though you have no acting talent now I know why you're a star." LOLOLOLOL his face.

Date: 2010-04-08 09:55 pm (UTC)I wonder if why the kid is mute ever going to be an issue (as in "aha, Mommy isn't off to get married, she died of AIDS and that is why the little girl is traumatized. And now you have AIDS too, Min Woo and we are in Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake" or is it just a mcguffin).

fskdjlfhsdkfhsdf I am a terrible human being for laughing.
I assume the mute thing is just so it will be a Big and Touching Moment the first time she speaks, ala Mel Gibson's daughter in The Patriot.

As long as it's not Cinderella Unni, I can live with it. I'll just scroll down if I see a potential spoiler :D

Date: 2010-04-08 09:00 pm (UTC)Min woo is so boyish. That is sweet! When she dumped the ramyun because he complain they were too soggy, he looked surprised and frightened as a little boy ! :-)
As for the ex-husband, I would gladly light the fire..... The producer's wife is amazing (in a bad way...) As the producer, do you think he will use Gae Hwa against his wife??? Though Min woo seemed taken aback, hehehe....

I laughed so hard. His bluster is only a badly put-on veneer. Heeee.
Re: producer. I don't know - I think it's more he's going to like GH for real.

Date: 2010-04-09 06:37 am (UTC)Argh. Your squee for ep 6 make me want to watch more so much. ;_; How is Gaehwa so awesome? I've adored her since episode 1. And her beating Minwoo with a vacuum. XD

Date: 2010-04-09 03:32 pm (UTC)I am watching it on viikii. Do you have a viikii plug-in installed? If you do not, you may have problems with viewing youtube sourced videos. It's really quick and easy to insall. Let me know if you need tips on how to find it on viikii main page.

Date: 2010-04-10 06:08 am (UTC)Thanks for the tip! I'll try the plugin, though this is the first time I've had such an extended timeout period trying to watch a drama. I guess it's the power of Siwon fangirls flooding the site. ^^
