"How dare this actress act opposite my hottie?" - the crazed fangirl edition

I don't visit dramabeans very often because my tastes are usually pretty opposite of hers.

But I was tempted to see what she had to say about Personal Taste as that drama seemed up her alley and was rewarded by delicious insanity in the comments to the recap of ep 2.

Short version "Lee Min Ho is hot, how dare he be paired with an actress who is not me? GTFO you hideous elderly hag, i.e. not me!"

Just finished watching ep 3 raw and really feel sorry for Lee Min Ho to be paired up with that spinster Son Ye Jin. She’s not only ugly but also does not have any sense of fashion. Her hairdo is horrible!! Her acting is stupid and overdid it. It’s my first time watching her and she will never be on my list. It’s so painful watching her scenes because she tried so hard to look and act young.

The production co made a mistake picking her as a female lead. They probably can not afford Song Kye Hyo so they picked her after spending quite a bit on Lee Min Ho. One of the main reason I am still watching the show because of Lee Min Ho and I can feel his pain to be paired up with her. We can also feel his pain from his hold back.

saw the Personal Preference/Taste, My gosh! i think Lee Min-Ho’s leading lady partner, Son Ye-Jin looks like his older sister, and i don’t see any chemistry here. I don’t think they are a good couple. She’s not even really BEAUTIFUL. SON YE-JIN, ARE YOU PRETENDING TO HAVE A 22-YR OLD YOUNGER FACE?

Son Ye Jin is a good actress, yeah right! But are we talking about this TV series only about acting? How about the chemistry? I DON’T THINK THEY FIT OR LOOK GOOD TOGETHER! Lee Min-Ho really looks younger and she really looks his older sister!

The actress here, who plays the leading lady of Lee Min Ho, i don’t think looks the same age of Lee Min HO, he is 22 years old, his partner is almost thirty right! What’s this TV series, younger brother and older sister romance! Nge!!! Where’s the chemistry?

I’m very disappointed with the first 2 episodes of PT. I don’t think So Yeh Jin fits the role as she looks too plain and at times overact . I think LMH is prettier than her in this drama . She does not look good without make up.Instead of feeling and pitying her when she got dumped by her boyfriend, I felt nothing at all. Lee Min Ho is I guess ok but seems to be holding back a little. The story line is too predictable and borrowed from Full House and Coffee Prince but Song Hye Ko and Yoo Eun Hye are both adorable in those comedic roles. PT might be different if YEH or SHK were the leading ladies here as the chemistry would be better and might be believable.PT is no match for Cinderella’s Sister. I even prefer The Birth of The Rich and Dong Yi to PT.

I laughed so hard. I keep hoping the thread will keep going. This makes the ladies posting about how Chae Rim is too ancient and ugly to attract Siwon in Oh My Lady seem positively tame.

The thing is - of all the dramas I am following this season I like PT least. And I don't care for the heroine too much - not big on the dim clumsy type. So I am hardly an outraged PT/Son Yejin fangirl. But ahahahahahaha - (1) clearly 30 = time to dig a grave and lie down in it; (2) the fact that Son Ye Jin is vastly more famous/acclaimed than Lee Min Ho (or that there is only so much any actress can do with the role as written) is not applicable in the delusion universe; (3) Lee Min Ho fangirls are insane. Make that INSANE.

Ha-ha-ha! I saw the same today. I didn't dare to venture into "Oh My Lady", though. I agree with you - any other opinion (I have checked) on anything - I deeply disagreed with her even when i was agreeing.

I didn't venture into OML either (the way I don't into Chuno) because I really love OML so didn't want to read bizarreness. Her blog singlehandedly ruined YAB for me so I tend to stay off anything that would lead to fandom insanity for something I actually do care about. But PT - I like it fine but I am not in love or anything so I was curious. I was rewarded by the above.

Yes. Even the few dramas she and I both liked, it was for very different reasons.

Could be. But plenty of slightly-older-woman dramas do fine (Kim Sam Soon, Dal Ja etc) and in this drama age difference isn't even addressed - I think they are supposed to be roughly the same age. I don't know.

Actually, I think it may be a matter of *gasp* quality - of the 3 W/Th dramas, I think PT is the weakest - CU has both an A-list cast and great writing/direction/cinematography. PP's cast isn't as A-list as Taste's but the writing, the set-up, and the characters are MUCH better, IMO. PT has potential but it feels oddly all-over-the-place - the pacing is especially weird.

I wonder if he'll ever grow out of the BOF thing. It makes me think that maybe it's better to build up small yet memorable roles instead of having an UBER POPULAR ROLE. Hopefully after this drama he'll do something more serious; I think that's the only way I'd watch a drama of his.

There'd have to be something really really compelling/interesting/new from PT to make me watch it; it honestly seems like any old rom-com.

PT has some very funny scenes but it's not really grabbing me yet. Honestly, if I had to cut a drama from my list, this would be it.

LMH is a good actor (and this drama is miles better than BOF) but I really wish he'd do a serious dark drama as his next. I believe he was offered Kim Jae Wook's role in Bad Guy and turned it down, and while I can see why (secondary role v. main role opposite SYJ), I really wish he took it - I want to see him actually stretch his acting chops.

altough a drama with Kim Nam Gil and Lee Min Ho... too much hotness in a single drama...with 2 kinds of male- beauties and I probably watch it 3 times in the morning and 4 times in the evening

I must admit it LMH is handsome in a classical way (KNG looks soft or wild, but never in between),however...It doesn't seems to me that you couldn't pair LMH with an ugly ducky(even worse than Sohn Ye-jin's KAE-IN ..c'mon ppl is acting)...in our daily life..we often see drop dead gorgeus guys married with fat or ugly girls...and even often fabulous girls married with really ugly guys

in BBF was a scene where the girl was almost beaten by the crazy fans of a male-model...for us might look weird....there's no smoke without fire...

btw not all the kactors are married with beauties (if are married)

Bad Guy with LMH would look like a teenagers fight again ... I understand why they offered him first time the role,KNG recognizes it... LMH is the star, but you are right I love (drop dead in love) KNG's acting... hope he won't dissapoint me this time ;)

Man, fangirls can be seriously bitchy when it comes to the older actress/younger actor thing huh? I've watched plenty of older woman/younger man dramas and in a lot of the cases, it's the woman who's the more experienced and very often plays the far better role imo.

And all that bullcrap about her looking older - SHE IS OLDER. And yeah, that scattered look probably isn't helping her but it's the way the character is and a foil to Min Ho's pretty anal artchitect. Ok, so the chemistry i'm not feeling yet but to be honest, as long as it isn't as bad as Sore wa Totsuzen then i'm happy.

I can just see the ugly fan girls from all over the world in front of their PCs being all offended at Son Ye Jin playing a role!! When somebody writes something like the above comments you quoted, I immediately know they can't be more than 16, as they are completely unable to see that she is playing a fcuking role! It's too stupid really. I can't remember being that stupid when I was a teenager. Sure I was immature, but this is just ridiculous. The truth is that the vast majority of them will never be half as pretty as she is when they are 30 and in real life she is drop dead gorgeous.

I agree with you. She is really really pretty! As for the drama, I am not hooked yet but I am slightly hopeful her character will grow and mature as the drama progresses. If not I am afraid this one will get the ax (even with LMH in it) as there are too many good dramas to watch these days.

Oh, fangirls! You're insane and possibly obsessive ways make me mourn for the future. The actress is beautiful! Yes, the character has bad hair and needs new clothes, but I'm sure a makeover is coming.


I'm not a huge fan of this drama, though it's a good thing to watch when bored, but I think these fangirls are crazy. I remember reading somewhere that they wanted Gu Hye Seon for the role. What?


SYJ is a brilliant actress - loved her in Alone in Love, A Moment to Remember, The Classic, etc. The woman has won about fifteen acting awards in the last ten years. She can act, she is doing a good job with the material she's been given, and she and LMH could be very cute together once their characters get romantic.

What's with all these fangirls getting pissed about older actresses being paired with their idols? You pair popular people with popular people - and most of the actresses right now, that can lead a show, are 25+. Get over it, fangirls.

She's, what, 5 years older than him in real life? The age difference works really well in this drama: he's younger, but more mature in terms of life experience, she's older and more naive, but her innocent way of looking at the world is just what he needs to understand life isn't all business. The character fit well together - I don't care how old the actors are.

Yeah, the only famous under 25s actress I can think of are Moon Geun Young, Han Hyo Joo and possibly Go Ara. And Yoona but I'd rather claw my eyeballs out.

I do regularly visit Dramabeans, even though our tastes don't perfectly line up. (Or match at all except when it come to the quirky and off-beat.) I generally enjoy her reviews and they help me decided which shows to tune in and which I can skip. But I rarely read the comments for the recaps unless I'm really into the show, so I had no idea this was going on!

The comments for Smile, You and Wish Upon A Star were a lot of fun because everyone was discussing the characters and speculating about what was going to come next, but I haven't bothered with Personal Taste... or even Oh My Lady, because I'm not really caught up in the plot yet. And now it turns out even if I had, it would be just a bunch of fangirls more into the actors (not actresses) than the plot. Sigh. That's a shame.

I laughed SO HARD reading all of this; so thanks for that. Honestly, I have to agree with you about PT being one of my least favourite kdramas this season, but dramas like these usually start out slow. I am, of course, referring to the dimwitted-heroine type who wants the hero to make her a woman. *shrugs* I just think the writers could have done a better job. The fact that lovely AND talented SYJ can appear so ungainly and dimwitted is purely a testament to her acting ability. I'd like to point out to dramabeans that SYJ has won fifteen awards since her debut in "Delicious Proposal".
