Sometimes I feel about a 100 years old

People on soompi are complaining that they cannot buy the romance of Oh My Lady because Chae Rim looks like a 'really old woman who sells things at a market,' 'in her 40s at least.' (So, presumably, how could the hero want her).

Leaving aside the whole issue of 40s as clearly being so decrepit as to be fit for a nursing home (seriously, the posters have GOT to be in their early teens), are they telling me this is what a 40-something looks like?



Chae Rim is barely 30 and even with the hair from hell they gave her to 'age' her up to 35, she does not look much older than someone in her early 30s. A very very pretty someone in her early 30s.

To claim this is what a 'very old' 40-something looks like who is so hideous that no attractive man would ever look at her?

Ooooo-kay.

This is one of the things that is making watching these current dramas on viikii really hard. The comments on Chae Rim's (and Son Ye Jin's) looks are really trying my patience.

I will say that Chae Rim's hair is pretty bad. Though if they just did away with the bangs it would be a million times better.

I wonder about people sometimes. I'm guessing that a lot of those commenters are Super Junior fans. A LARGE amount of kpop fans are like, 14 (incidentally this is one of the things I hate the most about the kpop fandom, being over 20 is like being ancient to the baby!fans).

I think it's ridiculous. Even if she were in her 40's, so what!? But beyond that, there's no way Chae Rim looks old. Plus, she's utterly gorgeous. Siwon would be lucky to have her ;P

Yes - we are supposed to believe they are basically 5 yrs older than their real ages. I bet the only reason they shifted ages up is because if he had a 5 yr old daughter at 23, would mean he knocked a girl up at 17 which is probably a huge taboo in Korea (they seem to be dead set on not allowing any even indirect hint that highschoolers have sex), and probably because 35 looks 'more desperate.'

I can buy them a few years older than their age - I'll just pretend Chae Rim was genetically lucky and Siwon looks really manly for a boyband guy, but yeah - 28/35 is a little hard to believe sometimes. They looooove having younger play older though, all the time so I am used to it.

Also, what do you think of her ex-husband? I totally love that he's a loser slimeball but in a way less rage-inducing way than Last Scandal's hubby.

Yup - they keep going on and on how such and such Chae Rim/Siwon a scene was supposed to be cute but it just looked horrible and it makes me roll my eyes like mad. I am the same age Chae Rim is in RL and I (without false modesty) consider myself attractive, but there is no way I look as good as she does and I am younger than what her character is supposed to be!

Oh, I can just imagine comments on Son Ye Jin - ooooh, messy hair and she dares to stand next to the precious precious LMH. Especially since most viikiiers have probably never seen her in anything else before.

Her hair is horrid, I think on purpose to give the frumpy ahjumma look. because let's face it, if they gave her lovely hair, it would become more of 'why is Siwon and the rest of males of Seoul not swooning at her feet asap?' thing. In promos she had a different, very cute hairstyle, so I have hopes for a makeover.

Even if she were in her 40s, I agree - OYS who was the female lead in La Dolce Vita was 0ver 40 and she was gorgeous and stylish and I'd crush on her. But Chae Rim barely even looks 30! A 30 yr old would be lucky to look like that!

I mean, I understand, Siwon is in a boyband, is hot and takes his shirt off a lot - that's gotta create a rabid fanbase. But seriously, tween girl, he isn't going to suddenly fly to wherever you are and declare undying love. Not to mention, this is a drama, not RL. He isn't suddenly going to run off with Chae Rim because he's supposed to be in love with her in the drama.

OH GOD I HATE HIM. Not as much as Last Scandal guy (it would be hard to be worse) but he's so condescending it sets my teeth on edge. I hate that smug whiny thing that kdrama sleazeballs do, like "whyyyyyyy do you make me treat you like this, baby? don't you realize my life is hard too?" And then they aish and aigoo like they're starting a wind orchestra. I HOPE HE GETS EATEN BY PIRANHAS.

I kinda love ex-husband as a character precisely because I loathe him so as a person - because he's such a realistic scumbag.

It's like he is shiftless and does well because of family money. And he cheated on Chae Rim so she divorced him. And he said horrible things about her spending money on her mom's illness and he doesn't care about his daughter and has no problem going away by himself leaving her in the house alone only with ramen to eat. But he didn't beat Chae Rim or swindle her or anything - it's such a realistic nastiness.

I want Chae Rim show up as Mrs Hot and Rich Movie Star and smack him in the face.

I think Chae Rim could play any age! Maybe it's the hair that's freaking them out. I'm sixteen and I swear, she could pass for early 20s if she wanted to. This is why I refuse to look at forums because they give people my age bad names.

I've watched this show a bit, so I can't say too much. But, all I can really think is she doesn't look 40. Yes, the hair is unflattering and some of her outfits do her no favors, but she's supposed be be a 35-year-old Ajumma. Korean dramas like to present married/divorced women, over the age of twenty-five, as having bad hair and fashion sense.


I'm not a huge fan of Chae Rim, but I can see that if she'd get some new style, she'd look good. Isn't she thirty-one in Western years; or thirty-two in Korean years? Because she looks about late twenties/early thirties. She's a pretty woman.


CR and Siwon are eight years apart and their characters are about the same. It is a difference, but really - who cares? Personally, I cannot see what their characters would have in common and talk about, but that doesn't mean he can't find her attractive.


As of right now, I can't see the relationship turning truly romantic and lasting, just because Min Woo can be really immature, is young and a bit spoiled/selfish, etc. I can't see Gae Hwa wanting to play mother to her boyfriend, etc. But. . .that doesn't mean they can't get romantic during the series.

The fact that the characters are 35 and 28 has nothing to do with it. If they find each other attractive, they find each other attractive. To me, it's just a question of if the romance could last due to their different personalities, maturity levels, life experiences, etc. Lets be honest - there are some immature thirty-five years old in the world and some naive forty year olds too; while there are some very mature and experienced twenty-five year olds.
