You know, I realized something looking at the caps - Chun Jung Myung, like Lee Min Ho, is not photogenic at all. I can totally get why someone looking at these pics without seeing the drama would go 'the fuss is about him?' But when you see him in action, he is completely magnetic.

I loved the studying scene as well - the way she grits her teeth and asks politely for him to repeat the section while still managing to cling to her stubborn, determined pride...ah, so wonderful.

And Seo Woo's character coming in and expecting immediate attention and, for the first time, not getting it? This scene is a little bit pivotal, it really is a taste of what's to come.

I agree with you on CJM not being photogenic. I'd never seen him before CU and I kept thinking, "Ugh, he's going to be so plain, I can't wait for Taec to appear" and now I don't even care about Taec (except as an extra cog in the angst machine) because CJM is all understated brilliance and amazing smiles. WANT.

I loved his little half-swallowed smile at her gritted-teeth politeness (and the way he doesn't push her, again, to be polite but just sits there waiting so she does it 'on her own') - so very awesome.

I can't wait for (more) angst to hit. alexandral posted one spoiler that made me vibrate with glee.

I've seen (and loved) CJM in Fashion 70s, one of my favorites and an all-around really good drama and that was the only time except for BOF where I seriously uncanon-shipped - I wanted him and heroine together so badly it hurt (F70s is a drama with 4 main characters, not 2 primaries and 2 secondaries but he wasn't part of the OTP). And unlike with BOF, it wasn't because I disliked the guy the guy the heroine ended up with - I actually adored him to bits, it's just CJM basically stole the whole drama. But yes, before, when I saw pics of him I was "ugh, so not cute at all, why is he a star?" heh.

I'm just in love with the way he's handling her - he can read the signs, he doesn't push too much but he knows when to be firm, and when it happens I know I'm going to believe her opening up to him and daring to trust him. I wondered how it was going to work, this cynical heroine and gentle-spirit main guy, but then we got that peek into his past and I like him even more now that I know he's lived through some hard things and understands her because he can relate.

(I saw that spoiler! I CAN'T WAIT.)

I don't think Fashion 70s is my kind of thing, but I've since gone and downloaded all of What's Up Fox? because I want to look at CJM some more. I'm trying to think if there have been any dramas where I was completely against canon and I can't remember any. I think dramas are generally very good with that sort of thing, because they're so heavily focussed on relationships they work the same way romance novels do, by presenting us with heroes and heroines who we feel complement each other. I read a lot of (primarily historical) romances, and I never get to a point in the book where I think, "Man, I wish she'd end up with her good-natured best friend" because the hero always has that edge over the side character.

I could watch the meeting scene in CU all day, her snarl! His smile. Ahhh three more days!

I love that too. I love that 'nice guy' doesn't mean pushover - just someone who can relate to her issues and has overcome his own to be a good person.

what's interesting to me about CU is not just the OMG HER MOTHER LIKES ANOTHER GIRL BETTER but how the positive male attention she's receiving from the step father and CJM's character is reversing the dynamic she's been so used to. She needs to be free of her mother, so I can't say I feel the whole thing is going to be so terrible for her in the end, but I am sure there will be plenty of angst to go round.

The thing is, for a while at least, her mother IS going to come first for her because, good or bad, she's been with her forever and stepfather and KH are newcomers and she may be suspicious of how they will behave in the long-term.

Ditching her mother (emotionally at least) would be the best thing for her - the woman is toxic - but the kind of person she'd have to become in order to be able to do so - that would not be good.

This is what I want also, but EJ is already so damaged that I think if she really did this, she'd be even worse off.

I can't help but think she runs away. I really really wish I had a more concrete idea of how the time jump happens. Right now I know little to nothing about the drama. I know the father will most likely die and the stepmother will turn evil and Taec will come in and Hyo Sun will get jealous. . .but that's not really a lot. I need to know more!!!!

MGY just nailed that scene *heart pang*. When she paused before completing that statement (and not just because she changed "na" to "ja"), and how she got glassy-eyed and obviously did not want to talk about it.

After watching the episodes several times now (I know, I know), I've managed to take different perspectives. Some of them, I don't necessarily believe in, but they seem to make sense.
Like, at times, it felt like he was only being flirty, because he's piqued by her demeanor. Well, "flirty" might not be the right word, but he is trying his best to figure her out. Yet, in a way, even though KH knew she had issues, he may have had underestimated the circumstances. This scene drove home the desperation EJ really feels. So I agree with the comment above, how this scene is pivotal in their relationship -- KH going from being interested to being invested in her (and her welfare).

I don't know about flirty but he was bemused/interested by her - she is so different from the rest of the household. But I think he could recognize the desperation in her and related to her even before that incident - like when he told her when she can run away, turning 20.

He had a good idea of her problems, but I don't think he realized that instability was this omnipresent fear for her, and that studying is her only form of escapism. That said, I am glad he pushes her buttons and tries to draw her out bit by bit. It's not like he can expect her to speak to him, much less, approach him willingly about anything (other than her studies).

Yes, Chun Jung Myung is more of a charismatic actor than just plain pretty. He is also r.r. good at acting 9same as Lee Min Ho) and this usually helps.

Fashion 70s : The scene with the hero in the bath is hot. I hope it is a long one. :D

I like CMJ in cinderella sister and he is versatile -Fashion 70's,Hansel and Gretel, CS...- different characters, different vibes, natural acting. But please am I the only who thinks LMH is not a really good actor ? His acting in BOF was too cheesy especially in the crying scenes and in PT -an ok drama- he has the same expressions he had in BOF and he is not believable as a character older than SYJ's one. Sorry but I think putting CMJ and LMH in the same sentence concerning their acting is an insult for the former.

I wasn't comparing their acting, however - just that they are charismatic when they move and horrid in stills. I think LMH has plenty of charisma. I don't think he's as good as CJM but he is a newbie who's close to a decade younger than CJM so who knows how he will turn out.

I also loved the studying scene but mostly for Seo Woo's face. KH and EJ are already getting closer and EJ is already starting to become someone that takes KH's attention. I liked the mixture of expressions that spread over SW's face, first confusion, then apprehension, then anxious and then a kind of reassuring (to herself) smile, like, "Noo, I'm not seeing chemistry, it's nothing to worry about". I have no idea how she's going to handle KH and EJ; so far she's so sweet and innocent that a lot of shit would have to go down for her to go batshit crazy over it.

CM is definitely better in motion. He has this one little smile that just kills me.
